I was having brain fog , fatigue , nasal congestion & sore muscles. Quit taking statins after finding out that these are side effects of the drug and decided to eat healthier and get more exercise. Those side effects have gone away and I feel MUCH better.

I exercised daily. All day, every day. Took 10mg of statin. (Cut a pill in half). Dr switched me to avorastatin. Joints & muscles started aching. To be honest I ate grapefruit too. I quit both. After a couple of years on ruvastatin the aching is going away. Statin is the only meds I take.

@@jackfanning7952 I have found around where I live, all of the 'doctors' are big pharma drug dealers. I also found out if I go to another doctor, they have what I say to one doctor on their computer as I speak to them and they have made up their mind before even hearing me. It's scary to hear an almost word-for-word response - team Pfizer. No more doctors, I will take my chances. I can wait 2 months, drive 2 hours, and see someone who isn't so brainwashed. Better off without them is right.

@@billhesford6098 You are right and I have experienced the same thing. I leave one doctor, go to another and they have my interaction with the other doctor on their computer. It all got started around 1910. Carnegie and Rockefeller, who were heavily invested in pharmaceuticals, hired a guy, Abraham Flexner, to go around the country and survey hospitals and research institutions that supported allopathic medical treatment (pills and surgery to correct injury and disease) as opposed to very popular at the time alternative treatment systems like naturopathy. homeopathy, Chinese medicine, etc. These systems treat diseases by providing the body with nutritional, and natural remedies to keep it healthy to prevent diseases. All these systems were on a level playing field back then and patients chose the ones they preferred. Carnegie and Rockefeller spent vast sums of money supporting institutions and getting regulations in the medical field that labeled anything other than allopathy as quackery and not granting licenses to become an M.D.unless you practiced allopathy. The fact that the majority of the highest paid CEOs work for drug companies shows how successful they were.

I have managed to stay away from statins altogether by eating 4 Walnuts a day in combination with Cholesterol Formula 104 - Aged Garlic Extract - Kyolic. (2 capsules). I do my blood test every 6 months. My Cholesterol level has been consistent. Total 140, LDL, 54, HDL, 40. Triglyceride 70 (one cinnamon pill a day reduces your triglyceride tremendously). I am only reporting what has worked for me. Statins cause dementia. I could tell my brain was foggy when I was on it and I immediately got off it. Now, I feel great. Statins for five years, coupled with a genetic predisposition threw me in Necrotizing Autoimmune Mediated Myositis, a rare autoimmune disease caused by statins. I loss use of my arms and legs, have been in a wheelchair for six months and now have twice a month IV sessions with immunoglobulin at a cost of $6K a time to restore what I've lost. Worst health crisis of my life. If you have statins and muscle aches, weakness, get your doctor to run a CK level on your blood Then prepare for an electromylegram, muscle biopsy, and a half a dozen doctors who don't have a clue what is wrong with you and have never heard of this.

My own personal take on it: A close friend who is also a doctor told me (as my parents were aging), "Do not let any doctor put your parents on statins. In all the years I've been practicing, any time a patient has started statins (he doesn't prescribe, but evidently others do), it's a downward decline in their health and then shortly thereafter, death. I've never seen statins make anyone better. Ever." And he's been a doctor for decades.

There are a lot of studies of this, but the data is a bit noisy because severity of muscle ache is very subjective. With that caveat, the studies indicate myalgia reports tangling from 1-10%. Serious side-effects, primarily rhabdomyolysis, are extremely rare, less than 0.1%. On the other hand, the benefits for cardiovascular health are well documented and substantial. In other words, the risk-benefit calculation is very, very strongly in favor of statins.

The big issue is that too many doctors push statin drugs, yet according to research done over a 34-year period (1987-2021) from 21 individual studies, it showed that the reduction rate for strokes and heart attacks was less than 1%. This clearly shows that there is more at play than just bad cholesterol. This study was published by JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). Grapefruit which has sugar and some really nasty phytotoxins? Or "herbal supplements" which not more than a mixture of a large amount of toxin plant compounds? Used for alcohol making... my gallbladder gave me more trouble right after surgery now I eat what I want in moderation.. almost.. noticed foods are more spicy lately now that will give me some problems.. I hate it when they do that.. older people thats a no no. Most of them anyway.. The names he gave out I wonder if they were brands. I need help. Protected my heart clogging up. Thank you for the info. I have been on Coumadin (warfarin) for the last 14 years and rarely have had a good lipid profile. After a month of taking statins, I was experiencing myalgia, drowsiness and inflammation in certain joints. Until I spoke to a friend, who also took statins, they also had some of the same effects, however, they mostly experienced migraines. I spoke to my DR. and have been put off statins for 3 weeks to a month, and will start another type (brand). I just wanted to thank you for an enlightening lecture, for I never knew that warfarin itself could possibly contribute to the problems. I will try the new medication within a month or so, however, if it comes to quitting statins or warfarin, I'll chose the statin: for twice in my life I have had pulmonary emboli twice within a ten years period, and must keep my INR between 2 and 3. I will discuss this with him should the same side effects start to occur. Thank you.

