This podcast examines a situation where you have made prior principled commitments to a position but now find yourself faced with practical circumstances which put those principles at risk.
The Payroll Protection Plan (PPP) was 2020 government program available to businesses and organizations, primarily in response to the economic damage done by Covid-19 slowdowns, shut-downs, and lock-downs.
Advocates of the free market found themselves in difficult circumstances due to the shutdowns during Covid. PPP was a life preserver offered by the government, the very entity which brought about the shutdowns. Should you take the money or stand on principle? Dr. Hicks looks at the arguments and principles--notably, justice, integrity and productiveness-- that must be considered in a complex situation.
This podcast is about Covid and PPP, but is about more than that.

Although the political spectrum lately has been thrown out of whack, this is my general heuristic involving social/fiscal policy: Classical Liberals are Centrists, and want only moderate, both fiscal and social restrictions/regulation. Libertarians are Centrists, and want the minimal, both fiscal and social restrictions/regulation. The Progressive Left, wants minimal social restrictions, and maximal fiscal regulation. The Conservative Right, wants maximal social restrictions, and minimal fiscal regulation. Focusing on the many foreign policy issues lately, I expanded my heuristic to include isolationism vs interventionism: Conservatives say, intervene if our values are threatened, but not our wallets. Progressives say, intervene if our wallets are threatened, but not our values. Libertarians say, necessarily don't intervene, if either is threatened. Classical Liberals say, don't necessarily intervene, if either is threatened.
