This video is criminally underrated! Thank you so much for making it. I also own the X-T5 and I love it but my Lord, the false positives (where the camera says its in focus but its actually not) drives me insane! I really want to use Fujifilm for bird phitography but spending over $1k in a supertelephoto lens on a system that is subpar is not a wise financial decision. It would be great if you send this video to Fujifilm customer service so they realize that their AF still needs to be fixed.

Thanks, i'm just a small channel so very vey little reach! There is a caveat to this at least, you can, in zone AF, set the priority, so the camera looks in the foreground or background. However I'm not sure if this works with the subjects, it seems to though. I did a video on this too, to illustrate. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJ2XlXmQbZyCm8U

Good luck hoping Fuji will ever sort this out. They even don’t know what is wrong with their autofocus and it is a never ending story

The AF was not to bad on the initial launch, but the updates this year seem to have issues. Its very frustrating!

Is everyone mad about AF for video making, or is this something affecting stills as well? Thanks.

There have been issues with the prior release to the current one and things are moving in the right direction. I did a follow up video on this just last week, where I tested the video auto focus and its ok as long as you stay with the same subject. As I explained in this video, while the AF struggled, I was asking the camera to do rather daft things, you'd not really move around like this! The issue with stills is that the camera could focus on the background sometimes, or if you did not tell the AF to focus on foreground subjects, it would randomly pick on, so I was getting misses in portrait shots. Fuji AF is a bit different to other cameras, and needs a helping had sometimes. Folks compare to Sony, which is better, but Sony tends to cost more too. I think there is still room for improvement to the fuji AF though, but the latest firmware is an improvement.

I'm currently using a Lumix G9, and have considered getting into Fujifilm rather than updating to the G9 mk II, but the Fuji auto-focus worries me a bit, especially since I shoot mostly wildlife, which are already challenging.
@NatsWright2 ай бұрын
@@BrentODell I shoot lumix too! The G9 ii is very good by all accounts. My S5iix is really good for AF
@BrentODell2 ай бұрын
@@NatsWright The S5ii seems like a REALLY great deal for the price, and I like the lens lineup for the L-mount, too. If I didn't want/need the 2x crop factor of micro 4/3 for wildlife, I'd seriously consider going that route.

@@BrentODell The 2x crop is worth it, although the image quality on the S5ii is amazing!

There is an existing bug in video on (I *think*) the X-T5 where if you turn off the camera and then turn it back on your volume settings SHOW as the same levels as prior to power-off, but the volume is WAAAYYYY UP. If you then go into the menu where you've adjusted the volume level and then back out - now your volume level is correct again. (WEIRD BUG) So kinda losing the volume level if you power off but showing what it WAS at prior to power-off. You might do a test to see if that what happened. Also I don't remember if you needed to select the volume and then back out, but the test is just to see if your levels are the same after a power-on but the volume is up - then it's the same bug.

I heard about this issue, and will certainly check it out and do a mini video on it! Thanks for the heads up!

My experience with the XS-20 is, that you just TURN OFF Eye Detection and it works for me without a problem. I dont shoot people in general, so maybe i am not into this but in Street Photography, i never had a issue with this. Works for me everytime. Imporant: the AF experience always changes with each lense you have! For me the 16-55 still nails 90% of it and the newer 33 1.4 like 99% in Focus. Can be confusing yes, but i never rely in something green fiddling around and saying its in focus. i better double check and adjust manually. Yes, you pay money for it to rely on it but with Sony you pay like double the price and there you have it, a better AF. Fuji was never well known for best AF so....

Haha, yes, I was standing next to a load of photographers the other day all discussing their AI autofocus, and I exclaimed "I'm using single point AF" The AI certainly has its place, but single point is very accurate and you use the best setting for the situation! Sony is very expensive and fuji just have such lovely colour science. They have come a long way since the likes of the XA-5 autofocus too.
