Lighting was bad and lot of mumbling…couldn’t follow. Would have to love to find out how it turned out. I have a 70 Johnson.

Need to start with impeller in lower unit especially I sat for a long time

The wire hooked to the head is the over heating sending unit. The buzzer in the throttle hand should buzz if temperature goes to high.. you can bore and rebuild it very easy.

Yea figured that out was alittle confused 😂 but yea our plan probably is to get it over bored and rebuild it 👍

I could hook you up with my 88 spl , im ready to bite the bullet and buy a new one , its supposed to be a new power head , i just rebuilt the lower unit ( i have three of them ) the starter ate the flywheel and its a stubborn cold blooded 2 stroke , but ..its never made me swim back unless it was my fault ( ran out of gas one time )

Video is hard to watch, a tripod would really help

I would start by changing the impaler getting rid of the auto oiler and premix and change the thermostats

What's the actual problem with the V4? (jumped the gun - that scoring and rod/piston wear is pretty bad and way over 10% compression variance. I've torn mine apart many times and have all the service manuals for it. I wish I could see where you were poking around.
@dirtydans47532 жыл бұрын
The cylinders have actually gotten bigger from wear and the pistons have developed slop allowing them to slap around in the cylinder which is called piston slap and of left alone will destroy the engine quickly.

@@dirtydans4753 ...sounds like rod knocking and worn rings to me
@dirtydans47532 жыл бұрын
@@AN-kg4ei yea rod bearing are tight still luckly but will get replaced any ways but i think yea the rings got weak and allowed piston flop around 👍.

The wire goes to the temp sensor on your head. The aluminum pistons expand at operating temp and take up some of the slack but that bottom left piston is wore out. The piston/ring sets are not that expensive on Ebay. A donor power head is a great idea if its any good. Take some time to rebuild or at least clean the carbs and clear the jets of any buildup or blockage. A lean carb will cause overheating on a 2 stroke and at WOT actually melt a piston top (I know this from experience on that same motor). The Johnson 90 is a great engine, I just do not trust the oil injection and disable that system and go to mixed gas/oil in the fuel tank. It's also more expensive to maintain the oil injection system. Just my 2 cents... This is a great motor to learn from, I look forward to your future videos.. Good luck.. Joe

Love the content. Try to use better lighting. The engine was too dark to see for most of the video. Time lapse is your friend for slow bolt turning and then you can pause and switch to normal video if something more interesting comes up. Also talking with the cam in your mouth gets a little hard to listen after a while. Not trying to bash you just trying to help. I think you could skyrocket in subs if this kind of content continues.

Thanks for the comment. I used a gopro to video it but yea i agree talking with it in my mouth was a big mistake lol wont be doing that anymore. Got a new camera aswell ao content and quality should get better.👍

That boat engine needs piston rings.& Cylinders honed out with A ball hone from online. & Possibly new piston tops. I'd hone the cylinders out good. Then replace the pistons.& Oil rings on it. I do recommend add in some STP with bars stop leak that has zinc additives into the motor oil. Get extra pure zinc additives.& One tip to you for storing it Id also invest in some pure fuel stabilizer to add into the fuel tank even if your 2 stroke oil has in it.cause that isn't enough for longer storage shelve life time do to setting in the fuel tank. I also recommend running it at least once every month for 20 to 30 minutes tops then let it cool back down again to recover it up.

With all due respect to you,. you need to NEVER touch an engine because you have zero idea what a two stroke is or how it works. There are NO OIL RINGS< NO Piston tops whatever the hell you think that is and IF you ball hone this cylinder more that 5 or 6 strokes you have jut made it ready to blow. It will then need bored at a machine shop that knows what to do with two stroke cylinders and non straight through cylinders. Most shops CAN NOT DO IT. Everything you said was just garbage friend.

Awesome video, just try to use tripods or chest camera mount cause having the camera in your mouth/head make the video really shaking and give motion sickness. But awesome content keep it up

Definitely using tripod in videos to come 👍.
@ionracer242 жыл бұрын
That was painful to watch. I know ur learnin but at least youtube or google disassembly proceedures. Those cylinders fail cause of uneven oiling and runnin lean. Johnson's and evinrudes were notorious for that particular failure.
@daddski12 ай бұрын
DUde.. you do know you just took the bolts out of the water jacket and NOT the cylinder heads right? The jacket covers do NOT need to come off. The pistons are designed to be wobbly at the top end. They are a TAPERED skirt with the bottom being slightly large than the tops. However the scoring has to go probably a .030 or larger bore NOT JUST HONING lmao, the bottom piston is wrong size lol. I would bet someone had it bored and then put a standard piston in a hole that was bored at least .010 Find parts on ebay guy. That engine will last forever if taken care of. Wonder now what you did with it.

It’s worth rebuilding, plenty of videos on rebuilding them and I don’t think you’re going to find a good powerhead for less than a grand, also you could be buying someone else’s problem
