What’s wrong with my engine?

Күн бұрын1981 Yamaha sr250. The exhaust tappet came loose and fell out. I rode home for a mile like that. I put it back in and readjusted the valves and cam tensioner but now there is a chalky grinding sound. What’s wrong? What should I look at?

have you removed the tappet covers?

Sounds like the camshaft and valve gear could be lacking lubrication

you think it could be a blocked passage? you must have sensed i was thinking about selling this bike so i could get interested in fixing it again.

@@tehloon sorry...should have replied here....have you removed the tappet covers. I suspect the scraping noise happens when the cam lobe is opening a valve
