11:25 When I met my Vietnamese wife 16 years ago, I asked her: “Tai sao la banh xèo?” (Why do we call this dish bánh xèo?). My wife only replies: “Tai vi xèo xèo xèo !!!” 😂👍♥️ (Because it makes the sound “xèo” 😆) And since then, I gave the same example to my students as for the “popcorn”, because pop pop pop !!! 😂👍

Personal anecdote : I once went into a café where a charming asian lady was advertising her bánh mì. Since I neved had the chance to experience it, I ordered one, and while she was prepping it, we got into a ten minutes intense debate on weither bánh mì was or was not loaned from french "pain de mie" (flat bread). I then enjoyed my delicious "bánh de mì" and congratulated my host and lauded her vietnamese cooking talent. That's when she corrected me : she was laotian.

Wow! I just came back from Saigon and Phan Thiet on July 15th 2024. I was staying in Saigon at the Landmark 81 hotel. Why in the heck didn't I see this video? I wish I did. I want to go in a secret bunker. Anyway, I missed out. Thanks for posting Van. Cheers from San Francisco. 😥And lastly Van, I did listen to you on one of your other videos with slang. I said: "U la troi!" to my Vietnamese friends and there were impressed. Thanks Van! Happy posting! LOL One more thing Van, what do you think about taking one of those limousine services from Saigon to another city? Like Nam Hai Limousine? I took one of those and it's really comfortable traveling to Phan Thiet. Just wanted to get your opinion on a limo.

Sài Gòn was an old name which was used before 1975,after this year whole country was united. To honor president Hồ Chí Minh who found the way to unite and rescue country, the whole city was named his name. But for Saigonnese who get used to this name, therefore itis still be used until nowaday

In the U.S. I do 2 meals a day, skip breakfast, mostly due to the lack of time. When I live / retire in VN, I plan to do 5 meals a day [I'll throw in brunch and linner on top of breakfast, haha]. I crossed Bach Dang when they still had ghe. If you don't know what they look like, same wooden boats they used in "Enemy at the Gates," in the beginning, to transport troops, and smaller. There were ferries, but those ran at certain hours. If I wanted to cross Bach Dang at 2 am on a Saturday, ghe it is. And the boats even took small mopeds and motorcycles.

In November/December 2022 I visited Ho Chi Minh City for 10 days. On my last visit to Ho Chi Minh City, I visited the War Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels and People's Committee Building to see statue of Ho Chi Minh. I love history and I was a child during the Vietnam War, so I had to come to Vietnam to see for myself. That house you showed in this video I must go there. My last visit to Vietnam I stayed in an Airbnb and the furniture in that place was a step back in time. You have me thirsty for another trip to Vietnam. Now I am living in Thailand and that is less than a 90-minute flight to Vietnam. Probably will visit Ho Chi Minh City in November of this year for 10 to 14 days. Another thing I used one of your videos to walk across the street and that was an adventure. Take care and enjoy!

06:30 - now our Ukrainian guerillas have the same tactics in ruzZian-occupied territories of Ukraine. We've learned much from our Vietnamese brothers. The main thing is that you can overcome even the more powerful and large enemy, if your struggle is really people's, nation's war. Stay safe, everyone, God bless, and may you and your beloved ones never know what war is.

You know, the winner can rewrite the history however they want. Personally, I don't think people who followed 'dao Phat' in the South were persecuted. I came to the video to see what you're gonna eat in Saigon, left disappointed because I was bombarded with this misinformation. Sure, some people believe, some don't, but pleaese also respect the audience that don't agree (if you truly just want to make videos about life in vietnam, no other intentions).
