Always loved the 28mm/50mm relationship. As my friend, Doriyan Coleman, always said: “28mm is a ‘come with me’ focal length and 50mm is a ‘look at this’ focal length.’ Been enjoying the stories you can tell with those two perspectives.

That’s actually a great way of describing the combo. I didn’t even really realize until right now but in my early Fuji days my two most used lenses where the 18 and 35 lenses. When I had Nikon I had the 28 and 50 1.8 G lenses. And even on the a7 iii I had the 28 f2 and 55 1.8. Great combination. If I have to only bring one I think that’s when I sort of split the difference and the grab the 35

@@Lonnie.G funny how that happens! I love the 35 but I love 28’s width. I enjoy having that latitude for someone or something else to come into the frame. But 35 is definitely desert island focal length, for sure. Great video, man.

A 35 and a 50 is really all you need imo. Just found your channel today. Queuing this for later. To me these two cover the two ways in which us humans can view our surroundings. A 35 being wider, but still manageable in terms of composition and 50 mm for a slightly more focused and undistorted perspective. I'd like to experiment more with a 24mm though. But I've yet to find an affordable fast zoom to cover those wider aspects. I used to own one but traded/sold it for the 35, since that was what I used most of the time anyway.

In my mind I want to go 28 + 50 but the 35 is just so versatile that it’s hard not to consider it. I’d also like to experiment with 24 as I’ve seen amazing shots done with it but I’ve always avoided wide angle. I bought a used 17-28 2.8 so sometimes I use it but definitely not enough. Need to set it to 24 and just take it out for a week. If I like it I could see myself buying a fast 24 prime for sure. Thank you!

@@Lonnie.G You definitely should! I think wide angle can be quite fun for artsy shots. It would be a great learning opportunity if nothing else. If you're looking to splurge, I believe the Canon 24/1.4L II is coming down in price these days. Looks like a great lens. If money wasn't an issue I'd be sure to pick one up.

85/35 in that order. I feel like 85 makes EVERYTHING look good, as long as you have the room to use it 😂 I shoot a lot of portraits and cars.

Yes 85 is king for portraits IMO. I love 135 too but while very dreamy, it's also way more limiting. 85 is just right. I have never shot cars but I've seen a lot of good work done with an 85!

Again superb.! I do not like Zooms, therefore I also was always struggling to find out, what is the right lens to be on my shooter. The time I had the Sony with the 40 Meg Pix it was rather easy. Take the shot with any lens that is rather wide Angle and crop it. Now I use a manual 35 mm Samyang on my X Pro 3 to slow me down. The second best lens is the Fuji Prime 1,2 56 mm. It helps me focussing on what I really want.

Sometimes manual focus can be really refreshing and engaging to use. Nice combination. Do you have any wider lenses for your X Pro 3 now?

Try the samyang/rokinon 35 f1.8, very light weight, sharp and good autofocus. Also "cheap".
@Lonnie.G3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried that one yet, but I did have the 2.8 Rokinon. I was impressed by the image quality for the price. AF seemed fast but it was very inaccurate in continuous focus on the a7 iii for some reason. In single point it was great but I hated switched AF mode when switching lenses. I’m sure they have improved since then though so if I get a chance I’ll try that out. Thanks!
