This is the biggest mistake apple made with that headset. Allowing people to think it was aimed at the VR market. It never was and especially not VR gamers. It was supposed to be taking market share from the Hololens or Magic Leap. Everything about their stated use cases and dev kit points to this being an AR headset primarily and a XR headset secondarily. But apple in all their hubris thought they could release the hardware then users and devs would flock to it to build their use cases and apps for them.

@@cameronwilliams3092 Agreed. "Never" is a very strong word and not appropriate here. A good caveat is if you are an enthusiast of the field or product. I got the Oculus DK1, DK2, then the first Quest when it came out, because I love the potential of VR and I wanted to contribute to its development. And while I feel a little burned that Oculus was bought by Facebook, I don't regret it. I still contributed to the development of the tech, and I got hundreds of hours of fun out of it. As always, think before you spend and don't just buy stuff because it's fancy and new.
@Telhias2 күн бұрын
I wouldn't even call it a first generation product. There were many generations of VR headsets before Apple's. This product didn't really pioneer anything in the field. It was simply a product failed from the start. Apple tried (and failed by cutting corners) to make the highest fidelity headset for the highest price. That is already an extremely narrow target audience. They did that and then didn't offer them enough functionality to stay. Apple had spent on it more than enough money to develop some interesting apps. How about face recognition overlay with your custom notes floating around the person in question? How about giving it ability to recognize famous people showing a short summary about the person scraped from wikipedia? That would've been cool, futuristic and engaging enough to make users want to come back. You could make an app where people around you have a filter applied to their person. Make your fellow enthusiasts look like their designed avatars (I am pretty sure that the furry community would be very interested in that). There are plenty of ideas of cool apps that could be made if they wished to. iPhone was a first generation product and it succeeded. It's business plan was perfect. What killed this product was not being first gen but simply that you had no reason to use it beyond a gimmick that is fulfilled by much less expensive competition.

Within VRChat communities, there were several Twitter fights over this turd. Some hyped the crap out of it, some (like myself) saw 0 potential in what was obvious $3.5k paperweight. And the ones defending it were saying "well it's not for consumers it's for developers to make apps for the consumer version!", but even they went silent after a month or two. The only time I saw anything about it again since the release, was that someone sideloaded app on it to use it as PCVR headset. With that same two hour battery life. Same as what you'd get from something like Quest 3 for like 1/7th of the price. Oh and you still needed Valve Index controllers (or HTC ones), external tracker to attach to AVP to have tracking in VR, and at least two base stations for tracking controllers and tracker.

The potential with Vision Pro is related to what it does for the industry, not the product itself. Everyone knew this was a dev device but the fact that it exists pushed meta to fix their software and compete. For example, Apple claimed 3d spatial video, and meta responded with the same thing. Now I can use my iPhone to record spatial videos. Meta had to update their hand tracking and pass through. They had to update their lens software for better blacks. Apple claimed that you could look at your Mac and instantly bring its content into the spatial world, Mets responded and now has Remote Desktop built in which does the exact same thing for windows pc. I bought a windows pc in part of this. Apple will continue to make headsets but it’s not a shocker they discontinued this one.

The 2 hour max battery life and the recharge time are by design btw. What a lot of people don't realise is that your eyes need to focus on objects at various distances for proper function. If you set your eyes to a fixed depth for more than 2-3 hours at a time you can cause long term damage to your eyesight. Having a 2 hours battery and a rest period are good things.

@Jorge78712Күн бұрын
@@Carman_Voice_of_Distortion I see your point, but I believe $10k is quite a hefty investment for anyone, especially when there are cost-effective alternatives available. As a senior web/mobile/VR developer, I can earn $10k in a month, but it’s still a significant amount, particularly considering the Unity Pro price. For many indie developers, creating apps on other platforms can be done for free or at a minimal yearly cost ($0-$100 a year). You are right, though, that without a solid customer base, no one will want to risk $10k per seat. This is for early adopters.

Exactly more apps will be made if more consumers buy the product, because the devs have a higher chance to make money, but because theres nobody using it why would anyone develop for a dead platform? No adaptability, meh graphics, and lack of content or a real metaverse, so I returned it. I think the best part was either SIM racing as a headset, which doesn't work great, and the best app was Google Earth. They need to make it a screen for PCs at a much-reduced price, not a standalone $3k unit, or go with AR and make it look like normal glasses which will have a much lower adoption rate. It shouldn't be an iPhone replacement, it should be an addition to the iPhone.

People esp girls want to show off their iphone. Thats why a lot of people buy iphone instead of android. 3. Even if it sucks and lame, its still in people’s nature to showoff, knowing that its expensive. You can see some comments in this vid saying that “they own one and people who hate it just people who cant afford it” See? 4. I agree with you that, “what it does” matter the most. But if you only use it in your room alone (because using it outside lame), that it will be more productive than 3.5k pc. Only thing that apple vision does and 3.5k pc cant is 3d for movie or games and any VR glasses can do that.

Doubt we will get to Nerve Gear levels of immersion off the Neuralink, but I would love to see that kind of VR headset in my lifetime. The thing with headsets is that you have to put them on your head. The quality is not the problem, the price is not the problem. Even if you made these to be the best ever and handed them out for free, after a few weeks everyone will stop using them. The mere act of having to put it on your head, having to charge it before hand and pay attention to battery, or having a cable attached to it, make it a very unattractive product. Apple invested more into the headset than any other product they've ever made. Its not going anywhere. They will release many more headsets each one cheaper than the last and they'll do a worldwide at scale release for the next one. People will wear ski googles on their faces if it gives them the ability to be at a cinema instantly or have virtual people in your room talking to you. @@Averymindset a cheaper headset being available doesn't mean there won't be a more expensive one above it. We know that Apple have done the deals with manufacturers already. So there's a fairly good idea the next headset will drop the glass and front screen, possibly go from metal to plastic, 2 processors down to 1. All aiming for a sub $2000 price. But this is Apple. Even a barebones $1500 model could end up being $2500 once you add enough memory, storage, battery packs, deluxe strap etc. And no one knows yet if they'll make a standard, pro and light model. Pro and light seem likely if the next one sells as that maps onto their current lineup of computers and tablets.

Apple Vision Pro: the headset so forgotten it’s probably collecting dust in augmented reality too.

The apple vision pro was never for everyone, it was for people who wanted the latest tech and be the first adopters. Why do everyone keep mentioning that 3000 is too much? Its not for the avergae person. The next ten years it will get smaller and the price tag will accomplish for the massess

I maintain that VR is extraordinarily fad friendly. Its staying power is measured in sprints, not long runs. And it always comes back in a decade to some new tech

It’s like when Google released those glasses, technology isn’t far enough so no need to rush!

00:20 "Everybody was talking about it" Were they, I wasn't. I think the only people talking about it were the ones paid to talk about it.
@SuperRedNovaDragon2 күн бұрын
People were talking about it up until the price was revealed and then nobody cares anymore

I'd pay 3k if it was anything similar to what's in the movie ready player one

To get anywhere near that, you'd be looking at a matrix-style interface. The neuralink is more likely to lead to that than any of the companies selling face toasters.
@jayluc192 күн бұрын
@@furious_melons674 True, but this should be otw of being made. The omnidirectional treadmill should be the easiest to make. The Neuro links or interface should the hardest to be done

4:40 Nah man, not even close to being built off the iphone. The iphone is quite literally stolen design, it's built off of Nokia 770 and its predecessors (Such as 7710 and Communicator)

One review I saw described it best: In the presentation video for it, NONE of the presenters talking about the various features were ever shown actually wearing it.
