When I was an exchange student in America and we learned about the colonies, my teacher told us that while there never was a romantic relationship between John Smith and Pocahontas, they did meet. She then proceeded to write on the whiteboard "John Smith really did pocahontas". Unfortunately accidentally leaving out the word "meet". Fatal mistake in front of a class of teenagers.

The real-life Pocahontas never really saved John Smith, actually. She was twelve years old, he was middle-aged, and her father, the chieftain, was holding a ceremony to welcome Smith to America and convert him to a member of their tribe. In this ritual, Smith was supposedly "killed" and then "reborn" as a member of the Pamunkey. They acted out this whole ceremony in their native language, and Pocahontas simply acted the role of bringing Smith back to life as a Native American. Of course, Smith had no idea what was going on and thought he was about to be actually killed (instead of pretend killed) and thought that Pocahontas actually saved him instead of just playing her part, which is what he went on to tell all the other settlers.
@princenadroj97665 жыл бұрын
Pocahontas was also kidnapped and sent off to England where she was, raped and became pregnant before being forced into marriage by her captor, she also had to change her name and religion where she lived under her new Christian name “Rebecca”. Years later Rebecca (Pocahontas) had fallen ill and died without ever seeing her father and tribe again.
@theboxoftea91125 жыл бұрын
Because I can't stand repeated historical falsehoods, I'm going to way in. There is NO historical evidence that Pocahontas was either raped or kidnapped. Most of the circumstances around her life are uncertain, but the earliest thing that mentions her being raped is in a 2007 book that supposedly came from an oral tradition. Any mistreatment of Pocahontas, who kind of became an unofficial diplomat, would have gone against the interests of the English in their negotiations with Powhatan. Her conversion to Anglicanism and marriage to the Englishman John Rolfe (who, from a transcript of a surviving letter asking permission to marry her, actually really loved her) helped end the First Anglo-Powhatan War. Her travelling to England was just as political - as a sort of success story of the Virginia colony.
@aaronlandry39345 жыл бұрын
Zolenge B. Pocahontas most certainly did save John Smith. Chief Powhatan was about to execute John Smith with a club by bashing his head in with it, but Pocahontas, whom had saved him and the Colonists from starvation and was a regularly visiting friend of their children as well, placed her head upon his. This was not a welcoming ritual. She did this, because she claimed to have had a dream vision of her saving John Smith. It is because she was so trusting of John Smith that the Powhatans began peacefully communicating with the Colonists. They made treaties and began trade, but Chief Powhatan proved to be too aggressive in the long run. It’s truly a shame that he did not value Pocahontas more than “old swords, pieces, or axes”. Had she been Chiefest or if Powhatan would have listened to his daughter, things would have remained peaceful.

questions: THREE QUESTIONS 1. Why is North Korea making Pocahontas if they hate the USA? 2. How do they even have money for animation studios in a dictatorship? 3. Does North Korea like Italy if they're working for Mondo TV?
@matchalatte54155 жыл бұрын
Your answer is at 2:56
@cdcdrr4 жыл бұрын
1. Because USA is white people who killed the natives, who lived a communal lifestyle. So, North Korean logic goes : natives opposed US imperialism. We oppose US imperialism. Therefore we should be friends with the Native Americans. This warped sense of logic also had some in the nazi party idolize the native Americans despite their notorious racism, and think they'd find common cause, only for the Sioux to beat the USA to the punch when it came to declaring war on Nazi Germany. 2. Because we in the west are very good at outsourcing menial tasks to impoverished 2nd world nations where labour is cheap. It worked for China. And it's not like North Korea has any scrupples. Who's going to tell the Party they're wrong to do so? 3. Because Italy doesn't have the same mutually sustained hate-boner North Korea and the United States have for eachother.
@Killjoy453 жыл бұрын
@@cdcdrr "Because Italy doesn't have the same mutually sustained hate-boner North Korea and the United States have for eachother." Well, it's not as much talked into media, but Italy was one of those who sent troops to fight North Korea during Korean war. Italy and North Korea opened diplomatic relations in 2000, however in 2017 Italy expelled North Korean ambassador and their ties are pretty much non-existent at the moment. I actually find it rather strange that North Korea seems only to hate USA and only USA, when there were alot of countries that fought against North Koreans during the war. Maybe North Korean propaganda simply pictured all UN soldiers as yanks, because they just made the perfect opposite for them.

Whelp 1. Because they have no original ideas 2. They do, but also if you look closely the graphics are horrible 3. Still, no.
@Esplodiamoinallegria3 жыл бұрын
1. They mostly hate white USA and see natives and blacks as oppressed fighters and possible allies (not so theoretically weird if you ask me) 2. Why not? Both Third Reich and USSR had animation departments and studios, USSR ones being the most developed and artistically accomplished 3. Yes. While the majority of Italian Communists didn't particularly appreciate DPRK/NK's deranged brand of communism, some Communist factions and splinter groups did so they established ties with Kim Il-Sung and NK cultural departments, even inviting party cadres or traditional ballet dancers to Italian Communist festivals

From a Native American viewpoint: It was Tecumseh who tried to unite the tribes to fight the Colonials. There also 6 Nations of the Iroquois (there would be 7 but the Cherokee moved south); Mohawk, Oneida, Seneca, Onondonga, Cayuga and Tuscarora. If we Cherokees had stayed, we would have been Oyatageronon, the people who lived in caves. And why oh why did he hire the same guy who played the dad from the Titanic animated movie. I give it points for realism, but it is not for kids.

Well, historically speaking, Native American tribes were no more buddy-buddy with each other than European nations were with each other. They had different languages and belief systems, fought wars between tribes, and all that good stuff - long before 'the pale face' came along. You can put a river or you can put an ocean between em, but humans will still be humans.

Let’s see - Inca, Aztec, and Toltecs do conduct imperialism and militarism. - Native Americans in North though. They tend to be 50-50, where “peace” usually means less raids and skirmishes than usual. - also the lack of common language, which the Pocahontas understand let along initiate talks.
