The solutions he talks about at the end are key. Getting the cost of actual health care lowered is the real issue, and the only way to do that is through price competition like he says. Trying to mandate cheap insurance is not tackling the root issue, and will never work out.

I wish you wrote the doi numbers for the study. Literally cannot find them anywhere on google scholar.

The problem is the demand for health care. Too many people do not take responsibility for their health. Demand could go down by 60 to 70% if people changed their life styles. Heart disease and type 2 diabetes are examples of diseases that could be vastly reduced through change in diet and a reduction in stress through perhaps meditation and change in attitudes in life.

You are too optimistic on what a change of life style will accomplish

So basically when ACA was passed, the people who needed it, but who were eligible for Medicaid are people who most likely, can't work probably due to disability, so of course they are sicker, but the people who work are paying for it, subsidizing it with higher premiums, and when they go to use their insurance they can't afford it because they can't meet their deductible. Then there is more demand, but less providers accepting Medicaid, (which horrible for rural areas, as there are less people, and less providers), because the Gov't doesn't pay them as much. THE HDHPs and HSAs let people see more of what they are spending, but put a cap on out of pocket and eliminated denial due to pre-existing conditions. We need more visibility and transparency in pricing. Its all a giant shell game of shuffling costs and money around. Its interesting that more Direct Pay providers have been popping up lately.

First off, are you saying that we shouldn’t provide health insurance for disabled people? Cause that’s what it sounds like, and if that’s your position then you really need to rethink your morals. Secondly, paying for Medicaid doesn’t affect either premiums or deductibles. It’s a separate system covered by taxes. Finally, HSAs are terrible, mainly because there is no out of pocket cap on spending. When your account runs dry, you pay out of pocket, leaving people with massive debt. I’m not really a big fan of the ACA, especially considering the Healthy Americans Act was a far better alternative, but getting rid of it would destroy an important part of the health insurance system.

It's very distracting to have slides with so much written information, which on top of eveything don't match what the speaker is saying. So, what do I do? Do I listen to the guy or do I read the slides?

Medicaid recipients are for people who have very low income or no income at all. They do get good health care treatment and all the medication they take are the same medication as private insurance. They get the same treatment as private insurance. The problem Is that health insurance want to stay profitable and pharmaceutical company want to set their price at whatever they want!! They don’t want unhealthy people get health insurance so their company lose money. They make it difficult for patient to get health insurance
