the metaphor is that kids follow one other kid they follow the leader.
@jai27768 ай бұрын
Yes and that as they become the leader, certain people ostracize them because of the unique and bold traits it takes to to be a leader and then others (who are on the opposite side of the perceived haters) put the leader on a pedestal and then follow them in a dehumanizing way leaving the leader all alone. Its life’s paradox. We all force leaders into existence by wanting to make decisions but not be alone but then those leaders fall into depression because they too just want to make choices with others without being alienated. So were followers that are afraid to be alone and force judgements on others, or leaders with few to no people who see and love who we really are. Or maybe I just need to drink more water lol😂

I’m gonna take a darker kinda interpretation of kids, it’s like the routine of doing the same thing over and over again, the other one is that they are all unalive them selves and you as society at first try to save them then you forget that it’s not normal and helps them unalive themselves

The thing that really sticks out to me is that at the beginning you are trying to catch the children, you try to slow their descent, but at the end you let them fall faster. To me this is kinda like we want to hold our children and slow everything down for us, the player, the parent. there is no real reason for you to slow their descent (as they speed back up on the bottom of the screen). So we the player (or parent) have to be able to let them go and do their own thing because that is inevitably what will happen

Its interesting how Matt and mirror Matt have interpreted the meaning of the game, because I personally came out with a different perspective. It's about children, in today's society. I'm 13, so it comes from experience. Threw out the video, we see multiple examples of conforming to pure pressure and conforming to what everyone else is doing. And examples of new views being crushed and conformed. I think it's about kids in today's society being pure pressured into becoming almost exactly alike, conforming into society's specific worldview, and crushing any with one that differs. Things that aren't good for you, such as drugs, vaping/smoking, etc. Be pushed on youth as a trend, as something you should be doing because well, everyone does, making you seem weird, or, strange because your not comfortable with doing things along those lines. Everyone pure pressuring you to see, act, think just like they do, not letting your differences in beliefs shine. And these are things that we face basically from birth, are parents can slow the decent into conformity, but most of the time its inevitable. Thank you for reading this really long comment 😅

when i was little i wanted to start working on movies and comics and all that. right now im planning for a video game which is based on one of my old movie ideas. the movie was nameless, but i call it: "Tropes in the underworld" because it used to be about very trope-y characters who went to the underworld and fought verious random monsters which are also very trope-y. the game is only loosely based on it, but honestly tropes in the underworld sounds like a funny idea to put in the game as a little easter egg in an ad or on a tv or something. also it sounds like a good parody, even though as a kid i thought it was a great idea un-ironically cause as a kid youre like: "What is a parody? what is irony? what is sarcasm?"

I think it's from birth to death. And every hole you jump into is a different major life event. With the fist hole being birth and the final hole being death. In the middle you have a choice of holes, and society chooses which hole you're supposed to jump into.
@mulberrymoth3 жыл бұрын
To me the fact that we kept seeing the birth scene makes me think of repetition and how as a society we have this pretty strict idea of how our lives should go. So it’s both about individuality between your peers, as well as individuality among other generations and the “system” in general
@Demon-ny6vj3 жыл бұрын
Conforming is almost like lying to yourself saying that you are this person that you are "supposed" to be. but that can happen with trying to stand out to, where you exaggerated every emotion and start acting in ways that would make you stand out rather than just the way you want to be. so yeah I agree I think that you want to find a balance somewhere in the middle.

