As a dental nurse me and dentist I work for would always ask our patients to reconsider getting veneers when they don’t need it. It’s totally ok if you want to do it so you feel better for yourself. But the thing is - nothing is better than the natural enamel, your natural theeth that you are born in. Grinding down that enamel is something that you can’t undo. Also, ceramic veneers won’t last you forever. Neither do composite fillings or crowns, so you will have to get them renewed someday, which means grinding down a little bit more- again. I thinks it’s lovely that you get to feel better with your new smile, but from a professional view I am sad that people feel the pressure to have your teeth get grind down.

Thanks for mentioning this I’m considering the clip in veneers more so my dentist said I would be a good candidate for veneers because I’ve grinding my front teeth down to where my two front teeth are basically the same length as the ones beside them and it’s making me so self conscious. I think I’ll just go with clip in and save my actual teeth.
@RommyShhh3 жыл бұрын
@Anna Rhecca Agustin maybe the shape could be enhanced and the gap be closed with composite! The enamel would not have to be grind - if you ever heard of the singing dentist, I believe he himself has gotten “composite veneers” (I’m not that good regarding the correct English terms and you could get a picture of what I mean)- a much More gentler way for the enamel
@RommyShhh3 жыл бұрын
@@aubreyodom468 if that’s the case, maybe get a second opinion from an orthodontist (braces), because your interdigitation (I hope that’s the right word for it - like the way your upper and lower teeth should “connect”)could be off; since misaligned teeth could be the reason for the tooth’s substance to be grind down. And then after that veneers could be a good choice in your case specifically :) that way veneers would also last longer since they wouldn’t be under so much force
@its_msk4 жыл бұрын
This is what is sad. 15 years ago you would have never thought about your teeth not being perfect or would never had had a concept of being unhappy with them. Its social media that subtly gets it in your head that you need that "Hollywood smile" I'm glad you're happy but let's be real. This is all from subconcious pressure that we need to look like celebrities or other influencers.
@its_msk4 жыл бұрын
@@mj-ix4pe there is a direct correlation between advertisement and dissatisfaction with our appearances. Social media is just another form of modern advertising. That is my point. The average young person did not spend thousands and thousands of dollars on things like veneers even 10 years ago. It is all relevant to our society. More advertising of a certain desired look, the more it is accepted as a "must have" for young people. This is why even more so now influencers or make up manufacturers can ask hundreds of dollars for a product and they will get it whereas 10 years ago it would look crazy for a young person to be spending that kind of money. Yes, people can be influenced by their peers or family but who do you think influences them in the first place? I never argued that people cannot do what they want. Of course they can. My point stands that we are more and more dissatisfied and social media is a major factor.

I got mine at 61. I had been waiting since I was a teen. I always had strong teeth, but there were discolored by antibiotics as a teenager, and I suffered from bruxism (tooth grinding) in my sleep. That, plus years if martial arts without a mouthguard meant my teeth were chipped, stained a gray-brown, and getting smaller (especially in front). I consulted with a cosmetic dentist in my fifties. The number of veneers I wanted cost the same as a compact car, but was worth more to me. I saved the money and got them over a decade later. The boost in self-esteem, especially smiling, was amazing. They look great. I still wear a night guard to protect them. Here are the things I have found no one told me. Porcelain veneers are hard, but the glue is not as strong sometimes as your jaw, especially if you chew hard. Some hard foods, like crispy bacon, certain chips, hard chocolate, hard beef jerky and anything sticky (e.g., taffy, milk duds, hot tamale candy, etc.) can pull them loose just as with a crown. Some places in your teeth receive more pressure than others. I have one side veneer, a spot where I press under stress, that lives to come off. The last time it came off just from using a water-pick . Fortunately I have never swallowed one. Biting into apples is a no-no, as is anything like chewing ice (not recommended for real teeth either). What you never hear about are the foods you have to give up: hard crunchy foods and thick sucky foods that pull at your teeth. No hard crispy bacon, no hard chips, hard beef jerky or any hard chewing. You can also suffer minor gum infection if they have to replace the fronts of many teeth. That may require low dose antibiotics. Your dental hygiene must be good. If you have bruxism, you still need a night guard when you sleep. Sometimes they will come off if the glue is imperfect. Be ready for it. Molars that come iff are not so bad, but front teeth are hard to hide while you wait for an appointment to re-glue it. I never heard about that beforehand. Other than these irritants, I have been completely happy with them. The veneers actually changed the shape of my profile by adding tooth area that had been missing due to my bruxism. I had to do 2 years of Invisiline to prep for it because I did not follow instructions the first year. But having full size white teeth (the first time in my life) has been well worth it. I smile now. I rarely did before. It was costly but it solved several problems and helped my self-esteem where my teeth were concerned. If you only do the front teeth it is no big deal. Because I had some many done, upper and lower, I did two 3-hour sessions of tooth shaving. I felt no pain but the grinding noise went on forever. I was blindfolded and listed to soft music. Your gums will be inflamed and it will get better for a few days. But the end result is amazing. You can smile and feel proud. You can look Hollywood. The good outweighs the bad. But there are foods you must give up and you may occasionally have to have them reattached or replaced, which is not cheap. In the set I’ve had in the last 4 years, I’ve had one veneer reattached like 5 times because it is at a critical bite juncture. Just wanted to disclose the good and bad of my experiences with them. The good outweighs the bad, but nothing is perfect.