I'm almost 55 yrs old and I'm taking a lot of different medications for several health issues, I have been concerned about this for a few years now. I had a heart attack around 10 years ago, a stent put in there - prescribed statins for that and did take Atorvastatin for probably 9 years...I have since stopped that drug after hearing lots of bad things. Watching this and the other statin-related videos have been a big eye-opener for me. Post heart attack I've also been using constantly Metoprolol 23.5mg, Cilazapril 500mcg and Aspirin 100mg. I was also diagnosed with epilepsy around 20yrs ago after several small petit mal seizures where I simply found myself drifting off very briefly whilst say typing on my computer, I then would immediately have a weird metallic taste in my mouth and the one thing that really stood out with this type of seizure to me was memory loss afterwards, I would notice it a bit later, people told me my eyes briefly rolled back during an event, these small short-acting events would happen maybe once every 6 months or so only and I found myself losing LOTS of memory, friends names and some past events were now wiped from my memory and this hurt because many important things in my life are now erased, people would remind me of stuff and I would feel as though they were talking about someone else, not me...all from a small 30 second or so event! (this type of seizure is not the 'grand mal' seizure for those who think of the throwing of the body around etc). I think it's called a 'Petit mal' seizure. Thankfully I've been seizure-free since taking Epilim 800mg daily x 2 for probably around 19yrs I guess now. I halved that level down myself to 800mg once only daily as I don't really eat as regularly as I should and needed to have this drug with food - I must admit I can go without food all day easily and only have the dinner meal. The main health concern that affects me on a daily basis: I suffer from chronic back pain after injuring it at work when I was 22 yrs old and over the years have been on lots of different drugs for it - most of those meds didn't really reduce the pain level for long and would only dull it down a bit, the pain is 24/7 and I'd score it a 12 out of 10 on a pain scale to be honest if I have no pain relief on board which has only happened once in the last 30 odd years. I would always make sure I had pain meds with me if travelling or a public holiday was happening I made sure scripts were sorted so I wouldn't run out. In the last year I have been using a Fentanyl patch 25mcg for the pain - (started on a 12.5mcg but that wasn't for long maybe a week or two) this larger patch only lasts maybe a day and a half and I'm not wanting to appear to the Dr like some junkie who needs more but truth be told I do need either A: a larger patch that might last longer or B: some other drug entirely? Before January 2021 I wasn't even aware of the Fentanyl patch, this has only been a recent introduction for me along with a new Doctor who prescribed it, honestly, initially, I thought it was a real godsend, it actually took the pain away entirely!!! -- this felt like all my Xmases had come at once, finally, I could get on with my life and do things physically more demanding that I have been unable to do before, or so I thought at the time anyway - the patch is a slow-release thing that is supposed to release the drug over 3 days (72 hrs) but by end of day 2 I'm in lots of pain again - combined with the Fentanyl I use Sevrodol (morphine)10mg which is supposed to be for 'flare up' pain but I use it daily spaced out evenly from morning till night - along with that I have Gabapentin 1200mg x 3 daily plus Norflex (muscle relaxant) 50mg x 2 daily. I take the Gabapentin, Morphine and Norflex at the same time trying to space out my hours evenly to get an even pain relief time frame over a day. In this last year, I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism or an 'underactive thyroid' so I take Levothyroxine 50mcg daily for this. On top of that in this last year, I have been diagnosed borderline with Gout so I use Allopurinol 100mg daily for that. (I don't regularly drink alcohol by the way...maybe once a year if that) Speaking on the same subject as Gout I have had kidney stones before and can actually say my back pain is fairly close to the unbearable pain kidney stones produced! This is obviously a lot of medications right - I feel like crap much of the time usually because of my back pain that isn't really under control as much as I'd desire - the last time I saw my Dr he raised the Fentanyl patch size only but I'm sure I need a higher dose still. I found out this is what many cancer patients are given to combat pain - I'm curious as to what size patches are prescribed so I will research this further. This video and the other 2 relating to Statins were an even bigger eye-opener for me about the statins than I realised - I'm glad I stopped taking the atorvastatin but to be honest I have no idea what my cholesterol level is now, I have not told my Dr I have stopped the Atorvastatin - he hasn't noticed that I never requested repeats on that drug (not hard to miss I guess considering how many drugs I take). I am worried my cholesterol might be high as I haven't had any blood tests done for a while (maybe 10 months) - I used to have a 6 monthly blood test and thinking of it now perhaps this was to check maybe the statin levels? Maybe how it's affecting my liver etc? I had a heart stress test around 3 years ago - all good there. I still get angina now and then, now that's scary! One minute you're watching TV then suddenly getting chest pain that's increasing - I use Nitrolingual spray for that but there has been the odd "almost ring an ambulance" scenario waiting for the pain to subside or not... Funny thing is my blood pressure has always been perfect, Drs find that surprising too I think. Anyhow I'm kind of in limbo of what to do now - I will contact my Dr (that Practice has gone through many Doctors over these last 5 years) and at least get a blood test and tell him I stopped the Statin. I'm very curious about my cholesterol levels. If Dr suggests going back to the statin I'm not sure what the heck I'll do, to be honest, these videos have provided me much greater knowledge, I noticed the side effect if one has hypothyroidism and that's a worry for me as something I can directly relate to - I have had many side effect symptoms I think in the past but to be honest I can't say I have noticed either way if I feel better for stopping the statin really. I still feel lots of aches and pains - other than my back pain, I know some can be put down to my increasing age too. One issue for me is concentration - I struggle a lot of the time and wonder if I'm losing my marbles somewhat. Wouldn't surprise me 🤣 I must try to keep positive, it's not easy sometimes and I feel for others worse off than me. If someone can give me some advice that would be great - (if JJ Medicine reads this I hope he could) I have suffered depression in the past and get bouts of it here and there quite regularly, I'm not sure if it's a case for another medication but I would like to avoid that if I can!... I get through however but do break down at times for reasons that are beyond what I can identify specifically, financially like many my family are scraping by during these times, that doesn't help the depression. I own a small business that I've created from scratch, I had to do something or stay unemployed/on disability so I now photograph real estate in my town - photography has always been a hobby, it's not all big dollars either that some reading this might think, it's a small town and I have a small portion of the market, just enough to help earn a living to pay our bills, this is along with my wife's income, of course, she is the primary bread-winner, and because I own a business and I'm not on Disability (like I have been for many years due to my back injury) I am having to pay lots of unforeseen additional charges that come with owning a business - even Dr visits were only $30 before but now I have to pay $80 per visit as technically I'm no longer 'poor' as seen in my country. Trying to get ahead is like one step forward and two steps back it seems. You try to do what's right and get off an unemployment benefit or disability benefit (like the Govt want you to) then they take any incentive to work away from you by making life harder....that's another story in itself!!! Apologies to those who think this was long-winded... thanks to those who might understand and can maybe relate to the health issues I've talked about. Elon - please create a neural plugin that removes my pain for good? 😁 ahh one can but wish...I'll be a guinea pig - just tell me where to sign!

