The family of Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old EMT worker killed in a botched no-knock raid in March, has agreed to a record $12 million settlement with the city of Louisville - one that will include substantial, lasting changes to policing, including the mandatory use of body cameras during police raids. Mistake implies, that they would admit to being wrong and work to get better. This is not a mistake. This is not misconduct. And this is not excessive force. It is murder, plain and simple. No, they did not find evidence of drugs in her home nor did she have any prior convictions of anything drug related. Her ex boyfriend (person of interest) is the reason she was in the warrant because a package in _the ex's name_ (confirmed not drugs) was delivered to her house (without her consent). An outside independent investigation concluded that Brianna should have never been served a warrant in the first place. So yes, this women is indeed a victim. Bad taste in men doesn't warrant someone's execution.

I've read enough to believe that Breona Taylor was heavily involved with her boyfriend's drug selling, and perhaps tragically, at best, she was killed accidentally in the exchange of gunfire initiated by her boyfriend. If that is the case, there is no criminal intent by the officers, it's a tragic and horrible mistake. The city is simply settling for that, knowing that in today's climate, they could potently lose several times more by a vindictive jury; and the family knows that the city could potentially fight it and delay the suit for years.

@Latoya austin That's why I stated "at worst" case, Breona was mistakenly shot 8 times. If you're in close proximity to a person shooting at the police, you're probably going to catch a few bullets. They are justified in firing back when fired upon, and they're not going to fire one time, wait to see if the threat was stopped, fire one more time if not, wait to see again, etc. They are going to fire several times, until the threat is stopped, especially when raiding a trap house.

LMAO have these kids chanting Breona's name ever been to or seen a sports game? They're CLEARLY using a taunting tone, NOT a supportive tone. The rise and then dip in their tones is completely inappropriate, there should be an inflection at the end of her names. Instead, they're taunting a dead woman.

And the department isn’t paying jack. The city or county is. Say good bye to teachers and sanitation.

This was their plan all along. Do not charge the officers involved. Issue a settlement to the family that is completely inadequate. Attempt to paint themselves as honorable and respectful of her life. In essence and in reality these officers and the police department and the city got away with murder

To many don't focus on the policy changes. I am not foolish about that the police is really willing to make change.

Her life for $12M people keep saying this as if it's bad... 99% of all people in this comment section will never be worth $12M. It's a good price and shows they know they did wrong!

So basically, this nice girl gets involved with drugs and gangsters then she was fired from her job as an EMT because a dead body was found in a car she rented for her gangster boyfriend, then she gets caught in the crossfire during a gunfight between the police and her other gangster boyfriend and tragically dies. And... now her family gets paid? WTF?

The real question is how will we all come together to create reform. Every other statement is in vain and not addressing the need for change. This just shows how powerful the people united can become.

While her family is absolutely entitled to every penny from the settlement, it doesn't change anything. That money is coming out of taxpayer's pockets while the officers who murdered her STILL walk free. The taxpayers should NOT have to pay for the police officers' murder of Breonna. The attorney general needs to do his job.

It means tax payers pay for it.It should come out of police pockets nit tax payers.

It's not enough. No amount of money can buy back a human life. No body should be satisfied until police are held just as accountable for their actions as civilians are.

What about justice? Breonnas family shouldn’t have to choose between money and continued failed investigations from crooked police department. How can we ensure that no one else will be barged in on while sleeping to be murdered?

Don't sling dope out of your house, or let your boyfriend do it, and you can sleep easy.

No nock warrants are bad, but they are ignoring her involvement in drug trafficking. She was no innocent princess, but that narrative has to be pushed i guess.
@ginabraun88434 жыл бұрын
why is no knock warrant being passed when the fact that police did announce themselves. A judge approved that warrant and the police should've followed it AND NOT have KNOCKED.
