You brought up an interesting point: teachability. I haven't really been too involved in teaching or training raids outside of a few instances but there is some amount of responsibility on the trainee. You can have the best guide or best trainer in the world and still have people not engage and learn the way they should. As for the rez changes.. the strength of heal scourge is the aoe downstate pull and double aoe revive from well of blood, sure the downstate penalty reduction for the mastery makes it repeatable indefinitely, but you should still get a decent amount of "saves" before it becomes an issue. As a instanced content enjoyer I feel like this was an unintended interaction and will likely not change a whole lot of the strength of the build. Maybe a little less carry cheese, but still a prime pick for most inexperienced groups.

We'll definitely see! I'm always open to being wrong and honestly certainly hope you're right here that it won't affect much, especially since you can't really "brute force" through much of things like HTCM or Temple of Febe this way. -- I just think this is healthier way to expose newer players to mechanics. And definitely something that was largely glossed over by most that read through the preview. 😄

So I'm watching in 1080p, and idk if it's just me, but the website in the background is just super blurry (I'm on 1080p native and don't use a 4k screen).

It's not just you. I stream / record in 1080 60. But my isp was literally eating used the other night when I recorded this & alternated between vastly compressing my audio and then video. Genuinely ty for the feedback tho. I didn't notice myself until I put this one up.

Very good video, agree with most of your points. I was in a raid training static for most of last year with the guild I'm in, and this year most likely transitioning into a more of a teaching role, so we'll see how the Noblesse Oblige changes affect the raids and strikes - if it's purely for CMs of strikes and raids that's not too bad, but if it's also the base strikes, then might be a bit more rough (wording was a bit vague on the post and can be taken either way). With SOTO so far, I've found the story (especially this last patch's content) to be quite lackluster (5 minute story, 1 hour grind events, 5 minute story, 1 hour grind events, 20 minutes story that was horribly lackluster compared to even Core Tyria story/fights, and then just done). Definitely feels like they scoped out a big expansion's worth of story and then had to cut a lot of content so that it would fit into their new yearly release schedule. But I'm cautiously optimistic, maybe this next content release will be a good finale. Over this last year, my confidence in ArenaNet has taken a knock, I won't lie. A lot of their latest balance changes have been a miss (it really feels like they're just looking at Snowcrows numbers and tuning everything down to have the same numbers, regardless of how hard the builds are, so there's little reason to pick difficult builds and spend time learning them if you can do just as well with a 2-button build). I've seen a lot of veteran friends stop playing for that reason too, the challenging aspect is now gone. The art and design of the new expansion is pretty good though. When SOTO came out I bought it the day it was announced, and even bought one of the more expensive packs (the one with skins and gems) because after the previous expansions, I was so hyped to play it. But after playing SOTO so far, I think I'll still buy the next expansion (GW2 is one of my main social activities with friends), but I'll probably only buy the base one, and I rarely buy gems anymore. Just my personal opinion, but I'm feeling a lot less confident in Anet's direction than I used to. Edit: My other issue with the balance patch and skill expression is how they're changing every class to "spam all the buttons off cooldown" instead of actually letting the classes use their abilities in a smart way. E.g. Scrapper being forced to use function gyro as part of the rotation to generate quickness, instead of having function gyro being used for... the one thing function gyro was designed for! Or celestial avatar on druid being the "oh shit" heal button, except you now need it for alac, so you need to use your healing off cooldown and hope that the damage your team takes lines up with your alac rotation, which feels wrong.

Ty, solid take imo. SoTO was the first XPac that I actually bought the base version of. Mostly because irl I work in marketing and know a "Battle Pass" when I see it. To be clear: It's a GOOD Battle Pass (if you want to see it that way.) Probably one of, if not the least, predatory in the game's industry rn. Which is in a pretty unknown state overall itself. However I also 400% agree with your take on skills balance and gameplay. Even in WvW / PvP, largely because of the class homogenization and feature creep, it feels like every fight is just "Roll face on keyboard until one of us runs out of blocks, invulns, dodges, etc." I'm super biased because I play Bladesworn, but before SoTO classes and skills felt like they had flavor and you could gain "A" if you lost "B" now, with the induction of cele gear, universal dmg reduction modifiers, etc. everything feels very similar. I'm still supportive of ANet. The game still rocks. I just hope they find a way to add back some fun + flavor in the future.

