Tires, brakes and suspension seems like a proper start to me. I wouldn't have started with NOS and a cage tbh

All the skepticism about FWD...tell that to BTCC/WTCC. FWD does extremely well when properly set up. Alfa did a great job with the chassis despite it being FWD, with a LSD, swaybars and good rubber you are set.

ChaosphereIX Only if no manufacture enters a rwd car. IE BMW, in every championship i can remember, the organisers have to handicap them with ballast. Exeption being the IS200'S in the btcc when every one had to run on the same tyres. It took the Toyotas too long to get their tyres up to temp compared to the fwd competition, which at the time was everbody else.
@ChaosphereIX
@ChaosphereIX 4 жыл бұрын
@@gothicpagan.666 Ballast only is applied in some cases. I have seen races where a FWD championship car with max ballast still out drove a much lighter RWD car. That it could do that should not be possible if RWD was so superior, as the drivers were both talented. Regardless, both can be fast, both can be fun, you just drive them different. I have both a fwd and a rwd sport sedan, and in many ways I prefer the fwd in the twisties.

If the brakes are rubbish I don’t think you have the later version brembo’s installed. The 330mm GTA brakes are also fitted from the factory on the later GTVs and they do brake supurb. And high quality pads do make the difference. Go for CL brake pads and you will be amazed. Back in the day the gtv was one of the stiffest cars you could buy. To today’s standards perhaps not, but i’ve driven the gtv 3.0 on track I can tell you, with a proper suspension, it is unbeatable. No understeer at all... all depends on the state of the suspenion and the setup. Springs, adjustable dampers and 25mm front and back swaybars (with the old attachment points up front) will help extremely. Nice project, I will follow!

What IS this? For the average person the cheapest and easiest thing to do to improve handling (other than removing all unnecessary parts) would be to fit a better set of tyres. Most people dont have pipe benders and welding equipment at home. Having a cage made and fitted by someone else would be pretty expensive. This just doesn't make any sense to me. At all.

dick von duisberg - Thanks for adding info. 150 quid doesn't sound quite right to me. Even for a half cage. Surely that must be for the price of the tubes alone, right? Please excuse my confusion but I'm a little baffled by this video. Are they assuming that the people on a budget this video is aimed at already have a garage with welders, tools and a pipe bender?

Are you going to put a proper differential in it? A quaife or similar, it would be an awesome improvement for the car. You will be able to put down all the power and have a better handling.

Lightening your car is the best thing you can do to any car. Better then any power modifications. It's pretty hard to do in a modern car these days. One of the best ways to make the best track car or just a great driving car is to buy an old classic car that's light weight and then replace the engine and gearbox with a modern light weight engine. You can change the suspension parts as well if you feel it's necessary. You can easily have a car with sub 1000KG's and more power then you could wish for.
@furiousgeorge6594
@furiousgeorge6594 6 жыл бұрын
Add a free 20 HP...... NO! Your explanation was fine, make the car lighter, make the power to weight ratio better but you said add a free 20hp twice! Which it doesn't do. If it makes the power to weight ratio better then leave it at that. Don't throw in bullshit statements that are wrong either side of it. Stop talking down to your audience.

I hate this series. Look at the title. What's the cheapest way to improve handling? Because it ain't fitting a roll cage and overhauling the calipers. Even children in deepest darkest Africa who have never even seen a car before know that tires are the cheapest way to improve your handling. Then suspension, either coil overs or lowered springs if you are on a real tight budget. Also if you are tracking this thing it would pay to upgrade the brake fluid. High temp brake fluid is going to be a much better investment than upgrading your brake hoses come race day. The worst thing is that this series is called how to build a race car. Adding nitrous to a stock daily driver is not how you do it. Your engine is going to be shot well before you get enough wheel time to win any races. I can't wait for next week....is it gonna be a massive wing on the back that serves no function apart from causing more drag? Probably knowing this series...

My word, George, you are furious, aren't you! Tyres were already done (Michelin Sport Pilots) - not shown here but mentioned in a later episode. Aero work comes in episode 5. Car isn't a daily driver. Brake fluid suggestion is a good one. PWR maths was a bit 'fag packet', but we're Brits, and that's how we do it. Cheers.

Thanks for replying. I've been hating on this series in the comments on a few of the videos and you always take the time to respond :D To be fair the series is still up to the standards of the rest of the channels videos in terms of camera work and sound. Nothing against the team (or yourself for that matter). Yes it's easy to criticize from my desk, and no I don't agree with the way you are building the car but it's your car so you can do what you want with it. That said I will keep posting comments on future videos about how you are doing things the 'wrong' way because anyone with an interest in building cars should know there are better ways of building a budget racer than this. Either way keep on doing your thing and I'll keep providing you with views that equate to ad revenue :D

I really don't understand why people talk soo bad about alfa, even alfa fans. Do people already drove a BMW série 3 from the 90's they have rattling noises everywhere the série 3 today are in much worse shape than the 159 the plastics brock soo easily teh rubberized plastics are all gummy and because BMW used it everywhere that's not help, end in more used ones there's rattling too more than the only 159 I been able to be in. And they rust too. Audi and vw gasoline engines crack by bad design a problem no alfa engine have or had.
