@@edsr164 The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland share a border on the island of Ireland. Ireland was once part of the UK for about 120 years and a colony for even longer before that but separated to form an independent state but not all of Ireland left the UK. Part of it, Northern Ireland, stayed in the UK. This caused a lot of problems with everyone who had an opinion of what should have happened and it led to decades of violence. Eventually a treaty, called The Good Friday Agreement, was signed which opened the border on Ireland and removed all border checkpoints to allow people living there to move freely and gave the right of people from Northern Ireland to apply for and receive citizenship in the Republic of Ireland. This was a very long peace process involving the UK, the Rep. of Ireland, the US and the EU and they got all parties involved in murdering each other for the last fifty years to agree to stop the violence. Restoring the border breaks this treaty and has already led to violent attacks and a new wave of terrorist activities. The border has to be put in place if the UK leave as it would then be considered a border with a non EU country and the EU has to maintain it's borders in exactly the same way with all of it's neighbours that it has no treaty with just like every other country does. This is a very short answer but the full one would take too long to explain.

If someone's speeches or actions are illogical or stupid, an unbiased media MUST call them out on it. That's a mistake "fans" make when defending their idols: calling every single criticism "biased", and a mistake some journalist make when they try to look unbiased and find as many qualities as defaults in everything. I'd argue it's quite the opposite: if you know something is bullsh*t and don't say so, you are presenting biased information. All in all, I think you are making quite a good job.

Germany has nothing to win and everything to lose in a No Deal exit. In the short run they are teetering at the edge of recession and in the long run risk losing more faithful EU slave colonies if everyone sees Brexit is successful. Britain, on the other hand has plenty to win in the long run including better trade deals with the US. As a conclusion I don't see how the new commissioner von der Leyen could just let Britain slip from EU's hands and ruin her country without negotiations...

I think the EU has done an excellent job managing BREXIT. They have stayed on message and unified. They graciously accepted the UK's request to leave the EU and showed sadness. The EU is under no obligation to give the UK any favorable terms now or in the future. It comes back to what bargaining chips does the UK have at this time? Two-years on the UK side has made demands that have been rejected while the EU have actually prepared for a post BREXIT trading arrangement (while the UK has simply talked). In the two years since the vote, has the UK prepared their industries to be more resilient?

What amazes me about the whole situation is how entitled and spoiled the UK has been throughout the process, acting as if they will graciously stay if given everything they want, this is to misunderstand the situation, article 50, which the UK not the Eu triggered states that two years after it is invoked the UK will leave the Eu, any deal between the two is secondary.

The remain position was "don't do that", so literally argument has to be about why doing that is bad. Leave had another benefit against the remain campaign in that they had literally no actionable items in their proposal. "Leave the EU" is so open ended that anyone could assign whatever meaning they personally wanted onto it and tell themselves that's what they were voting for. Remain was, again, a non-action and therefore could only argue the downsides of leaving, but with no actual plan there are no points to debate. Plus, whenever leave says something like, "well X popular brexit talking point is bad because A, B, and C" the rebuttal can just be "yeah, well I don't support X, Y is what brexit is going to be" ad-nausium. "telling the poor neglected that the rich may be worse off as well as them isn't a good ploy." Wait, who said that? I live in Australia so I have a view of an outsider and I know it so emotional for all those involved in the UK, but believe me we live under WTO rules and there is nothing “magical” about them. If you resent the EU attempting to subvert your laws, wait until you see what the US will want as part of a trade deal!!!! If you dont believe me look at what they wanted in the Trans Pacific Partnership to which Australia was a part. Scrutiny is one of the most important things that needs to be done by any political commentator, and you're always unbiased in your views. Switzerland have said they would be "open" to the UK joining EFTA - In fact they would benefit the most from it. Norway is the stumbling block, as many mixed messages have come from their MPs about whether or not they would support it. Norway supporting UK membership would come with caveats.

His public comments are for the rest of Parliament and to show that he is still trying for a deal even though privately he thinks it won't happen. So the UK leaves with no deal, gets to keep most of that £39 billion, and can start to agree trade deals with countries around the world. The EUs share of world trade is shrinking. Areas like Brazil, India and China are where the real growth will be in the next few decades.

Whatever overhaul the backstop and May´s deal will experience in new negotiations, it will still necessary to navigate the new deal through 28 governments and many parlaments. Most european countires would have to organize a parlamentary majority, just like the UK. But all that efford contains the risk, that the Commons will reject it. How often european and british politicans can afford to push for a compromise, explain it to their opposition and sceptical citizens, who very often think that the Britts should be kicked out the EU w/o further ado? Any alteration of May´s deal, any accomodation of Johnson, who ridiculed and insulted europaen institution a million times, would boost the anti-EU-forces, especially on the right side of the political spectrum. These guys are complaining about a weak and treacherous EU anyways, predicting the downfall of Brussels in favor of "old elites" and to the detriment of "the people". Sounds familiar, right? So the EU can simply not afford to come Boris´ way. On many levels it´s too risky. For my home country Germany I can tell you, that any movement towards Britain would be recognized as defeat, would strengthen anti-EU resentment and undermine the authority of our national government.

