Video is completely opposite to my experience of buying the same bike last month while living here in Illinois. Illinois took the bill of sale and gave credit for tax paid, the MSO and bill of sale was processed and an Illinois form to show 0 tax liable due to tax paid. About 20 minutes later walked out with a plate, receipts and got a title in the mail about 6 weeks later. They never blinked an eye at the 'dirt bike' designation. I am very happy with the bike 4 months later and would recommend this model from Amazon very highly. Just beware it may have a 'chinese birthmark' somewhere - mine was on the end of the handlebar and a replacement set of grips was sent within a week or notifying the seller. A+

I bought a 2020 Bashan Storm in 2021, from a Powersports company's website. They didn't charge tax. The receipt was itemized. To license and title, I just had to pay the tax and fees. And just the purchase price, no tax on the shipping.

Bought my hawk from same place around same time as you, mine came with a title but didn’t plate or register it but still drive it everywhere off-road and on road with no plate ever since getting it with no issues fuzz gets behind me I just give them finger and throttle as I drop a gear and disappear off-road with my helmet keeping my identity secret like Batman as I ride off

I own the carbed hawk 250 and live in Tennessee where registering is super easy. I had no problems putting it together or registering it, and it was at my house in two weeks of placing the order. Been modding and riding it almost daily and I think it’s amazing.

The whole DMV tax thing seems a bit odd to me, I mean why would it be up to you to determine if Amazon gave the tax to the state?? I mean when you go to a convenience store do you have to figure out if "Pepsi" gave the state the tax you paid on your beverage? If they are worried about the tax then they need to do an audit of amazon and find out if they are receiving the appropriate taxes from them.

most all motor vehicle sales in a state have to be paid by a registered tax payer in that state to be valid. The problem arises in that Amazon is a third party they are only talking taxes on the sale as it was just a regular transaction. So in all honesty Colorado likely got the tax money probably didn't go to the right place but they got it. Over all in a situation like this there is always "red tape" and bs fees so may as well just consider that part of the discount buying experiance.

I live in Colorado and registered my hawk with no problems. Had to do a vin verification $30, got insurance $150 a year went to DMV paid the tax a registration fee $150 and got license plate that day. Could be different for other county's in Colorado but I thought it was easy. All together it was $1830 from getting the bike to getting it on the road.

The CSC TT250 is the same bike and it’s from a company in California that gives you legit paperwork headache free

TT250 is the same as the Hawk 250. Which are Carb bikes. They are dealing with a Hawk 250 DLX which is EFI and have a bunch of different parts.

@@raynetorrinThe CSC TT 250 is better in some ways. CSC pre-installs/configures all parts before shipping. The TT250 also has a counter-balancer, which lowers vibrations and also makes acceleration a tad slower. So when you receive the TT250, at least all the parts are put on tight. Then, it's up to the owner to fully maintain.

My state requires that the MCO be notarized by the dealer/seller or they will not process the paperwork for registration. I just wish online dealers would state somewhere on their website if they will notarize the MCO. but no one does. Surely my state cannot be the only one with this requirement.

I paid $2,200 with TTL included from a reseller here in Texas and I now feel that was worth every penny vs ordering it and building it myself. It's my first bike, it had 0 miles on it, the shop assembled it for me and other than a couple of loose bolts and an oil change I haven't had to do a thing to it in 150 miles so far. It's no speed demon but it gets the job done for commuting to work and riding around for fun.

If you live in a big city area you can just go to a powersports place and buy one assembled or in the crate, and they take care of the title and registration. I did this and didn't have any issues at all.

Not a china bike advocate but I've had this bike since 2020 and I've put 6500 miles on it. Almost all were on the muddy narrow trails of Western Montana. The bike needs occasional work but honestly it hasn't had any major issues and parts are easy to find. I do not take it easy on this bike and it always comes home completely covered in mud. I feel like it does pretty well. I have the hawk dlx fuel injected model. Registering and insuring it was easy

Sorry for the late reply. However, buyer beware is not a problem. It was as easy as any other bike for me to show tax & get title/tags/insurance in California - for a TT 250 simular to the Hawk . The bike is also as reliable as I make it while I ride within its limits. To be fair CSC (california scooter company) simplified the process of getting tax/title/tags.

i had a 125cc hawk all lights included,georgia would not give me a tag and they dont title dirt bikes, south dakota issues tags and titles to out of state residents,i bought mine thru powersportsmax and had them to send me another mco with enduro on the mco to show it was street legal,fist one it said dirt bike.i also had insurance thru geico,but south dakota does not require insurance prior to a tag and title.

