FAVORITE farm channel!! NRCS anecdote... New/female/veteran farmer in Virginia. Applied in Oct 22, inspection and cleared to go forward in July 23, ordered and built and inspected for pay in August, received payment in November 23. I did the pay in full option since I saved my lunch money for a year to buy in full. Feb 24 they sent the 10-99 for taxes for the grant. I love my local agents but it is slower than a sloth harvesting cold sap

I work at a micro green farm, and we always prime certain seeds, mainly because of size. Peas, corn, nasturtium, and other larger seeds are primed because soil moisture takes forever to hydrate those big dry beans!

They are rare, but Johnny's has a few determinate cherry tomatoes, and there are a few determinate heirlooms, like Nebraska Wedding. I really wish there was more variety within determinate tomatoes. They are mostly red, which is boring. Carolina gold is a nice yellow determinate, for those interested. If you know of any purple colored determinate tomatoes, please share. Your stale seed bedding tip with row cover is under utilized by market gardeners! I do this with most of my beds!

Just when you think . I learned all ! What a joke , I guess it's a lifetime in the progress of learning . Thank you for the awesome tips . No wonder I failed over and over on spinach, beats, and a few more . But then, I live in a zone that is only late summer to early spring. I can grow these veggies. 😊

8:22 🐈‍⬛🖤 hey, kitty cat. I always appreciate you highlighting low budget, high value options. My market garden is small (1/2 acre) but I've run out of room in the garage for seedlings and don't yet have the budget for a tunnel/greenhouse. Lots of good ideas here to think through. Thanks!

For warming worm beds I used a heat tape. I cut out the thermostat and wired straight. Then plugged into a temperature controller. Work well to keep at 70 deg F

You (and Eliot Coleman) mention other passive ways in your book for soil warming in spring for those of us who want to put less plastic in contact with the soil. Fear of shedding micro plastics and the like. Soil color, so mulch and compost choice. And then for windy areas and small scale a small temporary wind break can impact air temps right above the soil a few degrees.

Concerning your heat cables, those are similar to the heat cables that run along "wet" sprinkler pipes in parking garages. They are used to prevent freezing. Perhaps you could run them under some Pvc pipes filled with water. Though, you'll get a bunch of extra airflow underneath the trays, if they're propped up an inch or so. The thought is to use the thermal mass of the water to retain/distribute heat. Maybe you could do the same thing with bricks?

Regarding the height of the row cover: Assuming you’re sinking them until they’re close to looking like a half a circle, and given that the bed width (the diameter of said circle) is 30”, the height should be the radius of said circle, which would then be 15” high?

In the cat tunnel containing your mud pie seedlings. Are you using the old permaculture principle of water filled black containers, to passively heat after sundown? If so are you having any remarkable results with that? I do have your book, but I am a slow reader.

I don't see how a gothic arch is less strong than regular tunnels, so long as they are braced properly. Gothic arches are better at shedding snow.

Great video but we have to stop calling USDA-NRCS cost share money, grants. This is a reimbursement cost share where the producer is upfronting the cost and then being reimbursed a percentage of the cost. This takes producers by surprise and cause financial hardships.

Many say, "Thank you for your service" to soldiers, who have signed up to advance the elite's agenda. "Thank you for your service" should, instead, be said when one meets a farmer.
