Factors Affecting Venous Return:
The pressure gradient from veins to the heart drives blood flow from veins to the heart. Sympathetic activity causes vasoconstriction and thereby increases venous return. Valves in veins counteract the effect of gravity and help in venous return. Activity in nearby muscles increases blood flow in the veins, by a mechanism called a muscle pump or venous pump. Respiratory activity creates negative pressure in the thorax, which helps pull the blood from the lower extremities. And finally, the suction effect by the heart itself also contributes to the venous return.

Could you explain how someone lying on their stomach for 16-20 hours a day for four months may have effected the venous pump? Muscle tone? Etc?

@5:54, it's just that the atrial ventricular valves are pulled towards the ventricles when the ventricles contract. But according to the video on atrial pressure changes during the cardiac cycle, I thought that a tree of ventricular vowel spoiled into the atria during ventricular contraction. Could you clarify?

During isovolumetric contraction, the valves bulge into the atria. And during the ejection phase, into the ventricles. It's mentioned so in video on atrial pressure. I hope that helps

Veins carry blood to body parts....so for legs we can say blood from heart goes to the legs....but then valves should prevent backflow of blood to heart right? How do valves allow blood to move only in one direction ie towards the heart?

It's already explained.

Veins carry blood towards the heart from the body hence the valves ensure the flow is unidirectional i.e; towards the heart
