Appreciate this guy posting this video. Rough around the edges, but informative.

I had static in the phone for the last 3 weeks, then it went totally dead 2 days ago. called the phone co. the repairman cam out. checked the box outside. I told him the symtoms. then he asked if I had any protable phones. I said no. Later when it was fixed he told me that it was the copper wire that had rusted and that green rust was the cause of the problem. So make sure the wires and connections are free of rust.

Go outside, open the grey phone box and unplug the little modular connection. This will open your house wiring from the phone company. At this point, plug a phone into open female plug and make a call. If you still have static, 99.9% that it’s the phone company problem. Call repair. Nothing else you can do......

Only two wires controlling my dsl on the outside. They had oxidation on them. I had slow and irregular internet. I disconnect the lines one by one to avoid confusion . Doesn't take much to confuse me. Sanded it to bare metal and placed a bead of solder each wire to coat it and prevent more corrosion and thus have a better connection. Then reconnected. Seems much better now. thank you for the heads up