I feel like the game is about how kids function and what it's like to be a kid. I think the varying actions you take in the game represent the learning process of a child. They explore, and want to try new things. For example, you have the swimming upwards when in the void, which is a new and interesting thing for a kid to explore. I think conformity is definitely one of the things that the kids in the game explore though.
@SA-cj4cb3 жыл бұрын
I have never played this game, nor have I ever watched anyone else play it before, but it has unexpectedly left me feeling rather thoughtful and melancholy. The idea of individuality vs conformity does seem to be the key factor in this, and what makes it rather sad is the fact that these humanoid creatures are supposedly representing kids. I remember a school teacher telling everyone that being different is good. But when you deny normality, you in itself become abnormal, and the same teachers praising uniqueness consider you an outcast. And where does an outcast go? That part in the game where the kid runs off the other direction, only to end up at the hole once again, seems to suggest that in reality, there is nowhere you can go. And is that truly a bad thing? There's a negative connotation when it comes to conformity. Anything restricting an individual's behavior, thoughts, and emotions are considered vile, especially in this modern era we live in. But consider the goodness that comes from it. Were you not relieved during the game when you were part of the group? When you lead the others through the small hole on the ground? When you participated in the clapping? When your opinion on which way to go was accepted by others? The sense of belonging is a powerful idea, and we cannot deny that it feels good to connect with others. Personally, I feel there can never be a right or wrong to this conclusion. Whether you value individuality or you agree with uniformity, we came to this world through one path, and the kids who will come after will go through that same path to the place we stand today. Is what I was thinking as I watched Matpat play this silly little game. I cannot wait for more !
@jenneric032 жыл бұрын
I think the metaphor of the game is that kids are impressionable and will do whatever adults tell them to do especially ones they trust. Even if it hurts them, after all, YOU are the adult so you must know what’s best for them, right?

as a former gifted kid i gotta say, this game oddly feels like how gifted kids can and likely will be treated. they’re just like normal kids, in groups, and can conform and will do things to fit in like any kid. but they also go against the grain a lot because of their perceived intelligence. they’re expected to lead and be leaders from an early age. they’re like normal kids, with a different set of expectations because they’re allegedly smarter than the others when the reality is they just tend to work better in the education system as it’s operated. idk that’s my hot take ignore my lack of proper english.
@lillypad53173 жыл бұрын
I thought of school as well, I was immediately reminded of the education system and how children are basically herded through with little consideration for individual well being or individuality in general. I don't know how else to say this, the part with the child lying down beside the hole and then the others being guided to it, feels like a visual representation of the mentality to want children to want to progress in the way that you want them to while being willing to "throw them in" so to speak if they end up not being what it is someone or the system desired them to be.

I know this isn't relevant, but I did find something to prove MatPat's theory on Glamrock Chica and Toy Chica correct and it's that the torsos in one of the levels are very similar to Toy Chica and Glamrock Chica's torsos

I hope the anniversary livestream will watchable not-live as well, I'd certainly watch it when I'm not busy on the day if not later on. (Yeah, I mean pretty much like a VOD lol, but it'd be great to watch for those who can't catch it live, y'know?)

Hey so I know that you may or may not be reading this but I found a very emotional game called before your eyes. Its game thats controls are based on motion sencers (mostly for your eyes and how you blink) and let me tell you it is emotional.

My interpretation of this game has always been that sometimes conformity can slow progress. The lone kid that got to the hole was the one who figured it out and got to the end goal ahead of everyone else.

I think the part about being eaten or born actually represents when you're growing up and how after you're a kid the pressures of society that you don't feel as hard then kind of eat you up and force you down different paths then what you would have chosen on you're on and then it's like you're born as a new person the person that Society wants you to be rather than actually literally being eaten or being given birth to. I also think that with the whole the one kid that went away and just lie there and didn't want to do anyting I think that kind of represents how even once you break free and start to be your own person you're separated from everyone who is conforming and then you become an outcast and that's why he just lied down cuz he has no one and nothing anymore. But hey that's just a theory A Game Theory

Maybe it's just me. I found this game deeply disturbing. What came to mind for me were themes of isolation, of being singled out, following the crowd, plus things hard to put into words...maybe part of it's my depression. It just seems unsettling to me. I dunno.
@lillypad53173 жыл бұрын
I don't think your alone in those feelings, I think this game is meant to be disturbing and people over look that. The most disturbig thing to me is the way they jump off into the whole just that visual doesn't feel like it woud be used to represent something positive happening.