There are studies supporting the claim that certain statins (Lipitor/atorvastatin is the one I recall from a number of years ago) reduce heart disease/stroke. In biochemistry, one has to be careful about “cause”, but there is extremely high correlation and chemical causation linking statins to lower incidence of heart disease that is associated with heart attack. There is no doubt that lower LDL is healthy, and statins lower LDL quite effectively.
@boatsie

@@boatsie Not exactly correct. Statins inhibit the enzyme that is key to producing cholesterol in the liver and thus allow the liver to absorb more cholesterol in the blood, where it can be very dangerous. But the liver will always produce as much cholesterol as the body needs. That’s why it is saggy to focus on the sdLDL even though there are other less worrisome LDL subtypes. Oddly, statins generally have the effect of increasing HDL, the often-called “good cholesterol.”

Simvastatin was what was considered the culprit that started that disaster. Since then I've also had a pulmonary embolism and heart attack, and they won't put dye in me for anything. I stopped the statins for a week due to having run out and experienced increased skin smoothness within 20 minutes of taking NMN, but back on statins I have increased side effects but also the increased energy levels from NMN. It's as if the statin is decreasing some effects, increasing others, but also causing side effects when on NMN. I've already decreased my doseage of statins and I recently took a 10th of the NMN I usually take (100mg instead of 1g) to find it worked better. @@nancyhollo4589 Nicotinamide Mononucleotide. The body converts Niacin into Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) then to NMN which in turn helps to create NAD, needed by every cell in the body. Without it you're dead, but we lose NAD as we age. It reverses cellular ageing. Would have to take dangerous levels to get it from Niacin. Some people prefer NR, I think NMN is the bees knees.

