(Herzog) Politically he used to be full on 2 state solution and wanted Palestine to exist as a thriving nation. "Palestinian" is only a label that makes sense in the West, going back to the British protectorate, and was a name for the region from Roman times. "Palestinians" are actually just Arabs who claim ownership of this region. The core of this conflict is muslim expansion and conquer, which is hindered and has partly been reversed by Israel.

The other thing nobody talks about is the way international aid was largely responsible for nurturing a dependent culture of hatred. Thanks! I am at a loss as to how Hamas gained so much sympathy. I would love to hear a podcast go thru the decades to help non-Jewish people understand how Hamas a terrorist group gained world sympathy thru propaganda. I have explained to many people here in Canada 🇨🇦 the history and all of the concessions Israel has made. All the wars, all the terrorism, and the history of the land going back to Judaea. three weeks ago i came home via sarnia as a longhaul truck driver. there over the footbridge above the road hamas, their supporters, waving foreign flags (palestinian) and in my country, a good Dominion if there ever had been... i come home to foreigners making as much trouble as they can, twisting my fellows and poisoning national thought. the knesset has moslems sitting in it who DO NOT take discussions to the lunatic extremes of most arabs and moslems and much prefer parliamentary govt. canada used to be like this... israel does need to step up its game. the world has to know of the 2 million moslems who live in and prosper peacefully and peaceably in Eretz Israel. the palestinian physicians in israeli hospitals discharging honourably their duties as doctors, nurses, policemen, teachers, tradesmen, scholars, farmers, all of it - everything needed to build a society that values rule of law and parliamentary tradition. hamas does not. And israel should make better efforts to point this out for a start.

It's mainly a result of liberalism's and marxism's offshoot, progressivism. The idea that all humans and cultures are fundamentally the same, combined with the idea that everything about the world can be understood in terms of class conflict between oppressors and oppressed means that people in the West are not ideologically equipped to understand that some groups simply can be accurately classified as barbaric, and do not deserve a place in our society as equals. Ask pretty much any person living in a Western country if they think any group *really* wants to actually eradicate other societies, and they'll tell you no.

He was a psychopath that put civilians in harms way. He said he would do October 7th again and again. They need better leaders who actually care about their own people. They steal humanitarian aid to buy weapons and make themselves rich. They turned down offers for a state but their leaders refused because they want ALL the land and to be able to steal the aid for themselves. Israel was mostly left until that final offer of a state was met with violence. They pulled out of Gaza in 2005. Hamas destroyed the greenhouses Israel left to grow food. Hamas was voted in and started firing rockets into Israel, hence the blockade by Israel, though Palestinians could get work passes for jobs. Egypt had a complete blockade. Israel will swing left again at some point, I just hope the Palestinians have leaders that seize that opportunity

Nothing that is said in the conversation moves the needle in either direction, and I can't comprehend why. I am pro-Israel, and my wife is pro-Palestinian. A few weeks ago, I pulled a trump card in our discussion on the topic, which we mostly avoid because it goes nowhere and emotions run high. I showed her a New York Times article from 2009 called Fighter Sees His Paradise In Gaza's Pain. It features an interview with a jihadist where he is asked about the dying children in the conflict, and his answer is the answer no one on the left wants to acknowledge. My wife quickly dismissed the article as biased. They don't want to see that for them, it is glorious when a child dies for Allah. I think the Pro-Palestinian stance is anti-Palestinian if you reason out the stance. It gives Hamas permission to continue to push children, women, and the weak forward to the frontlines of this conflict. I think it is an act of pure evil to try and maximize the civilian deaths of your own people in a war. It's an act of pure evil to build your tunnel under apartment buildings, schools, and hospitals, knowing that when Israel launches a defensive strike, it can't help but inflict civilian casualties. The pro-Palestinan will never, through sheer will, come to the realization that Hamas and those fighters do not share our values, and no matter how hard we project Western values onto them, it doesn't transform the reality of the conflict. Those numbers of civilian dead we hear are because the Jihadists believe they are sending those people to paradise in the name of Allah's glory on earth.

It is odd how Hamas is rarely criticised by those in the West who rightly condemn the extent of the bombing of Gaza.Why do they not call for the Hamas leadership to accept the existence of Israel and agree to a deal that will stop the further killings of women and children in that narrow strip of land which they have ruled for over a decade and a half without any further democratic election.Tragically they are not expected to by supporters of an independent Palestine many of whom seem content to allow them to hold onto the hostages and continue the conflict.

I think the difference is that Christians were instructed by their God, to "tell" everyone about Jesus and how to get to heaven. So the worst thing that a Christian can do to a non-believer is be a complete nuisance. No one's life is in danger. But a Muslim's god told them to tell everyone to convert or die. And kill all the Jews and Christians. That is quite a different message.

Rabbi, I and many others recognize Sam Harris' points of view and agree with many. But please keep in mind that you're cherry picking here. Harris is an avowed atheist. And believes that religiosity, such as the one you're probably espousing, is in general the source of many human conflicts. This one included. That said, Islam as it is practices by Hamas (and all other Iran proxies), is especially pernicious in this context.

The challenge is that the Islamists are actually truer to the teachings of Islam. Any reform or moderation is criticized as a subversion by the Islamists and they are correct. The central problem is the conduct of the founder of Islam since he sets the primary example for the followers. The founder was a successful warlord that led the troops into many battles. It is difficult to explain why waging a war is wrong when the founder created the concept of Jihad and personally led men into battle. He killed uncles and other relatives in the field of battle in the taking of his hometown by conquest. He then led the execution of civilians that resisted conversion. How then can anyone argue that waging a war of religion against both the military and civilians is morally wrong?