It’s your money to do with what you will, and I’m glad you’re happy with the results, but a lot of the things you said about what fed into your decision (comparison to people around you, insecurity about your appearance in general, unhappiness in other areas in life) will still exist in the future, and often won’t *really* be able to be solved by a physical change or by buying something etc. All to say: you invested a lot into the physical change, and from your other videos you invest a lot of money into your surroundings, so you may also want to consider investing in the mental aspect as well since you have the means to do so. I mean that all as a positive suggestion too - I’m a big advocate for feeling good about yourself, but it’s often much easier for people to try to wallpaper over deeper insecurities by doing some retail therapy or something, when in reality the wall underneath is unstable and is really the thing that needs some TLC.

Yes! And dentists LIE about this! I was told that shaving down your real teeth to nubs was the "old" way of doing it. They don't do it that way anymore. I was told that putting veneers on was the same as getting acrylics on your nails. That just like they shave a little bit of your nail, they'd shave only a little bit of your teeth down and then the veneer is just an overlay. NOT TRUE! My temporary veneers split and broke the first day I had them. I saw my teeth underneath and I looked like Sloth from the movie The Goonies. ( you younguns have to google the movie, lol) I almost cried. It was too late. I had no idea how much of my real teeth were filed down. 2 weeks later I got my veneers. They look okay. I'm happy enough. But I don't love them. I don't think I'd do it again. The thing is I originally went to the office looking to get some bonding on my teeth because of the gaps. I got talked into veneers that they were better. I wouldn't talk someone out of getting them. Just know what you are getting into. Also 4 months later, my teeth are still sensitive. I was told two weeks. The dentists of these things are definitely salespeople. So buyer beware.

@@stevenmackey7416 Not really an easy fix tho. For some people, teeth are just naturally genetically more yellow - since enamel thickness and transparency is the main reason why teeth look white. Some people have less of it or have enamel that is more transparent, which exposes the dentin layer behind enamel, and that's yellow coloured. Hence the yellow teeth. I got veneers in the early's 1990 to correct slightly crooked front teeth that turned dark from root canals (face injury). Flash forward 10 years and I was getting horrible migraines and TMJ. First step neurologist. Second step orthodontist. Third step was 4 years and $5,000 of invisalign, Red, White and Blue (similar to Invisalign) and a permanent brace behind my teeth. Evidently, if the veneers are too thick, your lips can push your other teeth out of alignment. Ugh! No worries, I'm getting 6 veneers next year - just thinner ones. The dentists learned what not to do when I got them. Enjoy! They look awesome!!

to anyone watching this that isn't comprehending... The enamel of your natural teeth is something you cannot get back - ever. NEVER EVER. All veneers will have to be replaced, and considering an age as young as 25 - they will have to be replaced multiple times throughout a lifetime.... it's.... as a dental professional, I could never treatment plan this for a 25 year old.... The most heartbreaking part for this situation is that her teeth look, visually, the same as they did before... only whiter and with no enamel. and now overly exposed to the dangers of caries, fractures. consider this: always chose a dentist that fabricates ON SITE - so that you can adjust shades and see them prior to having them cemented. NEVER jeopardize a healthy tooth for the sheer cosmetic appearance - other than what is recommended by a orthodontic professional. not a general dentist. this is extremely costly both to your purse and to your dental health. every dental professional can tell that they're not natural teeth. your cleanings will be more invasive. you will have to have them replaced. all of them... so that's the same cost over again. PLUS more shaving of the natural tooth. prepare for the pain of 'zinging' -- eventually. for every single one of those teeth. it's such a tragedy.. the confidence felt here... will be so short lived in another 25 years.... when it's FULL upper and lower denture time. OR implants..... another super costly option.... you will be spending thousands on your teeth indefinitely for the rest of your life. this dentist.... saw $$$ when this poor girl walked in.... not her best interest. this is proven 100% at the end of the video, when she realizes that her end results are a product of her own creation... not the dentist... which is how it should be. the DOCTOR should be explaining the options, offering advice to her as to what she should look for and what her mouth does when she talks. bless her heart, all that money spent, all that crying and she still isn't happy.... THE DOCTOR SHOULD HELP YOU LOOK FOR YOUR PERFECT SMILE - this is my opinion. how i want to stress to all in the future to do so -- and how i wish you would have had second and third opinions by other dental professionals prior to this decision... WHY DIDNT YOU READ THE POLICIES BEFORE SIGNING ANY PAPERWORK? HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW?!

