PIP it is maximum pressure inflate the lung during inspiration, plateau pressure it is pressure inside the alveoli with no flow after stopping inspiration, if differences between PIP and plateau pressure more than 5 mmgh indicates increase resistance causes ( 3a secretion, small ETT, bronchospasm, mucous plugs) if differences less than 5 mmgh normal, give clue about statistic compliance changes volume/ pip- plateau pressure, resistance pressure ( pressure needed to splint airway or overcome both airway and distended lung, elastic pressure ( pressure needed to distended lung and chest wall) high plateau pressure more than 30 mmgh ( cause pleural effusion, pneumothorax parenchymal disease ( pneumonia, pulmonary oedema, atelectasis, ARDS)