What about the problem of high cholesterol?
@jackfanning7952
@jackfanning7952 2 жыл бұрын
High cholesterol is not a problem. That has been proven over and over in peer-reviewed studies from around the world, The Canadian Nurses Study, the meta-analysis of may studies in Japan, the meta-analysis at Harvard, and others. Cholesterol is manufactured in the liver as a necessary solution to many of the needs your body has, including the most important one of all for people who eat the "western diet." Cholesterol covers the scarring in the arteries caused by inflammation, oxidation and glycation from eating sugars, starches and vegetable oils. Yes there is cholesterol in the plaque in arteries. But the fault is in the sugars, starches and O-6 oils that caused the damage to the artery walls, not the cholesterol in the plaque that is patching up the damage.

"What about the problem of high cholesterol?" High cholesterol is only a problem when it is caused by insulin resistance / hyperinsulinaemia. Stop eating sugar and other carbohydrates and in that setting even a high blood levels of cholesterol are not a problem, but are beneficial. Insulin is what causes heart attack and stroke, not cholesterol per se.

Keep in mind that while some people will experience side effects of statin, ranging from mild to severe, the incidence of side effects is very rare. There’s a danger in trying to generalize from anecdotes. That said, it is good to ask doctors questions and weigh the risks. BTW, the assumption that doctors get “kickbacks” from drug manufacturers never had much credibility, and has none now that all these statins are available as generics.

I have been taking Atorvastatin for about 2 years and just recently i started getting leg and arm pain. So i will get back to this but here is a somewhat condensed version of how i started taking this statin and i am open to all comments as i am trying to determine what direction to go in. I am in my 50's pretty healthy and active. Play ice hockey, walk/light jog on the treadmill for at least an hour. I am also a full time drummer which keeps me very active. So not sure if anyone has ever heard of a company called life line. Its a company that goes around from town to town and tests you as to what your chances are of having a stroke or heart attack in 5 years or more. I am very health aware so i thought it would be a good idea to see how i make out. There was no other reason except being curious. Results come back and it says i have inflammation so i go to my cardiologist. He says he didn't put to much clout in that test but he said you never know and he suggested i take a CT Calcium score test. Turns out the way the doctor described it i have the beginning of a few small plaque deposits and he suggested i take the statin and a baby aspirin. This was all new to me so i went online and saw lots of stories like the ones in this forum and i called him back and told him. He got kind of upset with me and said i hate when my patients read this stuff online. I said doctor these people aren't paid actors and are telling what their experiences have been taking a statin. He said i can't tell you to take them or not take them. So i am the kind of person who isn't convinced easy so i went to another cardiologist and he said the same thing. I still wasn't happy so i remembered my mom had a really good cardiologist so i went and chatted with him. He said he did believe in using statins but also likes using supplements and believes in diet and excercise. So he gave me a stress test, ultra sound of my heart before and after the stress test and a tilt table test all of which came back fine. So here is my question. I hear everyone talking about taking statins for cholesterol. My cholesterol was 170 when this all started so it wasn't that bad. So if you have plaque deposits and a statin is the way the docs treat it what else can you take to keep this under control? Has anyone on this forum had a CT Calcium score test? If you did and found you had deposits what are you doing if your not taking statin? I eat pretty well and do take Ubiquinol CQ 10 200 Mg once a day. I take Acetyl L-Carnitine 1000 Mg, Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 Mg, K2+D3, L-Methylfolate 7.5 Mg, Beet Root Extract 500 Mg, Super vitamin B Complex. I also take Vitamin D. Besides these supplements i take Omeprazole 40 Mg, Fish Oil, Fenofibrate 134 Mg, Amlodipine 10 Mg. I forgot to say the statin is 40 Mg and i take it at night. Sorry for the long post but i want to let you know this is what i am taking so you can give me an honest opinion. Thanks for listening!

Grapefruit is toxic as any plant food. It's just the matter of how much capacity your body has to detoxify... Personally, I'd rather eat meat and animal food only, as animals generally do not need to defend themselves by using toxic substances (there are some excemptions, though)...

No, statin drugs have the word "-statin" at the end of their names such as atorvastatin, simvastatin. Statin drugs are cholesterol lowering drugs. Losartan belongs to sartan drugs together with irbesartan, candesartan, etc. Sartan drugs are blood pressure lowering drugs and famous for being the safest hypertension drugs (having the least side effects), but of course it doesn't mean you won't get any side effects from it, it just means your chance of getting one is statistically very slim with this drugs.

I was recently put on statins because my labs were showing an increase in cholesterol. I had begun to notice an increase in some of the side effects though I didn't know that at the time until I started doing the research. I didn't need all this when I was riding my bicycle everyday and hiking. When my activity levels fell, I saw a rise in in things such A1C and cholesterol. Now I see that "intense" exercise is discouraged. I do HIIT exercises to stay as fit as I can at age 73. The long period of reduced activity due to the pandemic didn't help. It seems like a no win. Right now I'm making diet adjustments but I see no benefit in giving up exercise.
