Gotta love those "Berz in Bag" reviews. That is quite a collection, Capn. The first bag looks very appealing. Cheers, Mate.

Yea, ZenBivy is the way to go for most of the year in terms of at home in the wild feel. But winter (below freezing or 25 degrees) I switch to something different.

What is the most best comfortable sleeping bag? The most best comfortable sleeping bag is clearly the ones that feel great on the body, around your head and feet, and along withnot constrictive. While the ZenBivy Light Bed runs away with that at home feel since it is a modular setup of quilt and bottom pad connector that has a hood, it is not for deep winter. So most of the year, the ZenBivy Light Bed is the way to go. But the Stone Glacier Chilkoot, Feathered Friends Redesigned Ibis, Valandre Bloody Mary and Shocking Blue, Nemo Sonic and Therm-A-Rest Parsec all are fabulously comfotable options! The rest are okay or really bad. With Outdoor Vitals Summit, Kelty Cosmic Ultra and Sierra Designs Cloud rounding out the bottom of the list as the worst. While I do not have every bag, I have enough to give a good comparison on different manufactures, as they all have their highs and lows. Good luck on your search for the perfect bag! Looking for a warm bag for AT thru hike starting end of February. Have owned a sierra designs zissou plus 700 fill down 27* comfort rated bag for years and love it. Would you consider the Sierra designs mobile mummy 15* to be a good choice to fill the gap in temperatures?
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
I have no experience with the Zissou, but the fill weight is slightly more on the Zissou. Granted it is 100 more fill power on the Mobile Mummy. But given it is February/March, I think I would push you to the Parsec 0, which is literally the same weight as the Mobile Mummy (2lb 6oz), but I have had it down to 7 degrees and felt fine. Mobile Mummy 15 has down fill weight of 18oz, the Parsec 0 is 26oz. Both use 800 fill power down. If I had the spend the money, I would go with the Parsec 0 as I do not think you will see a dramatic difference between the Zissou and Mobile Mummy for the additional weight.

Be interested to know what you think of Wiggy’s.

I’ve heard they’re great.

@@CaptainBerz I’ve been messing with sleeping bags since the early 80’s with the cub scouts. I’ve never had a bag check all the boxes like Wiggy’s. The only thing they aren’t is lightweight. But the extra ounces are worth it. They are quite popular up here in AK.
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
Yup, that’s exactly what I’ve heard! They’re consistent.

Stone glacier or thermarest parsec? Which one would you choose?
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
Probably the Stone Glacier, due to being able to wear more layers inside to extend the rating. But it is close. Both are exceptionally well thought out. Parsec is just slightly more snug. The Stone Glacier puffs up a lot and really seems like it has better down. But, it takes up a little more room than the Parsec. Depends on what is important to you, but either way I do not see as a bad choice.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6Wbg2Bte9uGibc I have the 20 and 0. In terms of functionality, they are the same. Just different ratings. I really pushed the Chilkoot 15 down to 20 degrees and it performed well. But I do not recommend using any bag only 5 degrees above it rating, usually 10 above is more confortable.

How tall are you? I wonder if the Outdoor Vitals Long would have been more comfortable for you?
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
6’. But the head area is not comfy. Rope in face. Seems a little still in development, not fully refined, IMO.

With all the recent bear events....maybe you should test "which sleeping bag is chew proof"? 🤔 yeah I'm wrong for asking but we're all thinking It 🤷♂️
@CaptainBerz Жыл бұрын
I'd ask what led to a bear coming to camp. It ain't the sleeping bags fault! Haha.
