I got an email from Paul Grimwood (who's writing a book on Sanford). The tales of his affairs mostly come from Lady Aberdeen who (as I mentioned) wasn't the biggest fan of Sanford. They may be overstated, or outright false, so please take that with a grain of salt.

Your videos are awesome. This one in particular is so very interesting. That house he had built is far FAR out. What an ego he must have had.

I know a lot of the information in these stories may seem weird, but remember it was a different world. A lot of people married cousins (The Queen was married to a cousin, Albert Einstein married a cousin etc.) fruit was most definitely a luxury (that is why the tradition of clementines and orange chocolate is still given at Christmas) and child labour was not strange, cruel or even illegal. Great information though, please keep up a series on famous Hamiltonians!

I have to say, I absolutely love your Faded Hamilton series! It’s always such a delight when a notification pops up for the latest release. My only complaint is that there aren’t more of them. 😆 If you’re ever looking for ideas, I would love to see you do a deep dive on Gage Park and the Gage family. I saw some old renderings via Vintage Hamilton of what the park looked like way back when, as well as the land surrounding it (around the late 1910’s and/or early 20’s). IIRC, there used to be an old Gage family farm, as well as a working boys home that occupied the eastern side of the park including where several of the houses now sit. I know that a Faded Hamilton video on the subject would be a fascinating watch, so just some food for thought!

What a great video. Love the history. Those homes were magnificant. Miss Hamilton. Building and homes are not built like that anymore. Not even close.

It's definitely kind of depressing how poorly Hamilton's heritage buildings are up-kept. The Friends of Auchmar Manor (a heritage interest group) ran out of funding almost half a decade ago iirc. Then, just a block away is Claremont Lodge, just rotting away. Kind of sad for a place once known as the "Ambitious City". I wonder if there's a potential story for this series on who decided to okay the design of the current city hall, what type of drug he was on, and if it's still available, lol.

They almost all came from this FB post by Paul Grimwood. Paul knows basically all things Sanford.: facebook.com/paul.grimwood.7/posts/pfbid02ktnsSBnE8Xwqk3XbGrNnt3tLpe9nCWQwrCLDV23tzPcAXVczHJH3BAwaRCQxBc8vl One other came from the book "Hamilton, The Birmingham of Canada" which can be found on Google Books.
