I used to bring chili powder with me from the USA. In Japan, you can find the spices that are used for Italian or French food--basil, oregano, marjoram--no problem. But spices that are used for Mexican food are really hard to find--like chili powder and cumin. I really enjoyed cooking a pot of chili in the winter.

Fenugreek supplements, activated charcoal supplement and magnesium salt after you shower has helped a lot with the intensity of BO just so y’all know! I know Japan’s summers can be INTENSE

One thing I learned about body odor is that you can get rid of all body smell but it requires deep cleansing your body, fasting and removing certain things from your diet.

To add onto the “comfort”/ “small joy” things you mentioned at the end: if you really love scented candles (like I do), they are basically non-existent in Japan (especially in the variety of scents that are available in the US and other places) so I would recommend bringing one or two with you. Yes, they’re heavy and fragile (like the Bath and Body Works 3-wick ones), but a nice scent can go a long way to helping you feel more at home in a new place, and there are smaller ones you can bring if you don’t want to bring a large one. I never regretted bringing them from home and during the pandemic when I couldn’t go home, I shelled out to get some from Amazon US. Worth every cent.

Thank you so much for your videos! I've only just recently found your channel and am so grateful! My Husband just accepted a job offer in Kobe, so we'll be moving later this year and I'm incredibly excited (I'm a Pokémon/Studio Ghibli fanatic :) ). We've been living in Mozambique, Africa since late 2021 and, like you mentioned in this video, I found it startling some of the things I took for granted when home in the US (preferred brand/style of tampons and grape jelly - you absolutely cannot find it here either!!!) I am updating my priority packing list right now. Thanks again for such great content!

Good thing I have olive undertones😸 I have a hard time finding foundations that match me. Cool or warm tones I either look dead or like a pumpkin. I find way better luck with Japanese or Asian foundations

1:35 "You're going to be trying a lot of new food. Maybe your stomach is not going to really like that" This cracked me up 😂 Most Americans just stay away from food that looks unfamiliar. Hats off to you for putting yourself out there and trying a lot of new food.

You can use hand sanitizer instead of deodorant (it kills the bacteria that makes sweat smell). Baby power could reduce sweat and moisture so do use that to prevent sweating.

If I go to Japan, I thought about bringing dried buckeyes. However if Japan has conkers, then they would pretty much know what a buckeye is.

Don't bring a Barbour waxed jacket because on a crowded train, they really smell. Back in the early 1970s, finding shoes that are big enough was difficult. Now, not a problem. Bottom line, if you need it, they've got it. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

In 3 years in Kyoto I completely damaged my hair😨Every day washing in that sticky hot summers with shampoos made for Asian hair and bleach with color made for Japanese hair, I am now doomed. First my curls went yo hell. Then hair stopped growing so I had to cut so short that I look like a man😡😡😡😡Terrible!!! And bring some nice shower gel. Here no soap or shampoo has a nice fresh scent!!! After a shower I still feel dirty!!! Incredible boring and annoying!!
