Raise your arm when you cross the finish line

Remove them for the aero gains.

Consider removing your arms altogether. Lighter, aero and generally more pro.

I sometimes use my hands on the ground, running like a horse, 4-wheel-drive if you like. For that extra momentum or for a nice finisher-foto.

Nice. This will improve traction and, therefore, performance.

I sometimes do the same, but with my stomach pointed up, a la bridge pose/exorcist demon. The people at the local park runs always give me weird looks as I pass them.

I've learned to place your thumbs on you your pointer fingers or middle fingers. This allows you to relax the others.

I’m realizing I don’t use my arms enough when running. Race photos prove this. This is a helpful video!

I've just recently learned that I can force my cadence to increase by just swinging my arms faster. It really feels like a cheat code for running.

Great tips. I was wondering the other day if I should have my hands with fingers pointing straight forward like a sprinter.

Very useful analysis. I thought I was probably doing it right unconsciously; now I now why. Thanks guys.

Seth Demoor mentioned arms in one of his videos, mentioning practically the same things you guys mentioned and it has changed my running A LOT for the better. Before I had learned from a local running club, that your hands should never go above your bellybutton as this would "tense up my pecs and upper back, thus making it harder to breathe", but that is nonsense and it just left me with shoulder aches and an awkward running form.

James Joyce, "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man": "I ran as a proper runner with my arms down at my side" That's probably the only thing I remember about that book. It would have been a funny sight to see haha.

“What Should You Do With Your Arms When Running?” If one is blessed with two upper limbs: the more powerful the backward movement of the arm (so long as the arm never crosses the centre line of the body) the faster one will run [so long as one leans forward from the ankles]. Stay Safe. Be happy!

I gave myself tennis elbow by running long distances carrying a heavy water bottle in my hand - I advise against it. Been 7 mths and it's only just starting to heal.

I've once seen holding your arms behind you as you run be described as a more aerodynamic form. Won't truly figure how true that is without going to a wind tunnel.

I've never really known what to do specifically with my arms when running, it's something I guess you don't really think of when you're always moving your legs haha.

I thought you weren't supposed to bob up and down when you ran.
@markthrelfall35774 жыл бұрын
Excessive bobbing isn’t ideal. Most elite runners have a small bob as they leave the ground. I’m simply jogging along in this one, and maybe looks exaggerated from the angles. I’ve never considered myself someone to bob up and down