idk. maybe I'm just getting old as a jaded warrior player, but I kind of hate every change that ANet's made lately. Maybe it's just turning into "a different game" and that'll be good in the long run. But the boon homogenization / loss of class flavor thing, The adding a 3rd Difficulty and basically locking balance in place forever to Cerus CM, Even the balance devs quite clearly spending all of their dev time on whatever weapons they like more / feel like actually even bug testing, just, i dunno, makes me not want to give ANet more money. *shrug* I dun wanna be a downer. It just seems like management has tons of good ideas over there, but is so distant from what actually goes on in their own studio.

I definitely feel you on the class flavor thing for sure. (Also clearly not biased.) But I think ANet's looking at things from a mostly PvE perspective these days. -- See also, why we haven't gotten in a "no downstate" week in actually forever. *also shrug* I just wish they'd leave the like 3 remaining functionality-changing PvP traits alone, instead of sacrificing them on the altar of "Technically Viable For Some Build But Not Actually Good In PvE." Yes it's a long altar title lol

As an elementalist main, I was über disappointed with pistol. Feels super anticlimatic for a mage and its clunky and crap to use.

Interesting: Is it that it just that it adds too much that maybe isn't needed, or do the skills not flow together like other ele Weapons? Genuinely asking because from a Grass is Greener' perspective it looks Nuts & I don't play Ele much these days.

​@@GW2PseudoI guess it's subjective, cuz I've been playing piatol weaver (which is probably the hardest due to the interactions between bullets and dual attacks) and been having a blast. Doesn't feel clunky to me and managed to push my dps on golem by a lot after switching to it. That being said, it feels awesome in raids, strikes, metas or other group content, but rather underwhelming in solo open world (which is not an issue for me cuz I love sword anyway) due to low base dmg on skills. Doesn't feel the best in pvp either, but that could be a matter of more practice and better build, but so far haven't found anyone actually playing it in pvp, especially ranked, so we will see about that, hoping for some buffs in that area. It's very fun to play cuz of the unique bullet mechanic. Is it hard and takes time to wrap ur head around it? YES. But imo it does feel rewarding once u figure it out and just feels good how the rotation flows. One thing they could still work on a bit are the skills animations, especially dual attacks. Idk if it's possible they do that and apparently they already improved some of them since beta, but would be nice if Fire-Water or Water-Earth dual attacks weren't just combinations of respective elements' auto attacks. That and it being potentially just too weak in pvp are my only concerns though.

@@pwk50 Not a bad take either. CmC is clearly a super fan of Weaver so it doesn't surprise me at all that pistol works well as an option there. I think it being mostly single-target projectiles is the trade-off it's supposed* to have? So I don't doubt it's use in PvP is intentionally limited to dueling. I'd hope that's by design. Altho many of the water & earth skills now multi-hit, so who knows if that'll even stay. 😂 Dif people have did perspectives + experiences, so ty for the info as well!!

@@GW2Pseudo It actually has more aoe than might initially look like. Fire2 is single target that ricochets into nearby enemies and burns them, Fire3 is double hit aoe, fire-earth can be an aoe, air-fire dual attack is an aoe, water3 is an aoe, earth2 is the same as fire2. It certainly doesn't have the same aoe cleave as, let's say, sword or hammer, but it can do a bit of that too, especially on weaver with primordial burst and tempest with overloads. As for pvp and dueling.. Yeah, I've been trying to make that work, but with little success. Haven't spent A LOT of time on that and only tried pistol-dagger, so maybe pistol-focus would be better. I'll surely experiment more when I have more time... *Sigh*

@GW2Pseudo Just try to play for a while and you will see no matter which attack you use, they all look the same and do practically the same thing. They could just as easily make 5 skills out of the total 20 and no one would notice the difference. As for dynamics, as you noticed, the animations are boring and even if this weapon did a million DMG, you would want to turn off the game after 5 minutes. ☠️ Of all the MMOs I've played, GW 2 has the least satisfying mages
