Rode PodMic or Rode Procaster definitely solid mentions. 2 best bang for your bucks microphones. Highly respected and well reviewed. They go head to head with the SM7B and the Electro-Voice RE20.

Great video and great comparison. I’m considering changing up the microphone I’m using for my No More Sleepless podcast down the road. It really makes a huge difference how sensitive your plug in USB mics are.

I am surprised no one uses the Shure 55 mic. That is my favorite because it's an iconic design.

You just states your problem there. You choose your mic based on the design, not the sound quality lol.

Hi, thanks for this. For the Shure SM58 is it easy to connect to the Mac/ worth the effort over a USB mic? I know the two wires you need to convert from XLR to USB but what if it doesn’t work? I’m a podcast beginner but looking for quality too. I have a Mac laptop. Your advice is much appreciated thank you!!

PR 35 needs a pop filter, or at least talk into it off axis. I am using a Miktek Pm9 and have a pop stopper inside of it and an external pop filter.

All the dynamics seemed to have a higher noise floor with the exception of the SM7B (the Rogan mic). How often has Rogan interrupted the flow of his podcast by telling his guest to bring the mic up to their face? Most podcast guests aren't used to having their whiskers tickled by the mic in order to be heard. For this reason alone, I've always thought Rogan's mic choice was odd. At least now it makes sense... his studio must have a lot of background noise. Correct me if I'm wrong, but condenser mics are specifically meant for vocal & studio settings; whereas the older-school dynamic mics are more suited for live band (specifically LOUD booming sounds). Most people aren't gifted with heavy bass voices (like Rogan or yourself), so this should be taken into account when choosing between the two. Someone like me has to struggle to stay close enough, even on a condenser. Good/modern condenser mics have a cardioid design. This remedies the sensitivity outside of the direct line of the sound. Cardioid design won't cut out all background noise, but they do a reasonable job. Gold standard for broadcasting / vocal would be something like the Nueman u87 -- a condenser mic. These go for the price of a used car and even retain their value after they are used. There are few knock-offs of this mic design that are impressive. If someone is doing commercial voiceover work, they will want their demo material accomplished on a cardioid condenser. However, after watching this, I'm going to buy a dynamic too. I now see where a dynamic can save the day if confronted with excessive background noise. Glad to have found this channel. Its fun to nerd out!

What a careful, thoughtful comment. Thank you! By far, the main reason for most to use a dynamic mic is background noise. It can, however, be mitigated with a good Mic Pre-amp like a dbx 286s, which has compression and a number of noise-reducing features. Absolutely condenser mics allow for more freedom in front of the mic, but just like anything, technique matters.

I don't like the t's and plosives and breath noises on the AT at all, Studio or not. The t's are the worst of the plosives and breaths. Maybe a filter would help, or a preamp or de-esser or something...... Oh wait... you just said the AT is 100 bucks... that's why nevermind I retract my comment it's not expensive enough to sound better than that
@michelem77864 жыл бұрын
Plosives were 5 times as loud on the Heil PR35, no? Maybe because you have to be "right up" on the dynamic mics.

@@michelem7786 Something about the T's on the AT irked me i don't know they are just yucky... but I heard in the video he said it's a 100 dollar mic
