When you portal hop sometimes, that area sometimes has a glitch over the island that says "sod_feature_treasure_village"....and with the speculation you just presented, I think it provides more solid evidence for your theory.

That sort of confuses me considering sanctuary has a tall tale on it, I don’t think the devs would stop tall tale progression for an in game event, the cool thing about golden sands is that it’s one of the two outposts that don’t have special tall tales on them (the other being galleons grave) idk they could end up doing that it just doesn’t make sense to me

Ok I know it's not what we're talking about but I just thought of it and I have to say it. Imagine a team vs team game mode using the entire map and loads of ships where each team would have to take over certain islands to win. Maybe some islands could do things. Maybe have only certain ship types or different ship types could do different things? Idk it just seems like sot has lots of potential for game modes like this, maybe seasonal events or something like that? I also think a sloop race would be fun, no cannons, no pvp, just race

But it begins to point out that Merrick's ship has perhaps been chosen for a specific reason. Maybe more lore about the megalodon will be revealed.

I think looking back at a certain teaser for season 4 on Sea of Thieves would help this theory as well. Remember that map that was posted on twitter that every section of the map seemingly divided into sections of influence for each faction (aside from the other hints that signaled to season 4). That map may well have been pointing ahead to future updates and we may indeed soon see Sea of Thieves with sectioned off areas for each faction (Makes me think we could start the game as a faction and reliably spawn at any outpost of a particular faction if that's the case). And Golden Sands outpost? On that map it's in the red (Reaper's) territory potentially further enforcing the theory that Golden Sands will soon be engaged in battle. With that in mind, the map indicates that the other factions may take certain actions themselves to insure their business's are safe.

I thought when he mentioned the hunters ship he was talking about Davy Jones’s ship due to the fact he was hunting us while helping Captain Jack during A Pirates Life. As for sister and the sands of gold I too was thinking golden sands and Wanda’s sister at golden sands. Watching the carol video, I kinda think of fortified outposts than can be attacked for great rewards and that would change hands when defeated. I'd say it's also the only aspect missing from SoT that's a standard in other pirate games like Sid Meier's Pirates, Sea Dogs etc.

Maybe the shark hunter set is a reference to the hunters call. Merrick summoned the megalodon 1 time already. Even tho he lost his legs he could still do it again. Also, the hunters call outposts are scattered across the whole sea of thieves

Since it isn't sailing the seas anymore but Is broken, the lock that was keeping the megalodon away is broken too. Flameheart kept those sea monsters maybe as a plan b but merrick accidentally released them too early

Midway through the carol, at 1:43, the bell of the ferryman could be heard. Maybe golden sands will be where Flameheart tries to bring the ferry of the damned to the sea of thieves and take control of it but the Athena’s fortune comes to combat and push Flameheart back. The other servant of flame lines point towards Flamehear pushing to take full control of the sea of thieves and this could be how he finally does it.

captain theres been strange changes to the shores of plenty and discovery,plunder,devils ridge,krakens falls and thieves haven in the shores of plenty especially the big islands have small camp supplies and chopped down trees especially smugglers bay and theres been some weird changes to golden sands and thieves haven has gotten abnormal noises and hollow sounds also the rest of the islands mentioned not in the sop have gotten small statues

i know this is very unlikely to happen but the way i want everything to happen is like this, after the update we get flame heart tall tales and in order to start them we have to defeat him normally but that doesn't start the tall tales, after defeating the head drops down to the island and transforms into a ghost body and when you talk to him he will tell you to go past in time and see his story and his son. now you know how his son alredy looks when you complete everything and come back to present you get a dramatic reveal that the repear master who we are selling everything to is actually son of flame heart.

Alright so what if this is the beginning of a reshifting of the map? My guess is the reapers will be claiming the golden sands area but only for the factions to rise up/retreat and create the greatest outpost yet at the recently under construction island...Thieves Haven? It would be more reminiscent of the pirate hub the books set out to build and be a callback to Ramsey and the boys first discovering it. I personally would love a huge pirate hub at TH.

after listening to the carol it sounds like they're hinting at more of a war over golden sands like there's something there that will bring the flame power, perhaps maybe the mask the was shown in the teaser stream? I mean it would make sense that there's something of importance on golden sands for them to fight over considering the carol talks about pushing the shores and and raiding the outpost, I feel like they are looking for something, what if maybe the mask can not only protect the user from the shroud but also bring the user back to life? so many questions and theories.

I think (and Hope) golden Sand will actually become the place of a new tall tale with this time the reapers as main subject. Maybe starting at wonda's store where wonda would be afraid of what golden sand's past may bring to it's future. And so asking to us to go check wanda's workshop where we could find clues to find wanda herself.then. We would find wanda talking to flameheart junior Somewhere in the map (under the reaper's hideout Trap could be nice) about a stratetgy to send the reapers instead of skellies to attack the outposts(maybe an occasion for a warsmith boss ).

The Cursed Captain said that he "sailed into the Sea of the Damned with a ship packed with plunder." Li'l Flame says the relic "traveled between worlds in a belly of gold." He also speaks of harnessing memories as weapons as you can hear the a sound clip of the Spanish soldiers from TT 3 defending their fort from Barbossa... who was after Jack and the trinket. Li'l Flame ends the teaser with, "...bring your forts of stone and bow to the blade of fire." In the 3 teaser Li'l Flame says the soulflames being lit will "weaken the veil." The Castaway intro for TT3 mentions the Cursed Captain's memories are shaping the Sea of the Dammed, but he doesn't realize it... yet. And all she could do was to "pull back the veil." And then she opens the portal. I think Golden Sands being shrouded isn't referring to the Red Sea, but another kind of shrouded place... of the realm of the dead. Li'l Flame said "finally we will break the seals and the Reapers Chests will open...." "....memories - into bone, will - into iron, souls - into life." Teaser 4: "...The curse is a gift. They will descend to claim it, then arise to a sea of bones..." Sea of bones - Army of Reaper chest skellies animated by the memories or the souls from the Sea of the Damned? "You will arise into a new pirate life."

Personally what I'd love to see, is something like a Live Event. It's a cringe example, but something like fortnite, where all the current running servers SUDDENLY got sucked into a black hole. Maybe that close before the update, all current server maps have the shroud creeping in closer and closer centered on Reaper's Hideout, and if your ship sinks during only that period, you get kicked (before maintenance) with error code; Reaperbeard.
