The Ancient Mayans had a mysterious and fascinating culture about them. Their art, spirituality, and designs are especially interesting, and we find many parallells in teachings to other mystic traditions the world over.
This cosmic civilization has so much to teach us, and one of their many lessons is that of the Hunab Ku, a curious glyph which appears to be very similar to a yin-yang. In this video, let us explore it's symbolism, and see what wisdom we might glean from it.

Babe you need to read a damn book and try doing some genealogy to actually CONNECT with your relatives. You ARE Yucatec, nobody “disappeared”. This channel presents Mayans under the “magical negro” trope, which is ridiculously offensive to indigenous people. Try looking it up, learning about your history FOR YOURSELF and from a REPUTABLE SOURCE, not watching a ten minute video put onto KZbin by a vile charlatan looking to collect ad revenue off spouting pure bullshit

As someone who is from the maya people I have one question…why didn’t you mention the Popol Vuh? It tells the maya creation story, why we play an ancient ball game, why we hang up corn, what the underworld is like. What the Gods of the underworld are. What God created humans, what came before humans. You can debate and argue back and forth about what they meant by this, but to leave it out entirely leaves out part of the maya beliefs.

@@monitomayathe book would offer intellectual origin. At this point it most definitely feels a rewrite of a people's history, especially if you don't refer to their actual recorded texts. @@SpiritverseOfficial hint: the OLMECA wasn’t their actual name. It’s a Nahuatl name given to them (likely by the Mexica [meh-she-KA, not “Mexic-a” like modern day English pronunciation of Mexico] to refer to an ancient ancestor group who’s name had been lost. OL-MECA breaks down etymologically as, “OLLIN + MECATL. Ollin being similar to movement, and mecatl which means rope. In this instance, the rope is used to refer to lineage. Thus, they (we) were named the people of movement lineage. The “movement” has been argued to be something like earthquakes. None of these words just are. They all mean something. Even ATLANTIC is argued by some to be Nahuatl… but I digress. Let me know if you’d like more information! Happy hunting!

There is a interplay between here and there. Material and subtle. The underworld. This is not only extremely important in world religions until Abrahamics got big. The Aztec, Maya, most Americans, were obsessed with the underworld. Not just religiously, like totally obsessed. Saw a jaguar eat someone? That's the underworld poking into the material. The birth of a new life? That's the underworld interacting with this world. You don't get to be instilled with this framework and not filter the world through it.... Especially if you live in nature

If the symbol is Aztec why wouldn't you do a deep dive on the Aztecs!? The Aztecs were the ones who the colonizers brutalized, the Mayans were pretty much only in Guatemala/Cancun and more south (they were around Tikal), whereas the Aztecs found Teotihuacan (biggest pyramid in North America) as an empty complex, who built it, they don't know. Cortez (one of the colonizers) used the tribes around the Aztec empire to fight them and bring them down. Like you said the Mayans were a thriving civilization hundreds of years prior to the European colonizers arrival. I'd suggest Patch try this video again from the Aztec p.o.v. :)

@@SpiritverseOfficial yeah I’m a big fan of Aztec culture & I’m Mexican. I always find it fascinating how cultures so far apart by distance & language etc can come to the same conclusions of the nature of reality. really shows you that we truly are all connected.
