Please explain why you would want to move to the downhill side of the trail?..I always move upwards to take the higher ground as a bear will charge downhill more likely than uphill..

CO has the black bear but they are often a reddish brown in color in CO and NM. The actual species Brown Bear only lives in Alaska in North America.

Always buy a bear tag. See bear, shoot bear, eat bear, tan bear skin. Repeat annually.

Never feed wild animals!!! Especially bears your just making it loose its natural fear of humans which nature/God all mighty intended it to have in order to prevent an attack. Your funny and cool moment feeding the bear food and giving it beer might end tragically next time someone else crosses paths with it, the bear will approach that person expecting to get treats and when the bear does that most people will turn and run away out of fear, or slowly back up and God forbid trip and fall.
