As an Orioles fan I can say you need to dig deeper. It's contractual and MLB rules to keep him around longer. They've done it with other young up and coming stars too. There also isn't any point in having him sit on the bench.

Holiday is in the minors because he has scott boras as an agent. Boras is notorious for his players not signing an extension and testing their value on the open market. The extra year of service time is worth its weight in gold only based on that. His bat is big league ready. his defense probably still needs some seasoning. He hit .311 in spring training while batting leadoff. It's not like he was getting in the game in garbage time and was hitting off guys with no names on the backs of their jerseys. He is also expected to play 2nd base in the bigs a position hes only played a hand full of games at. Unless hes destroying AAA pitching (which he is 5-14 hr and 2 doubles) he will be called up around the all star break to ensure he doesnt finish in the top 2 in al rookie of the year voting earing a full year of service time.

He would get slayed by major league left handed pitchers. He’s 20 years old making $8 million. And it has not been decided where he will be later in the season. He’s not demoted. Demoted is being sent down from the majors for non performance. The orioles have fabulous, young position players. I suspect he will be called up this season, but right now the Orioles are 4-2 and don’t look like they need him, at least not yet.

It looks like to me now that he wasn't ready. 5+ games isn't enough to decide if he's good, but he looks very out of place rn. He's behind on fastballs, not seeing curves, and shaky at 2nd. I don't think you send him down since we already brought him up, that'll kill his confidence. In hind sight, I think it would've been smart to wait at least till after the all star break to bring him up, but we're in this shit now baby! I still trust, he's an icon. He'll get there. #GoOs!!!! 🟠⚫️⚪️

The O's are still figuring their infield out. As for left handed pitching... that is just silly. Look at Gunnar Hendersons stats from last year. He saw almost 75 percent more righties than lefties. If this were true, they would leave every left handed hitter in AAA for an extra 3 years. This is 100 percent about the O's getting the most out of Jackson, and that means not bringing him up because this will increase the amount of time they have before having him eligible for arbitration. By waiting until June it buys them more time. It's how the O's respond to dealing with agents like Boras.

It's confusing why he is playing SS in AAA to develop his skills as 2B (where Orioles seem to see him fitting into the lineup) and facing LH pitchers that if they were of ML quality would already be playing ML rather than AAA. Sounds like a business decision by the Orioles rather than a "player development" strategy. Just saying!

I'm curious if his father might sway his decisions in order to eventually have Jackson leave Baltimore to fulfill his father's dreams of making the Rockies a viable team someday. Jackson, live out the potential greatness with Baltimore and try to bring back teams that stay together and get one or two World championships through steadfastness. Look at the NFL when the Giants, Redskins and Cowboys stuck together and were rewarded .Plus you get to beat up on the Yankees, Astros and surely will command a great salary. Put the Lord Jesus first and foremost and He might bless you. Look at those before you like Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, Clyde Drexler to name a few, their perseverance payed off. Jackson, be your own man, we love you young fella.

He wasn’t “demoted”, he was a part of the roster for spring training which includes the 40-man + invitees, and wasn’t added to the 25-man regular season roster to start the season. He was optioned to triple-A Norfolk, which is the highest he’s been and where he ended the previous season, and actually got called up to the Orioles today. He’ll get his shot at SS/2B on the MLB roster to prove he belongs, and if they think he needs more development, they’ll re-option him (that’s a demotion).

@timmcgrath11058 ай бұрын
Screwing him for service time? Or playing by the rules negotiated with the players union? If they hold him back to get another service year so what? They paid him an $8 mil signing bonus. The reason that bonuses for top guys are so big is exactly because the team controls when service time begins. Its not like the player isn't going to cash out for as much as he possibly can to another team at the first possible moment. His time will come. Why blame the Orioles for wanting the best package when he arrives for the term that they will have him?

There are no good lefty arms in AAA. If there were, they’d be in MLB before they can even reach AAA. He needs to get reps vs lefties in MLB in order to truly grow. As for not having reps at 2nd, the Orioles knew they had Gunnar as their future SS for a year now. They should’ve spend all last year giving Holliday reps at 2nd. Just seemed like short sightedness by the Os there unfortunately. Hell be up shortly after the service time manipulation is up.