Two questions! 1) Do you still floss, brush, and get cleanings like normal or is there special care instructions? 2) Is there any kind of follow up or touch ups they will need in the future? Or are they meant to last for life? I want veneers so bad because my teeth are so tiny, so I’m really thankful for this video so I can know what to expect when I eventually get them!
@helenadaher26194 жыл бұрын
Hi!! I have veneers and I have them poorly done before and changed them this month with a decent dentist. Yes you still need to floss everyday (you just won’t be able to floss when using the mock up) and visit the dentist regularly (twice a year as you usually should do). When veneers are done the RIGHT way they are supposed to last for at least 30 years according to studies made in the 90s. Since then the techniques improved so dentists predict veneers should last 40 years at least - again, when they are done by a dentist who has studied and has practice to do them. For instance, I have paid 6,000 Brazilian reais in 2019 for the trash veneers I had and my gums were so swollen and red and the color was so yellow everything was terrible. Now I paid 22,000 Brazilian reais and they’re just perfect. The color, the size, my gums are healthy, my teeth are healthy and everything else.

I got veneers when I was 18, almost 20 years ago 😬. At the time I was told they last 10 years but I still have the original veneers with no problems. They have yellowed a bit over time and there's no way to bleach them (it just won't work), but overall I think the key to success is a good dentist and being careful not to bite with the teeth with veneers. I know people who have had them break or fall off. My only regret/concern is if I have to pay to have them fixed or replaced. When I got them it was about $1000 per tooth (and I didn't have to pay because my mom worked for the dentist). I honestly don't know how I'd pay to replace them now.
@voliet64824 жыл бұрын
Erin M so even after you have the final ones you can’t eat normally? I’ve had awful teeth my whole life, even when I was a child and my adult teeth came in they were pretty yellow to start with and I thought there was something wrong with me, but evidently that’s just genetics for you 🤦♀️
@erinm29364 жыл бұрын
@@voliet6482 I can't remember how long it was painful to eat. I'd say a few months but maybe years. but I'm talking about things like biting into an apple, which I was specifically told not to do. you shouldn't be chewing with your front teeth anyway. maybe i should also note, you typically only get the front teeth done. I have the 4 upper front teeth. If you need major straightening or have other issues top and bottom, there's probably a more appropriate option than veneers. as for yellowing, I don't know if my teeth are genetically predisposed go yellowing. you can still whiten your natural teeth, but you're not supposed to whiten the veneers because it won't work and it risks damaging them.

I know others often say “but your teeth were perfect already”, they don’t understand how a small adjustment to your smile can literally bring you huge amounts of confidence. The ability to smile with confidence is undervalued. So go you for saying “f them” and doing what you wanted. I did the same thing and honestly, even with the temps, I’m glad I did. Your teeth look great! The finish looks so natural. I had to get crowns on my front 6 teeth, so similar to veneers but different. My old teeth were totally worn down and not white at all from root canal treatment years ago so smiling before having the work done was getting more embarrassing. Took 2 weeks for mine cos they did the imprints and got the teeth made so quickly to the right shape and agreed colour with temporary ones bridging while we waited. My temporary ones were about to break by then so phew! It is all about your confidence showing your teeth and the function of them. Good on you getting yours done! I know mine hurt so much when they cut the old teeth down but they were hurting every day anyway and now they are pain free. It does take time for the teeth to settle down but it goes gradually. Enjoy the new ones.

@@jennybon999 I love them! Going from painful, worn out, discoloured teeth to natural looking, functional and now very comfortable teeth has been a turning point. Being able to choose the colour, shape and to an extent length of proper replacements is life changing. The bonus is the protection of the crowns means they finally feel like normal teeth again, no electric shocks any more. I avoid sweets and apples as i dont feel confident to risk them so it had made me much more careful not to abuse them. I have been lucky to have a good dentist who guided me through the process and find the best choices and i had a reasonable idea what i was after. They even managed to get ride of the gap between my teeth braces couldnt fix so that was a blessing for how i talk as well. It definitely gives an appreciation for the dentists and what they are capable of these days. The technology is fascinating.
