what students at st andrews really think about halls: first year accommodation!!

helloooo everyone and welcome back or welcome if you're new! my name is miranda and I'm a third year IR and English student at the university of st andrews in scotland! today, I brought in some friends of mine to talk about all the different halls you can live in your first year, and how the application process works. apologies for the delay in this video, but I worked really hard on the editing so I hope it's worth it! please let me know if you have any questions and any suggestions of other vids you'd like to see xo

Hi Miranda, I'm coming to St Andrews in September 2021 and was wondering if you knew what halls have disabled rooms? As I'm in a wheelchair, I know ABH has some, but I lowkey dont really wanna go there as from what I've heard it doesnt seem like I'd enjoy it. Love partying, but I really dont vibe with dark/gloomy residences, so I'm hoping there are others I could apply to! 😂. Thanks so much for your videos by the way, they're super useful especially since we cant do in person tours at the moment. I'm sure if there aernt I'll still really enjoy my time at St Andrew's!

I left st savator’s hall and moved out due to too many puerile snobby Yaaahs ( failed Oxbridge English public school types) and moved to Russell’s international student’s hall which was great but far from the city center.

I’m applying at the moment and there’s a sort of personality quiz to see where I’d be best suited. I’ve said that I have an interest in drama and music etc do you think that’ll put me into a specific hall? Do they each have specific ‘personalities’?

I love watching your vids!! I was wondering if it would be worth it being catered since I'm a vegetarian too. Secondly, on the uni's website they've mentioned the Whitehorn Hall, so I would like to know if its a good community to be a part of in terms of hall events etc. Thanks!!

Apparently they offer many more vegan options now in halls so I think you’d be fine, especially if you tell your halls in advance! I don’t know a ton of people who’ve lived in Whitehorn bc it’s so new, but I can try to find a resident and ask them about the community aspect of the hall xx

Syna Singh the community in whitehorn is great since whitehorn is paired with uni hall! defo recommend going catered even if you're vegetarian - i'm fully vegan and it was alright

If I’d like to live in McIntosh or sallies, do you recommend preffing a single or a double? I worry about losing the chance to live in a good location.

I think I would probably go for a double then, but it won’t guarantee it! There’s just significantly more single rooms in the majority of other halls so that may give you a better chance xx

for sallies I put catered standard shared so I would say that's your best bet!! xx

Definitely! You have a smaller Sainsbury's just 1 minute away from Sallies, then Tesco around 5 minute walk away, and 30 minutes away you have larger (and cheaper) Aldi, Morrisons as well as M&S :)

William has an en-suite and he made sure that every other person on the corridor also had an en-suite as he wanted it to be fair

Yes don’t worry!! I just had trouble finding people who wanted to be on camera 😂 a lot of people do like ABH and say there’s a great sense of community! The rooms are also really nice, I’ve been to a few of them!

As an arts student I honestly think you can’t beat St Salvators! I’m a little biased obviously but the hall is literally a 30 second walk from most of your classes in the Quad so it’s a fab location! xx

If a shared room for 2 is for example 6000£ does this means that each of them pays 3000£ or it's just for 1?
