Solid video. Only other thing I would advise about is the actual model itself and what generation it is. Newer generations come with hundreds of improved and upgraded parts like 12k half shafts, differential coolers, stronger idler and pitman arms, ext. which may need to be replaced or will wear out quicker right out of auction if its an older model (early 2000's and before, or high mileage on gen 3 and below). Most people think all HMMWV's are the same which is not the case. Gen 1: M998/M1097/M1045 ext. (1984-1993) 6.2L, 3 speed, most common components will need replacing (idler, pitman arm, ball joints, tires, bearings, ext.) They've likely sat for decades neglected in the elements. Can get them privately owned from $12k+ Gen 2: A1 series (M1097A1,ext)(1992-1993) Not many produced. Some improvements from Gen 1. Gen 3: A2 series M1045A2, M1123 ext. (1998-2005) MOST COMMON ON GOV PLANET (M1123) Gen 3 is the absolute bare minimum you should by unless they are giving it away. The 6.5L and 4L80E Transmission are critical and will cost you more to install aftermarket than included in the purchase price difference between an A0,A1 and the A2. The 4L80E is a must have and the cost of parts and install is around $7,000 alone. The 6.2 to 6.5 engine is basically no difference. 6.2 reliability is reported to be better, actually. Basically the same engine with minimal torque and HP increase. Gen 4: ECV Series M1167, M1165, M1151, M1152. (This is preferred) (2006 - 2011). Easily identified by the extended nose, 80mph spedo, factory A/C, tachometer, Wilwood brakes ext. First to feature the game changing 6.5L Turbo engine. This is worth some $$ (around $5,000 - $8,000 for parts and install. and it TAKES OFF. Massive upgrade and makes on-road drivability much more feasible and enjoyable.), factory AC (another $2500 - $3000), many upgraded drive train components, 12k half shafts, much better cooling, LED dash lights, improved everything basically. The M1165's commonly come with hard tops (with built in turret support and delete cover, making adding a turret a drop in, no need for the rare 10xx b-pillar turret support) and the iconic hard curtain. Add X-doors (if not included) and you're set. If you want a hard top, want to keep it cool inside, get less wet (yes, you will always get some water), or want a turret, this is the way to go: $7,000 4L80E $3,000 AC $2,500 Hard Top $1,000 Rear Curtain That's an extra $13,500 right there. And it wont be the correct roof or back for an ECV. Impossible to get your money back out of it. Decide what you want before you buy. Cheaper to buy with correct add-on's at auction. Gen 5: REV Series M1167A1, M1165A1, M1151A1, M1152A1 (2007+ REV-B Serial Numbers 300,xxx+) Best HMMWV AM General has to offer. Reliability Enhanced Vehicle Everything the ECV series has and a massive upgrade to cooling (now drive train geared fan drive, not hydraulic), cooled differentials, upgrade to drive train and wear components, 24 bolt rims factory stock, parking brake enhancements, air lift brackets, ext. Know the generation and value of what you're looking at in auction. An M1123 can have a value difference of $30,000+ compared to an M1165A1. Decide what features matter to you and compare the price to aftermarket add-on's to determine what they are worth to you. Military correct is the name of the game for value, aftermarket is always valued less in resale. Private vs auction - will your state title a HMMWV? Will you have to go through Utah/Vermont for title and tags? Is that a big deal to you? (Looking at you, Cali). Hope this helps some. HMMWV models and pricing is nearly never talked about. Know what you're buying and bidding on!!

Great vid. I would add the following (from experience) in reference to the 4 speed (4L80E) transmission specific vehicles. When GovPlanet inspects these vehicles, they only drive them around the yard, not out on the highway. They ONLY guarantee the transmission shifts 1, 2 and Reverse. The M1151A1 I bought would not shift out of 2nd gear. The way to figure this out is by the videos attached to the auction page. Look at the transmission malfunction light in front of the shifter. When the start switch is in the "RUN" position, engine off, the yellow TRANS light should be on solid. If it isn't, there is a problem, either with the light itself, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or some wiring in between. With the start switch in the "RUN" position, engine ON, the light should be off. If it is on, there is a problem; either with the TCM, wiring (connections if you're lucky) or the transmission itself. Be careful. Fortunately for me, it was a TCM issue and the transmission didn't have to come apart or be replaced. If you've already bought the vehicle, there are some great vids on youtube on how to jump the A and E ports on the connector and get the blink codes out of the module to help diagnose the issue. forums.g503.com also has some very useful write ups.

I watched this before I bid on my Yermo Humvee and it was extremely helpful. I got a great M1123 for $12,800 with doors, a top, and troop carrier top. The tires looked great, but had some flat spots from being stationary for so long. You’ll undoubtedly need to buy new tires.

Oh wow. Its so cool to see the new humvees for auction right now. Was part of the earlier buys for humvees, purchased back in 2014 when the first few batches of them came out. Have a m998 from SC with 35k miles on it with the 6.2 and 3 speed. Its been a great truck and it was mechanically sound. Got surplus hard doors and did a good cleaning of the inside and flushed fluids as well as got an airlift bumper for it as well. Been great to me!

I found it odd that you refused to say what blow by is. I'm sure you have your reasons, but I don't know what they are. Engine blow-by is when combustion air and fuel leak through the piston rings into the crankcase, usually due to worn piston rings or a damaged cylinder wall. Check for it by removing the oil fill cap while the engine is running. Smoke coming out like it's an exhaust pipe equals blow by. I think I explained it faster than the time you spent saying you weren't going to explain it. Glad to help. 🙂

The 3 speed hydramatic trans in the older ones really isn’t that bad to have. I know from personal experience that they’ll cruise 75 mph plus with a healthy 6.3 engine. It’s a much more simple design than the 7.5 with over drive. Many 6.3 models were remanufactured after 9/11 in Kansas and reissued for quite some time through 2015.

The difference between a 6.2 and 6.5 is not even noticeable (if they are both running strong) and the 3 speed is emp proof, 700r4 upgrade makes it better than the factory 4 speed. Rarely would you see 5 stars when only 4 are available:) Somebody touched up the paint with a rattle can in under 10 minutes...and that unit has been completely repainted....its not the original paint...and the pedals have paint on them overspray all over the vehicle. The engine only fire up instantly if everything is good...fuel....glowplugs...pump...etc...this motor is a reman that has been painted. The tires and rims are even painted...My advice dont fall for the paint....find one with original paint and look at every pic closely....at the end of the day buying a used vehicle is a gamble, particularly if you can not test drive!

Actual price out the door is 13,920 after state tax and Richie bros buyers fee, always figure that extra 20% as you bid. After winning the bid, you get to do the EUC (end users certificate) always a lot of fun, 2-3 months on that.(that is your title release from the government, you cannot license a government vehicle without it) Most of these vehicles have sat for quite some time, most have bad batteries, 2 huge 12v batteries set up to run 24v . Best to buy the quality military replacements, Usually need at least 2 new tires, hunt those up local or e bay. Now some of the communist states will not issues titles because they do not meet emissions , some not a problem. All that said, these Humvees are really great off road, for the price their hard to beat. NEVER buy any military vehicle without a title, no MVD will issue title on a (Bill of Sale) anyone trying to pass that load of bull on you is FOS.
