Well, according to this guide, I'm an advanced guitar player, but I've always considered myself an "advancing" guitar player.

I'm completely self taught from when i first started three years ago. My friends say i play at an intermediate level but i don't know alot of the basics. I know about 20 chords and a couple barre chords that i can transition between mostly seamlessly. My friends also say how i stum is a little odd but that they like how it sounds. I do a sort of pick strum sorta thing and sometimes throw in a rock step on my left hand on the fretboard. I know i probably have very bad technique, but im having fun doing what i can. I know enough that I've written an original song at least.

I was as humbled going from woodwinds to keys as keys to guitar in re: relearning technique. I love technique day ("prog day"), especially since as an improv jazz player it gets old doing the same ole same ole...

I thought I'm a beginner, but I'm actually intermediate by this vid's definition I have actually played guitar for a month only I play for 2-4 hours a day and I take private lessons twice a week from a professional I think this is the period where I can make the most progress, so I'm grinding hard at it

19 years of self taught playing songs I write, every time I discover a new technique or hear a style I've never heard before I'll incorporate it into my newest composition. That said, I'm perpetually on the cusp of being satisfied and nit-picking the technique because by the time I get something down there's another song I'm working on that's not how it sounds in my head yet. Gotta challenge yourself while constantly honing your skills. When you're uninspired try revamping old material to include counter-melodies, fills, double-stops, harmonics and whatever else you've learned since. It's not relevant how good you are, only that you're constantly improving. If you can pull that off you'll be surprised when you get positive feedback while being inwardly critical. The only beneficial comparative examination is "have I better served the song than before?" Much love. Callus-ness is for fingertips not hearts.

I have to laugh. (In good-natured amusement.) I think I'm an exception to your skill level system. I may be an advanced level MUSICIAN, but at two months, I'm definitely a beginner at guitar. My goal as a beginner has been to be able to play melodies by ear. I have a good ear and have been able to match melodies with my voice, and sing harmonies and hear chord changes in songs since I was a little girl. I've written and arranged music since I was a teenager. When I was 65, I took up the fiddle, and found it much easier to play by ear than by note, until I learned to match my knowledge of reading music to the violin fingerboard. Now that I'm 70, I've bought myself a little Squire Mini Strat, and I'm watching KZbin Videos and picking up what I can. Right now, I only play by tab, but I have of course started to pick out tunes by ear. I appreciate your attitude that we need to give ourselves credit for progressing - but I feel I have a LONG way to go.

I only know the B minor blues scale, and I have been playing for 6+ years. Im self taught but I can pretty much learn any song thrown at me in 30 minutes to an hour. Knowing scales and arpeggios and even being able to read music doesnt instantly make you a pro. Its about the time taken to practice your seperate right and left hand techniques. 👍

I meet all the points of the intermediate level, but I'm sure it's still too early to classify myself as such. I discovered your channel looking for information about playing with forearm or wrist because I have tendonitis due to a bad picking habit. And my rhythm and coordination are far from perfect.

apparently beginner me was an advanced player cus i figured out a couple songs within a week, hell first time i even played a guitar i figured out a bit of nothing else matters (on a basic level with no fingerstyle) on my own, but then couldnt get much more cus obviously a beginner cant play fingerstyle by ear first time playing a guitar

Wow. Turns out I'm an intermediate player. Weird. I started 11 months ago and if I think hard enough I can vaguely remeber that, at some point, I was worse than I am now but I don't remember improving at all.

I'm an Advanced, Intermediate Beginner, or a Beginning Advanced Intermediate, or an Intermediate Beginning Advanced player, lol. In other words i am very good at some guitar things, alright at some guitar things and new or struggling with other guitar things. That is what makes learning the guitar so cool, always something to learn or work on, but also some things to really enjoy when you get good.

What if I feel like I’m well into intermediate, but I still can’t use a pic effectively and I chords and single notes 100% of the time with my bare fingers
@tommccarthy30522 күн бұрын
Keep using your fingers as you continue with the pick if you want. At nearly 50 years in I use the pick, fingers & pick & claw. Try going back and forth - 5 minutes a day is fine - playing the same phrase and/or chords with the pick & without. The type & size of the pick is highly personal. It may be thevtype of puck you are using rather than the pick itself.

If it was simply rhythm guitar I’d probably say I’m for sure intermediate but I struggle with scales and finger style. I’m just not good at them. It’s taking me twice as long to learn scales as it did to get rhythm going and I was taught how to play chords first. So now I’m going back trying to get better and learn scales etc. does this make me just a beginner all over again? Thanks!

in my teens I gave up using a whammy bar / tremolo cause it was I guess to confusing, or it stopped me from being able to palm muting without the tremolo / whammy sound activates when hitting palm notes and guitar overall sometimes gone out of tune... I wonder if I probably should get a new guitar with tremolo / whammy abillity
