As a waitress, the only time I ever sit with a table is when I've been specifically asked to do so. Some people are lonely, others want to check on you. For clarity I also live and work in a small town where most people know each other

I was a server for many years and I always cringed when I would see a coworker sit at a guest’s table to take their order. However, I also had plenty of nights where my feet and back hurt so bad I was tempted to sit, too, but the most I ever did was squat.

100% of the restaurants I go to, I appreciate a waitress who is friendly. Take a moment to talk. Unless they're really busy. Had 1% of the restaurants that shall be nameless I appreciate a waitress who will sit down and visit

"It's like when they ask, 'Is everything ok?' and everyone just lies." - Coming from someone who has worked almost exclusively in the food industry, this is a hot take 🤣 i wish people would lie more, save me the hassle of getting bitched at constantly

As someone who served table for 11 years, I would sit down with tables I felt comfortable with. We are encouraged to build a connection. I worked at the same place for those 11 years, I still have friendships with many of my guests. I haven’t worked there in 5 years. I would sit down with maybe 5% of the tables I served.

My dad would always answer the "is there anything else I can get you today?" with..."a wheelbarrow to wheel me outta here" 😅

I definitely sat down at my tables when I was a server, but only with my regulars.

As a server. I don’t really sit down at my tables. The only time I do is with regulars that I’ve been serving for a while

As a young dad I always hit the server/cashier with a ‘UNACCEPTABLE’ when they give me my total 😅

I'd sit at a guests table if I knew them like a friend or a regular that I have a connection with.

My group of friends and I are usually overly nice but we always leave a good tip. Especially if the person is really awesome. Our one waiter was having a really bad day because another table was being awful to them so once we got the bill we gave them a $120 tip on a $60 bill...

My grandma enjoyed when waiters would sit with us at Applebee's, and waiters loved sitting with us because they knew they would get a big tip of they did

I used to serve at a Roadhouse steakhouse many years ago and the management asked us to “table sit”. I hated it. I only did it if I got yelled at.
