Really weird is you can run a certain set of programs twice (starting from boot and pressing keys exactly the same order) and look at the processes and they are different!

65% Memory usage running only Edge and Task Manager is Wild.
@iceManSwag8 сағат бұрын
I deleted Edge but left WebView. I found a utility on GitHub . Also removed Defender & all the bloat. Windows 11 24H2 Pro running smooth with all the appearance set for snappy feel I hate fading, sliding effect because it just slows down my fast PC. Since Windows 95 I started to optimize my systems. I knew little I was a child but I never stopped. I remember when XP came out I always set the theme to classic Windows the themes looked nice but I opted for maximum performance. Also my wallpapers are just solid black because the picture took the video card memory. Nowadays I have big monitors I prefer the dark theme & everything is blacked out except those old parts of Windows that are white.

I think he's using a virtual machine, and edge is only using half a Gb of memory So the system probably has around 4 gb of total ram

Exactly 💯 just what the hell kind of hidden processes windows running in the background that's taking so much disk usage. Lightweight user friendly privacy 🔏 focused browser is what users want. No nonsense BS hidden processes taking users private data hell they even might be using keystrokes for god sakes to collect data in the name of Cookies garbage. I would certainly stay the hell away from such so called windows one and only browser. So chrome , EDGE both out of option yes chrome is slow as hell. Brave ( not the absolute best) but does hell of a lot better job than those 2 . Opens fast , no lagging drama , no nonsense ads , and uses significantly less RAM , and more ( not fully ) privacy focused as well.

@@codingandtech5909no the user doesnt care about lightweight and even less privacy.

For process explorer, I believe it shows you only processes related to your login. I believe that you must right-click it and run it with admin privileges, in order to have it display all processes. A lot of the conga line of processes is bloatware -- direct from Microsoft. Run "Tiny 10" or "Tiny 11" or "Spectre 10" or "Spectre 11" (custom made Windows packages that includes only what is necessary for Windows to function properly), and you will probably see less than half the number of processes running (assuming you did not install stuff and start up a bunch of stuff). Note that the above offerings are "Run at your own risk", because they are not from Microsoft. Third party developers stripped away the bloat from the Windows installation package. So you are trusting that they 1) did not screw up, and 2) that they did not add in anything untoward. The point of this is to lend credence to the fact that the official Windows releases are loaded with bloatware, because the unofficial versions (noted above) are bloatware-free, and run with far, far less RAM usage. You can create a virtual machine that runs one of the above version of Windows, just to poke around. I never ran it. But in videos of others running it, Task Manager was using less than half the amount of RAM upon boot up. And the list of processes in Task Manager was not long (I do not recall how man processes were there, but it was less than half). And if some process that you need is missing, it can be added via a tool that the developer includes. But, again: Run at your own risk. Those packages could have malware. Use a virtual machine for testing it, or use an old, unimportant PC if you want to install it directly. Due to the absence of bloatware, your old Windows XP box with 2 GB of RAM that is collecting dust will have no problem running Tiny 10 or Spectre 10.

Don't use unofficial builds you can strip any Windows iso yourself using Nlite Using unofficial builds is a potential security risk. I myself after installing Windows debloat & remove spyware & disable unneeded services.

Thank you for this. While I have used task manager for many years, I’ve learned stuff I wish I’d known years ago!

Thanks for showing how to copy the processes to a text file using the command line. That's something new to me.

In XP, all the processes were contained in Internet Explorer so to speak, so if your tab crashed, you had to restart Windows...In Microsoft Edge they separated everything so if your tab crashes, you can just open up a new tab and continue browsing the web...Which eats up a lot of memory and CPU usage if the tabs are not "sleeping"...Like all improvements it has its pros and cons...But nowadays people are using Firefox or some other browser in XP...

One interesting thing is the various computer operating systems are very much alike in the way they do things. Whether it is Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, or one of the many distributions of Linux, there are many processes running in the background in each of these computer operating systems. I am using an Apple Mac computer. When I opened the Activity Monitor program it showed 574 processes running. I have also noticed a trend that has taken place over the years. The trend is that with new versions of computer operating systems, the number of processes keeps increasing. I can remember a time when Windows 98 had fewer than 100 processes.

Just start turning off all the processes you don't know what they are until your screen goes blank then restart knowing you broke everything and never do that again.

I recently found a keylogger on my computer. It was placed in the super anti spyware quarantine when I changed all my passwords. Did the quarantine really prevent any hackers from seeing my new passwords? How do I know for sure if it is gone?

The super old winxp computer with ssd run way faster than our modern computer with win10/11. And if you try a win10 on hd it is not useable. Win is getting worse and worse.

Now you're talking...I remember back in the day I downloaded the ERD disc which is now MS DaRT...That thing is awesome...If my XP ever becomes unbootable, I just fire up that disc and I can do a system restore, copy/paste files, registry, heck that program did everything...The best part was when some genius hacked it, so it never expired...

The thing is... I don't think his target audience is hardcore gamers... It's probably people who do ordinary things like watch KZbin all day or online banking and whatever. The people who would most easily slide into a Linux distro without any hassle at all and have a much better computer experience than they are having now trying to keep Windows from One Driving them into the nut house.

@@flipflopski2951 in that case nothing beats Linux. The thing that struck me about Linux when i first started using it is how completely unobtrusive Linux is. You never know its there. There is never a question about who is the boss or who's data it is. Linus doesn't send data to the mother-ship. Its quite boring. It just works. Spend a year learning it and you will never go back to anything else.

My goal this Saturday is to completely remove Windows from my old Windows 10 laptop and install a Linux distro. Do you have any distro suggestions for someone who is not into gaming? Thanks.