The deal was not negotiated between the EU and "his predecessor". It was made between the EU and UK. The UK has second thoughts and isn't prepared to stick to what they agreed to. The fact that the reason for this "breach of contract" is that Parliament has downvoted the deal is an internal matter (national) and not relevant on the international stage.

If the EU are insistent on the fact that the deal on the table, which parliament have stated clearly three times they won't pass, is all they're offering then to me it seems to be them who don't want a deal, in which case, the only way we can leave is without a deal. Putting our main focus there is therefore quite sensible. Should they choose that they're willing to renegotiate we can, but they have completely unrealistic expectations if they think parliament would ever accept the deal on the table unchanged.

No deal brexit would be illegal for 2 reasons. 1st: It would breach the Good Friday agreement which is an internationally legally binding treaty signed into international law by the UN security council. 2nd: The withdrawal agreement (voted into British law by parliament 3yrs ago) specifically states that brexit can only happen in circumstances that prevent any border infrastructure. I'll just add that the £39 billion owed to the EU is legally binding although the amount owed has decreased to roughly £32billion because Britain won't be leaving until at least October 31st.

The GFA does NOT say there cannot be a border in Ireland. Think about this. If, as you claim, it does then why does the EU need the backstop at all? What would be the point if the GFA already said there cannot be a border? Why demand it in a new treaty if it is already in an existing one? I suggest you read the GFA. It is freely available online, technically called the Belfast Agreement, and isn't that long. It barely mentions the border at all, and doesn't mention border posts at all. It talks about 'reducing' military installations, but border posts are civilian not military. Secondly, that £39 billion is not legally binding. It is part of the WA and even Michel Barnier said that until and unless it is fully ratified by both sides it is meaningless. Parliament rejected it. Three times. It is not remotely binding. Since the deal has not been ratified the EU will not be honouring all the things it promised in that deal, so why should the UK be forced to honour parts of it? The EU cannot cherry pick bits of the deal it likes and demand the UK honours those while ignoring everything else including the promises they made in the deal.

However because you didn't leave in March and won't be leaving until 31st October the figure which you would have owed for the extra few months gets taken away bringing it down to £32billion. However leaving without a deal means that theoretically the eu could decide that no deal includes the original £39billion and go after the uk for the full amount

If you think about German reunification in 1990 that was hardly welcomed by all, but the idea that west Germany had just said no is pretty inconceivable. Financially i'm sure the EU would sweeten the deal with extra funds

TL;DR, consider using Secular Talk's way around the demonetisation thing. Avoid using trigger words in your titles. Make notes on what is and is not included in titles when demonetised and try to work out a pattern. He uses accents on the letters of trigger words. Instead of, "Brexit", consider, "Bréxit". It might look stupid, but it definitely worked for him. I also don't know if Brexit itself would be a trigger word, but anything that might be controversial to advertisers does tend to get demonetised. Keep up the good work and if I ever see an demonetised video, I'll be sure to click another of your videos to watch the ads and let you get paid!

Johnson thinks the EU needs urgently that 39 bln. cooking them hot to have best condition for UK only. I wouldn't subscribe that because EU has to make sure that condition being a member of EU is better than not to be a member of EU. This is fundamental regardless about what money they talking about. Also a no deal does not remove that 39 bln. which is not a gift from UK to EU but a bill from several commitments UK made. The risk of a bad performed brexit is still higher on UK's side than to the EU where the risk is additional devided among several states.

The contributions to the EU budget for the seven months since "brexit day" needs to be deducted from that number, meaning the hole in the budget becomes smaller (8.7 billions for the 8 months to the end of the fiscal year instead of 16.3 billions for 15 months from the end of march). And as TL;DR said, there are things included in the exit bill the UK has to pay no matter what.

You are super-analyzing it. UK is not legally binding to pay it's share of £39 billion if the people decided to move out in the referendum, even if it goes to court, who's jurisdiction of the judiciary that will hear it? UK or the EU? . The moment the referendum is implemented by October 31st, that funding share of UK cease to function, and no payment can be demanded onward. Yearly, UK had been paying its due as the Brexit hadn't materialized yet, but come after Brexit, EU has no right to demand payment, simple legal statutes will prevail.

To be clear the worry isn't that no trade deal is agreed by accident so much as the entire intent of the backstop is to make it so the EU doesn't even need to bother negotiating an FTA. It's a fairly clear tool for keeping the UK in the EU permanently.

I think it is very wise of TLDR to try and not be super critical of Johnson. I watch TLDR because I have found it to be a very impartial news outlet and facts are portrayed as facts. I found some of the recent content to be a little more critical - almost as if there is a little Remainer bias. I am a Remainer personally but want the most impartial and balanced news I can find with facts to keep my mind open to all possibilities. I feel like many people like TLDR because of their middle ground approach.
