His Majesty's Tenth Regiment of Foot in America is a historically re-created infantry unit formed to portray the service of the British Army during the American War for Independence.
Composed of three types of soldier, Grenadiers-typically larger men who are used as shock troops, a company of Light infantry, generally smaller, more agile men--capable of maneuvering in the dense wilderness to skirmish or flank the enemy, and a battalion company--a company of regular soldiers, capable of mass volleys and were the heart of the army and are trained in both Grenadier and Light Infantry tactics. We also have a company of Music, who provide music and commands to the army. Last but certainly not least, a Corps of Civilian Volunteers--who provide food to the regiment during encampments and accurately portray civilian and camp life of the 18th century. Each is open for recruitment. The members of the Tenth are accurately uniformed, equipped, and trained in 18th-century military drill and life so that we appear in public as members of the British Army would have in 1775. That was a very nice video! Just sheer boredom, I imagine, would've been a real issue for soldiers who had to be stationed in one place for extended periods of time, which is why commanders would've wanted their men to always be occupied with some kind of activity around camp.

Interesting , the 10th which became the Lincolnshire Regiment was my grandad's regiment. Obviously much later in time. He joined in 1896 and was at the battle of Omdurman and Atabara. He was stationed in Malta, Egypt, Sudan, India and ended overseas in South Africa before returning to England. I have a photograph of their regimental recreation centre in Egypt. You may find this interesting. A hobby soldiers of that era practiced was needle point, it was small, and weighed little. The family has one of his projects, crossed flags with various battle honours.

No Grandad came from a poor family with only a grade 3 education so overall he did not know much in the way of history of the regiment or history in general. Grand dad died around 1970(he was born 1878). What was interesting was to get his view of the world and his actual experieneces. A couple of examples. He spoke of the further expedition up the Nile to meet the French at Fashada and a cartoon that showed a British soldier at a dinner table with charatures of the Mahadis and the French. The caption was was "we dined on devishes at Omdurman and this must be desert" He also spoke of the effects of Maxin machine guns. He said you could see little puffs of dust going along a horse as bullets impacted it. If you are interested in off duty lives of later soldiers there is a book full of actual pictures of soldiers off duty in the 1800s called The Lincolns by John Benson. On page 80 is a picture of two supposed hunters the standing one is of grandad. He is also in the group picture on page 77. I have the original pictures and others. The men of the period were not the cardboard characters people often imagined. For example some wore metals on the right side of their jacket these were for temperance associations they belonged to. In Canada although not the tenth, the earlier forms of hockey were played by British soldiers. The Britiish of the time of the revolution and later were a vibrant society and by far more than others set the stage for the modern world with art, industrialization and technology.

Was there American recruits in the British army? Also have you ever experienced anything paranormal on a reenactment?

Yes there is documentation supporting loyalists serving in the British army! As for paranormal activity, we are sure experience differs by participants in the hobby.
