Although he have made a pretty valid point, he just didn’t elaborate on that. Basically, there’s few black anime characters, what makes artists that learn to draw in anime style not learn how to draw a black character or just colour a different skin tone because it’s less effort and the industry itself has become racist due to Asian beauty standards (that are impossible even for asian to fulfill). This strict pattern: pale skin, big and lighter eyes, double eyelid, end up appearing in all pieces of Asian media, specially Korean and Japanese media. Okay, but how is this racist? If u still ask yourself this question I recomment seeing the comercials of beauty products from Korea and China. In one of them there’s a black baby that is put in a washing machine and turn white, so… yeah, there’s no way to deny. The artists might not even be racist but the industry itself is rotten to it’s core.

Moral of the story: gatekeeping exists for a reason, sometimes for reasons we may not fully understand at a glance. When you are walking by a road and see an old fence separating you from the field, you may ask, "What's the point of that fence?" But what a person should ask is, "Why was this fence put up?" Communities establish traditions and taboos for a very good reason; those fences, both physical and metaphorical, are up for a damn good reason. Modern society nowadays is full of myopic, impatient, immature people who are all about pulling up fences with no regard for why they were erected in the first place. I admire your idealism, Rima. If I had any inkling that this miscreant was arguing in good faith, I would be behind the notion of inviting him on for a discussion. But I see no good faith here, so I must advise against it. He has also been caught mistreating if not outright scamming an artist he hired. He also has a history of erasing comments he has made when he gets caught saying messed up things or lying.

2:29:23 from what was said, he was supposed to do a monthly payement of 500 $ for a total of 6000 by december the next year, which would equal to the total ammount over a year if he did pay each month starting december 2023. the problem was he did 3 payments including the one from december. which means he was already 2 months behind payement shedule both parties agreed upon. ( month of mai means he should have had a payement for december, januari, februari, march and april completed) aka 5 receipts, but he only has 3 payments done. he then went on a blocking spree to avoid getting reminded he had to pay. which seems really scummy.

One of the reasons artists don't do Africans is do to the head hunting of artists doing "white washing" on a fictional characters, even voice artist get this hate too. Remember the African voice actor in my hero academia got harassed for not sounding African enough.

It's also a niche style that an artist would need to specialize in and practice to do well. It's not like you can just give a typical anime vtuber design dark skin and it will fit what Shizzy is wanting. The simple fact of the matter is that vtubing has and continues to be driven by a very anime inspired culture and corresponding artstyle. You need to practice a style to get good at it and the people who do great African or African American inspired art styles aren't the same people who do vtubing model work.

That's because Shizzy doesn't have the guts to be fair and call out the purity testers in his space. They will give him a fight louder than what he got. A bunch of his points have been raised by the SJW tumblr community more than a decade ago and it's led to where the art community is at today, most especially its worst aspects. People like the SJWs and Shizzy only want to criticize the people operating outside their market but don't care to facilitate ways to help homegrown talent to grow (the non-payment for his model was the coup de grace). Plus, there's a lot of purity testing in the arts relating to PoCs, starting with all the accusations of colorism. Thus, even if someone wanted to fund journeyman artists still finding their own style, it's highly discouraging when you know some douchebag elitist is just going to pounce with a laundry list of complaints simply because the art didn't suit THEIR needs. And that funding problem is what discourages talented people born from a lower socio-economic background to stop honing skills and move to a job market that will give them money.

I think Shizzy is a coloniser more than a tourist. Some people we call tourists are acutely aware of the culture, do not care for it, and will weponise anything to terraform a cultural medium to suit their taste. A tourist will just spout BS and leave, a coloniser doesn't care and just expect or force change.

idk if this gets addressed further, but i had to stop for a second and talk about it since i didn't see it in the comments. for an artists, yes, i can see how some would try to steer clear of problematic complications when it comes to rendering skin color, but more importantly and this does not gets spoken too often: when it comes to design, darker colors are much harder to balance, this is the fundamental reason why we have so many anime characters with vibrant hair colors despite black hair being the most common in Japan. I do not say it's impossible, but it is definitely a skillset learned and practiced. this points are never taken into consideration when the topics of media representation in the arts are spoken about and should be brought to attention more often. when it comes to art, its never just about "the right color" and more about hue and values balance. I personally would not like to deliver a commission on a work that is just following the buyer's demands without artistic consideration, and the idea of "i might as well not even try if i know i cant deliver" perspective might originate from that more often than segregating reasons. add onto that the volatile criticism and backlash and it easily become a route you wouldn't thread lightly unprepared, specially larger mediums that often get critiqued for taking the safest design routes.

As an artist, I wouldn't post any artwork of black characters because the pantone police might flag me and say that the skin isn't dark enough, even though it could be due to things like lighting and exposure, not because of white washing. And it's very difficult to explain to the pantone police about any of these art fundamentals because it will sound like an excuse, even though it is a valid reason.

The unfortunate part with the argument of "being better then cancel culture" is that is generally being seen more an more as ineffective on the other side of the spectrum of the usual instigators.
