I just received a large scoby and lost some liquid during transport, so your video was just what I needed. AND I really needed to see you dump that mat into the jar like that. I didn't realize I could sort of fold it a bit to make it fit into my narrower jar. Thank you!

An idea for a video would be making a few bottles with the “same” flavours just one with juices, one with fruit pieces etc and compare speed and taste? Esp interesting with berries and grapes

Thank you for your videos! I've been happily brewing for over seven months, thankfully found your channel (and subscribed) early on in my process. I recently had three successive batches with mold, finally had a good batch with my last run. I *think* a reason for the mold may have been not using enough starter tea. Thanks for mentioning it. There's always something to learn. Love your channel.

Thank you! I should have watched your video first after buying a Scoby. The seller barely gave me 1/4 cup of starter. I followed their recommendations and added 6 cups of tea, but after a week, I had to discard it because mold was floating on top of the tea! I bought another one, hoping that it will work this time.

My SCOBY is almost 2 inches thick..... Should I split the pellicle? I thought about doing 2 being vessels but I don't need that much kombucha. Nobody wants it because I give them ready made bottles, why do the work themselves? 🤣🤣. I feel bad just throwing it out. Is it Vermicomposting safe? I would assume so. My worms would love it.

Is it possible to make kombucha completely from scratch? Without scoby or a bottle of raw kombucha? I'm brand new to your channel, if you have covered this, please link it to me? Thanks ever so much

I have been growing my own scoby from a store-bought bottle of kombucha (raw, unfiltered & unflavoured) and it's definitely grown a scoby but after a bit I noticed the growth really slowing down and it's been about the same thickness for the last few weeks. Does anyone have some advice on what to do? I'm thinking maybe if I use the method of increasing the amount of starter tea that's mentioned in this video then maybe "feeding" it will give it the boost it needs to keep on growing. Or possibly adding another bottle of the same kombucha I used to see if I can double up on scoby power. It's not anywhere near as voluminous as the one in this video (or any others on this channel) and I don't want to try brewing with it, have it grow mould and then have to start again.

I would taste the brew & see if it tastes like kombucha! You can also test the ph with inexpensive test strips. Kombucha ph should be under 4 or 3.5, as low as 2.5, per your preferred flavor. You can use this as starter tea for next batch

Hi there, I was making kombucha regularly about 2 years ago then stopped due to time constraints, unfortunately I unknowingly stored my scobys in a glass jar with the cover on in the fridge for about 2 years 🙈...about 2 months ago I took the scoby hotel out of the fridge and left it on the counter. About a month ago I made a huge batch of sweet tea, divided it into 5 large containers, added a scoby and some kombucha tea to each one, covered with cloth and put into my cupboard. Nothing is happening, no new scobys are growing. Can I give the unused scobys a sugar bath to revive them, or what do you think? I'm not finding this info anywhere online. Also if yes, HOW do I do a sugar bath? Thanks! Love your videos, very informative 🥰

How did it go afterwards? Perhaps your old scoby was just too old and no longer active? Or did it eventually brew new kombucha after a while?

If you or someone could advise me on this scenario, that'd be awesome. I pulled out a bottle of old white wine vinegar today saw something that looks like several small scobies. First of all, is that possible and second, how can I possibly make kombucha out of it? Thank you!
@marina_m114 жыл бұрын
You have vinegar scobies! You can actually make vinegar with that, it is called The Mother. It’s a different type of colony of bacteria & yeast $ will not make kombucha. Try making natural homemade vinegar! Lots of great recipes on YT. (I like Mary’s Nest, Glen and Friends, etc)

What about dehydrated scoby?
@YouBrewKombucha4 жыл бұрын
I don't recommend using dehydrated SCOBYs because they're incredibly unreliable and very prone to developing mold. If you want to purchase a SCOBY, you can find my recommendations on how to find a good quality one here :) www.youbrewkombucha.com/how-to-get-a-scoby

I made kombucha and the new thin pellicle that grew at the top of my jar had a couple of mould dots. It seemed such a shame to waste the whole batch down the sink and i was curious to see how much really it has contaminated the brew. So i rubbed the mould dots off with my thumb very easily and stored the new pellicle in a separate jar along with some scoby tea, as well as the other old pellicle in another jar with some tea. Both scobies seem fine and mould free, a week has passed. Would u recommend me still to throw away it all? Or can it be saved?
@spacebreathwork Жыл бұрын
What colour was the "mould"? I ask because when a new SCOBY first forms, white dots are the actual formation of the scoby mat and not mould. If it was dry looking, or colourful (blue or green) then it was mould and you should throw out the entire batch and the SCOBY and start again.

Go for it! It might be very concentrated but as long as it’s not moldy, black or dry it should be okay.
