Thanks doctor for the informations. A year ago, I slept 3-4 hours only, my doctor advised me to use melatonin, didn't work. Later I was diagnosed w/ sleep apnea. Now I'm using mouth piece guard, I sleep better, still late but get my 7 hours, sleep between 12:00 -1:00 am, goes to bathroom at 4:00, go back to sleep 'til 9:00. I'm retired, just happy I sleep better now.

Melbourne Australia. I have been in Australia for 38 years. Freshly retired . I sleep when ever I can. Never make my bed. As I have done shift work all my life in Australia. At 77. I am healthy. I go to doctor to talk about the weather. No joke. I am always happy and feel confident and healthy . Thank you for sharing the good advice . After all it’s not one size fits all , my wife is more by the schedule . I have a nap by 12.30 pm for one hour . I listen to my body despite my wife yapping nonstop .😩Jose from Australia

I’m going to try this beginning tonight…the reason is only getting 3 hours of consistent sleep per night, sometimes only 2 hours. My nerves are compromised and I get sad, and angry easily and over eat at night. Also am up 3 to 4 times to urinate. I’m so glad to find this video. Thank you and I sure hope it works. I do get sleepy at that time (9:30-10:00) but thought if I went to bed that early I would awaken at 4:30 or 5:30 a.m. which is a foreign hour to me. I don’t care I’m going to try it anyway. I’m 82 years old. Again thank you!
@WisdomAdvice.803 сағат бұрын
Thank you for sharing so openly; it’s not easy dealing with such challenges, but your determination to try something new is inspiring. Going to bed when you feel sleepy is a good start, and even if you wake up early, it might help your body adjust to a better rhythm. I’m wishing you restful nights and peace of mind-please take it one step at a time. You’re not alone in this journey!

I’m 72 yrs old and I’m from an island in the South Pacific called Samoa . I go to bed consistently around 9-9:30 pm and wake up anywhere from 3-4:30am. I work as a volunteer nurse daily for 6-7hrs and I do a lot of walking so I thank God for the strength He has given me for all these years that I worked as an RN in America and now I assist my own people to take care of their healths. That’s where I get physically fit with spiritual strength to keep me going every day to live longer and to help others. And by the way, I use the bathroom too like twice at night. GOD bless us oldies!!! Love you guys/oldies.

Me, too. I. am the same age, suffered from insomnia for years until I decided to follow my body’s rhythm. I can get 7 hours good sleep with a few toilet visits and if I go to bed at 7.30 when I feel my body telling me to I also get 7 good hours sleep. I was waking every night after 3 hours with a migraine and unable to get back to sleep until I was given a night time dose of blood pressure medication which worked.

Mb Canada where winter is long cold and dark . If I go to bed between 9 and 10, I am awake 3 hours later! I never have trouble falling asleep but in recent times I wake up in 3 hours. I found out something recently that said if it is trouble after waking up and going back to sleep, the problem is cortisol not melatonin . So the difficulty is not the circadian rhythm but the stress response. I agree about the cortisol but the only thing that has worked is the suggestion made to take something with fat before going to sleep so that the cortisol cycle is muted . So when I take a couple of tbsps peanut butter before bed I sleep through my 9 hours without waking no matter what time I go to bed. However I have not been consistent with it so time issue is still sporadic and it is circular so don't know which is cause and which is effect. I never felt old until covid hit and more recently 2 falls. I am 78 and until 75 had a farm to run. Now everything is messed up because my sleep is. So I sleep when I can as long as I can ! If I sleep well and get 9 hours I am fine and if not I am a wreck .
@WisdomAdvice.80Күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience so thoughtfully. It’s fascinating how managing cortisol with a bit of fat before bed has helped you improve your sleep-it’s a great insight that could benefit others too. It’s tough when life changes, like COVID and those falls, disrupt what used to work so well. You’ve shown remarkable resilience, especially after running a farm until 75! I hope you find more consistency in your sleep soon; it sounds like you’re doing your best to adapt, and that’s truly admirable.

I am 91 and I found that my days, that are very busy. end with a good night's sleep, such as the days when I am doing my laundry, which includes changing my bed linen, and including them in my washer and dryer. I was shopping, this morning, and then spending some time cooking food, this afternoon, to eat on Thanksgiving day, tomorrow. I've been living with my daughter, and several grandchildren, and my daughter had to work, today, so she will be doing the rest of the cooking, tomorrow. I was able to pick up dessert, today, which also helps. Isn't life wonderful! God bless all those who are able to get together with family, and friends, during this holiday, here is the Dallas, TX area.

I’m over 80 now and have inoperable lower back issues with pain meds needed daily. I go to bed between 8 and 9p.m. sleeping in one position. asleep after 15-20 minutes, waking sometimes only after three or four hours but mostly 8 hours. Proper diet and medication are helping controlblood pressure., prediabetes, balance ......quietly in my head I count backward from 300 to 0 by three. nothing can sneak in or the count is lost and we must start over, mind gets diverted from issues and repetition of prayers or favorite song lyrics in my head send me off.

Thank you doctor, I'm 80yrs, from Colombo, Srilanka. During my working days I used to go to bed around 10:00 p m everyday and wake up by 05:00 a m or before that, because according to my faith, I have to perform a regular prayer everyday before sun rise, and I feel fresh. But these days for the last ten years or so, my sleeping habits are changing because of browsing social media. As such my bedtime is changed 12 midnight and I feel tired to wake up early and fresh. Thanks for your advice and experiments for the sake of we elders. I plan to follow your advice and change my sleeping patterns at 10:00 p.m . Thank you very much.
