I'd also recommend a book. It sounds ridiculous, but especially if you have an epidural, you may be doing a lot of "hurry up and waiting". Bringing a book or small project can help the time pass quicker. 😂

I didn’t hear it so… EXTRA LONG charging cable. If you end up tethered to that bed with the bands to monitor your contractions and the babies heart rate you’re not gonna get to move around so you’re gonna want to play on your phone and there’s never plugs close enough to the bed for you to plug your phone in so you need one of those like 10 or 15 foot charging cables

Peri bottle! Particularly here in Australia, it’s not a common thing like I hear in the US. Super helpful. You basically squirt water on your vulva post vaginal delivery whenever you need to wee, and it drastically reduces stinging plus can help keep any tears or stitches clean. Highly recommend.

Another reason for bringing your own water is that IDK about where any of you live but where I live the water is bad enough to make you cross your eyes! I was recently in the hospital and the taste was so bad I couldn’t drink or eat. Coffee/tea were made in this foul tasting stuff so that was out. Any vegetables, rice, potatoes that had to be cooked in, boiled in, whatever other method obviously came out tasting like the water. I managed to get down enough water each time I had medicine I had pills to take so they would slide down. The doctors complained I was getting dehydrated and needed to drink more water. On the last day someone paid attention to me talking about the water and an hour before I left 4-20oz bottles of water came up on my lunch tray. So if you have crummy tasting water, by all means, take your own. I take mine anyway because you never know! The rest sound great. Wish there was all this info when my son was born.

I'm bringing my own bottles and formula next time to threaten to use just in case. My son wasn't latching and the nurses wouldn't give me a bottle all night. Even though they couldn't get him to latch either, they said that I would figure it out. It took a nurse shift change and me becoming absolutely hysterical before my son got a bottle and fed for the first time at 10 hours old. Two different lactation consultant later told me that he would likely never be able to nurse, and 2 fronotomy procedures and weeks of tongue exercises proved them right. They also say not to bring your own medications, but my hospital gave me my prescription 9 hours after they were supposed to. I'm bringing my own and telling them I'm going to take it next time. I'm bringing way more food next time (a full cooler instead of just a ziploc gallon bag of snacks). I went over 18 hours without food (including 8 after delivering) because the hospital refused to feed me despite me begging for food because of the meal service schedule. Yes, I ended up suffering from postpartum depression later and attribute a lot of that to my experience in the hospital, especially the issues with lack of support trying to feed my baby. As a first time mother, it's not safe to assume that the hospital will actually take care of you so you need to be prepared.

Also if you are pumping they have a pump so you don’t need to bring yours. If you are formula feeding they provide formula as well. I had twins in the NICU and couldn’t breastfeed them so I pumped (didn’t get any milk anyways not sure what they do if you do have a supply). While they gave them formula. If you do formula fed ask for extra when leaving, the nurses gave us a lot to take home.

I would NOT wear fuzzy slippers - ypu need them straight out of the shower, and maybe even IN the shower. Definitely a thicker robe, unless it's hot outside. Hairtie, chapstick, hand cream, nipple ointment, hair brush. Pumping equipment (don't forget to wash and sterilize it beforehand), just in case, unless you want to rent the super expensive hospital equipment. Clothes for baby. EAR PLUGS! Sometimes babies cry a lot, ypu can't do much about it, but have to keep tour cool. Soda with sugar in - you may need it to curb nausea and to get fast energy while giving birth. Pregnancy pants, and a stomach compression band - the stomach ramains large and the compressor can help not fewl like everything is falling out. Nipple shields or covers - if it's even slightly cool, your nipples can feel REALLY COLD 😬 I don't even understand the curler wand; curling your hair will be the last thing you will think abojt after giving birth 🙄