I bought a truck out of state new recently (saved a TON of money) and it was equally a PITA. I already had a hard copy of the OH title in hand all other paperwork and the joke of CO DMV made me get my BRAND NEW TRUCK (F150) WEIGHED FFS. The $12 dollars it cost wasn't as big of a deal as having to make another appt (3 weeks out was the soonest) and having to buy a freakin CO temp tag to cover the time period due to THEIR ridiculous requirement. While the folks working at the CO DMV branches I have been to have very pleasant the regulations and outrageous taxes for registrations are almost comical.

hey guys , most old timers could have told you there were going to be problems with the paper work and the state [i live in co] . and that cr500 , yeah good luck getting a 2 stroke road legal in co. in some states it would be easy , not here. and , your headlight wasn't on which i believe is state law in co, day or night. thanks for going thru the pain to educate.

Nice video and breakdown on that bike. Let me get someone thoughts on this. I've never ridden a dirt bike before. I'm used to Harleys and sport bikes. I'm currently in China and wondering about electric dirt bikes or a traditional gas dirt bike. I should find some really good deals here. However, if I get a dual purpose bike I need to get the Chinese motorcycle license. I can also get a carrier , hitch it to the back of my vehicle off road with my vehicle and then do some off roading with the bike. Should I be looking more into the electric dirt bikes or the gas powered dirt bikes?

Well this is why you should try to find a local dealer for these kind of things. Oer usual Amazon sells things without woorying about any regulations that might need to happen with said sail. You might pay more locally nut it sure as hell will save you allot of headaches. Note budy of mine bought on of these through a dedicated motorcycle website instead of amazon and had none of these issues. He even imported the bloody thing so all it needed to do was pass a safety check with the license issuer.

You got hosed by CO on the tax. No retailer pays tax in a manner that provides proof of which transactions are covered. Thus, the state was asking for records they know do not exist.

State of Colorado has never helped much on titles either. They currently have dealerships putting a title on every motorcycle that runs through the shop. That includes dirt bikes and ATV’s! You can not register either one in the state. Just a way to collect more tax base. I can’t even begin to tell you some of the crazy title stories in this state. Great info for ALL! Thx guys.

Got my title as soon as I verfied the vin on my hawk and I live in Colorado. Just saying don't buy from Amazon, buy from a dealer. Bought my hawk from killer Motorsports in Texas and they send it with a certificate of origin. Then I went out and verfied the vin, went to DMV was there for like 20min and left with title and registration. Of course you are going to pay a tax on it. Colorado is going to get there's before you have fun.

@@motojohnnymoe4799 Yea, and they don't know, or don't mention, that depending on the state of purchase and the state of registration that there may be legit taxes owed in both states. It is really stuff you have to research ahead of time with an online or out of state transaction. Various states taking their share, and making it into a paperwork shuffle isn't really new news. In TFLbike's case one DMV employee likely made it harder than it really needed to be. The "printed name of seller" and "signature" was a perfect example. Why was the printed name of the legal business entity not enough with a proper authorized signature? Technically PowersportsMax did print their name, but obviously they can't legally sign "PowersportsMAX" so the sales employee signed. Perfectly reasonable until the DMV says "no registration for you!".

I live in Dallas texas....there are ton of good Yamahas and Honda motorcycles on Facebook Marketplace ....used but in excellent condition. $1800 to $3000. Already titled and running good. I don't think these motorcycles are worth the money when you consider all the issues that are involved

Great tips. TFLbike is a great addition. I would never buy a bike online w/out doing review reading. And I would not want to deal with the tax and license issues you went through. I have done used bike buys. Which is fine if you don't mind turning wrenches and replacing parts. I have done NEW buys from dealerships. And while it feels expensive(and it can be)I think you buy peace of mind with the price. And for those not willing to turn wrenches up front anymore, it is the best gamble. This Hawk has a nice graphic look to it. But outside of that, it is def. not something I would personally buy or suggest to anyone other than the brand new riders. Most seasoned riders will want something with more oomph and agility.

I'm in Washington state bought the 150CC X pro storm pay for work went through like a breeze no problems piece of cake Amazon bikes well worth the money I'm 235 pounds and it puts my fat **** around with no problems I've been having a blast X pro USA has the best deals bike ship handle right to your door mine ran me $1500 for an on off road 150CC like I said no problem titling it piece of cake in Washington state hope this helps you folks out there good to go have a nice day I'm heading to the hills

I get the impression these guys did zero research before the bought this bike. There is a ton of information out on these bikes over the last few years. Going through Amazon adds nothing to the purchase. I purchased a Chinese bike, from Peace Sports out of Georgia. They didn't charge tax, so you pay the tax to your local DMV. I was able to title and plate the bike in Michigan with zero issues.

A small dual sport is an ideal bike to learn to ride on. Get a used Japanese 4 stroke. Better in every way, and they hold their value. If you need to fix them, there are lots of cheap parts. This thing won't be running at all in a few years.
