The premium economy experience varies DRASTICALLY across airlines and even across different models within the same airline. I've seen some premium economy basically being just the front part of economy with marginally more leg room. Other times it's like business class minus the privacy partitions. It really depends on what plane you are getting on.
@Mojo295 ай бұрын
I take a different opinion. In my experience it’s very rarely worth it. It costs substantially more and you still cannot get a proper sleep. I either go economy or Business, very rarely feel the need for an in between.
@saldol98625 ай бұрын
It only matters for me for long haul flights or if it’s a very small rise in price. 10 hours? Go for it. 10% more ticket price? I’ll consider it.
@eh-2695 ай бұрын
It also largely depends on if u have a loyalty program with said airline. As earning miles with them can help a lot more in making each plane ticket extremely cheap. As i remember, my mom flies a lot more than me, who already flies a lot, but she buys her tickets out like a whole year ahead or so. I remember one time she paid around 240 for a ticket and then upgraded with 50k miles to business while I upgraded to pre-Econ for 10k, if I’m using miles I would budget it a lot more and see if my next flights can be on pre-Econ or another business. So it just depends on if I am looking to use miles, or not otherwise I just buy business when I’m out of miles, which is quite rare. So it all comes down to loyalty program.

@moladiver68175 ай бұрын
Emirates premium feels like a scam to me. The seats recline so far they literally trap the person behind in their seat. Yes the seats are wide but normal economy seats on an A380 are more than wide enough and also have plenty of leg room. And I'm quite tall (1.86 or 6-2 for Americans). I've almost reached silver status. This will give me free seat choice at booking, priority check-in and boarding as well as lounge access. Combined with normal economy pricing this'll give me the most bang for buck by far. I always have a center aisle seat. Flying Emirates this way is the best experience and it costs me less than a thousand bucks to fly halfway around the planet and back. 😎 IMO the only real upgrade to economy is business. One day...

Economy used to be known as coach, which was reasonably comfortable--and you got fed. Coach no longer exists. Nowadays, economy is deliberately designed to be uncomfortable in that it's like a flying cattle car, and you don't get fed--unless you pay. Economy is the new steerage (third class); premium economy is actually best regarded as second class, then there's business or first class. Flying is usually a disgusting experience for the majority of travellers.

We experienced it on different Airlines. Usually, we simply do not have the money to buy Business class tickets all the time (I am honest) and long haul flights from Europe to North America, Asia or Australia can be painful. We are older, want to enjoy retirement, but do not feel responsible for the financial wellbeing of any airline. For us, PEC - depending on the airline and the destination - is always something to look into. And if the price is right... we fly PEC.

My last flight I tried Air Canada economy from London to Toronto and Premium on the way back. It's definitely much better than an economy exit row seat in every way except for access and sheer leg room, but I valued the extra recline more (was easier to sleep). It's not as good as business, but it's better value for money and you can easily pay a little extra for lounge access. All you're really missing is the fully flat bed and the extra frills. I would do it again.

For the price of Premium you can book and extra night (or two) at your destination and stay for longer, or spend the money on something else like a MUCH nicer meal at a proper sit down restaurant. Most companies won't spring for first class for business travelers, so most domestic carriers have rebranded. First class didn't go anywhere. It's just called business class now. I would also argue that premium economy used to be worth it when it was like a $200 difference on long haul flights. Now it's frequently 50% more to even double what regular economy costs, which is absurd because you don't get 50% more space, or 50% better service.
