Honestly my main problem with the portal is with how it does its remote play, because it functions like other wifi only remote play solutions such as xbox's remote play or something like parsec or moonlight for pc. Meaning that it will end up having the same problems that the others have with things like increased latency or stuttering due to short drops in wifi connection. Compare this to how the wii u gampad works with how it has a direct, no interference connection with the wii u itself, leading to practically no latency at the cost of a shorter range. Imagine if sony had done a hybrid design with these implementations, with long range wifi streaming and then a short range wii u gamepad like connection for a no compromises, zero latency experience.

Bog standard BT like the kind they put on most phones has too much latency to comfortably play games. To get the kind of latency that is acceptable for playing games, you need to use specific BT codecs like APTX LL or Adaptive. Those are proprietary and Sony would need to pay licensing fees to use them. It might even require qualcom hardware, but I can't find information on whether it is hardware or software based. @Burn_In_Oled_On_Purpose Жыл бұрын
@@riptaiyoUnless sony decides to go digital only and than later on they changed there mind and want to remove the digital games that people already paid for like they already do with the digital movies. Going digital is just licensing fees being sold to consumers instead of the manufacturers paying the licensing fees and anything with digital. You don't own anything digital since it can be removed and taken out completely even when you already paid for it. I play games on pc and the games I use to play on steam was removed from steam and I had to buy the physical copy on consoles in order to play the games that was removed on steam. The same thing could happen with an only digital console. The digital only console is just e-waste and paperweight when they are discontinued and stopped being supported and when a manufacture wants the consumer not allow access to the digital content and by removing the digital content the consumer already purchased they can already do that since it's a loop hole with anything digital. It does not make any sense to keep something when it's a digital version when its discontinued and not supported. I can still play my ps3 games even though it was discontinued and stopped being supported. The same thing can't be said with any digital whether it's video games, music and movies. Movies and music have drm which restricts access to the consumers. By allowing physical media the consumer has full control. When companies go digital they have full control of there consumers and they can abuse the flaws that comes with anything digital and it's already happening with music and movies and almost everything has turned into a subscription service. When someone buys a physical copy of a cd, vinyl record or a physical copy of a 4k movie. It can't be removed due to licensing issues like anything with digital. With any form of physical media, the manufacturers don't have control but the consumers have control. It benefits the consumers not the manufacturers. I wanna be able to own what I paid for even when it stops receiving support and have control over what I paid for instead of the manufacturers having control of what I paid for. Digital is convenient just like fast food such as mcdonalds and burger king. I hate the idea of own nothing and being happy about it and than with subscriptions services prices always increasing. When I pay for something once with any form of physical media. I don't need to pay for a subscription fee when I paid for something once. I can play the physical media anytime i want without paying for a subscription fee since it's free to play since I already own what I bought. When I bought the digital version of games on steam and than I have to go pay for it again with a physical copy, it's not a win win for consumer but a win win for the manufacturers and brands. For example, when bluetooth headphones batteries degrade and stopped holding a charge, you have to throw them away since the batteries are not user replaceable and bluetooth headphones are another form of e-waste just like a digital only game console and are planned obsolescence. I have a drawer full of bluetooth headphones that stopped holding a charge and the batteries need to be replaced. My wired headphones have even out lasted my bluetooth headphones. I have wired headphones that are user removable and user replaceable and even more affordable than any pair of decent bluetooth headphones. I went back to wired headphones since there are so many benefits with wired headphones. Wired headphones don't have batteries that needs to be replaced when the batteries degrade throughout prolong use. Wired headphones have superior sound quality compared to bluetooth headphones and don't rely on an app to work properly compared to certain models of bluetooth headphones. Certain models of bluetooth headphones rely on an app to function properly and can be bricked intentionally by the manufacturers with an app with an over the air update in order to sell as many pair of new bluetooth headphones to as many consumers as possible every year. The airpod max relys on bluetooth and batteries to work properly since there is no way to turn them off completely since there is no switch to turn them off and on when they are not being used. I use the headphone jack all the time and I use my micro sd card all the time. I don't pay for any streaming services. I still watch live tv from the dish network app and I only time I stream is unless I can stream for free otherwise I stick with physical media and buy my physical media. I still buy cds, 4k, blu ray and dvd movies. I rip the cds and store my music locally on my micro sd cards and listen to my music offline without needing an internet connection. It's why I bought the sony xperia 1 iv android phone since it still has the headphone jack and micro sd card slot plus it has the 21:9 aspect ratio with it's 4k 120 hz oled display.

I can understand where Sony's coming from on the remote play angle... from a development angle it's pretty much putting all PS5 games on a mobile platform with no additional development cost. Part of the issue with the Vita had been the development costs associated with developing for a separate sku, splitting development resources, and having Switch platform outselling them and having their entire team dedicated to a hybrid console. PS5 made the business smart decision to focus on their console.

The problem is what games would it play? @@RebuildandRenovate I have a RoG Ally. I love it and use it to remote play both my XBSX and PS5. The problem is Sony needing to develop for another platform and slipping resources with it. A Developer can only work on so many games at a time and ports aren’t a trivial amount of work. I would prefer that since they’ve already decided to port some of their games to PC to instead work on a launcher for their PC releases that let’s you earn trophies, cross save, etc.. That way, the Steam Deck, RoG Ally and any portable PC becomes a sort of 3rd Party Playstation Portable without having to worry about creating games for it or spending money to R&D portable system that could go towards creating more games. The world has a delusional and unhealthy obsession with depending on the internet. It is a finite resource. Even if everyone had "THE FASEST" service; it would still cuase congestion, fropped connections and lag; then forcing companies to "upgrade the service" to provide a small window of time, where you qould have stable service. Gaming needs to offer permanent offline solutions to play games l, using the internet as a supplemental, once in a while option and not the main way to play. It's effectively meant for couch gaming away from the TV. Want to sit in your backyard and play some PS5? You can do that. Want to play a round in bed? You can do that. That sort of "game in your home where you want" has become pretty big in recent years, and the steam deck is another great example that fills the same niche. However unlike Valve that can get away with cramming a dedicated PC into the shell Sony wouldn't have been able to do that as easily. Making the PS5 run natively in a mobile format is impossible and a new successor to the Vita would be too expensive. This is pretty much the best they could do given their current hand.

Just one of the reasons google failed in the gaming sphere. If plenty of companies are putting out handheld PC's than Sony can definitely try to make a PS handheld with their milliions more dollars, they're just scared. This thing is gonna flop and I feel bad for anybody willingly streaming their games when they could just go in another room to play it. @@TheFondalizer Getting a good wifi connection in your backyard isn't hard. You either just have to place the router in a smart place or get a cheap second one and extend the network. As for handheld, Sony could certainly offer a PC handheld, but it would eat into their branding if it's PS branded but doesn't support any PS games. If it's android based they'd have to cooperate with the phone division and that one has been irrelevant for half a decade now, and carries the same branding issue. And if they make an actual PS handheld they need to invest heavily actually making games for that thing, too, which they don't want. So do we know yet if this can be used anywhere with Wi-Fi or does it have to be on the same network as your PS5? There are a ton of conflicting reports online. The PS Blog article only talks about using it at home. No mention of playing it anywhere else.

The device can be used anywhere there is Wi-Fi. It says so on the official PS page. I believe they are just marketing it as an at home accessory which makes sense

Can't you connect your Bluetooth headphones to your ps5 and then use the remote play on thay PS Portal? I know that it wont work out long distance though
