Could you show this with a reactive dog so we can see the technique 1st hand with the dog who is reacting at another dog. it's made to look very easy with a well trained motivated dog but in the situation when your dog is starting or reacting you have to work really hard to get their attention back on you & many wont show interest in the food. Thanks

This is why you train it at home first to build the value into the action and also to build muscle memory for both you and your dog. It takes time, but it definitely works. Start in your house until you and your dog are totally comfortable with it, and then progress to training it in different environments gradually increasing in difficulty. Hope this helps 😊

I recommend everyone to play this game, it's an amazing tool and has got us out of problem situations so often. I would recommend you play this a lot at home first so that your dog really enjoys the game and then play it lots when you are on your walks. Then when you need to use it your dog will be very happy and comfortable moving away from a distraction/problem. Seriously powerful stuff! Thank you xx

What about if you walk with a stick? My boy has become much better recently but I am always on the lookout for different methods to get his attention. However my biggest downfall is that I walk with a stick. If we are training at home or in one place so I can put the stick to one side, it's fine. But if we are out walking I'm not going to have time to ditch the stick so I can do this. I walk with my dog on my left, and the stick in my right hand side. I use a harness and either a long line or double end lead so I can attach one end to his collar if necessary (I'm struggling to find a two point harness that fits him, but he's only 9 months old so not fully grown yet).My stick is on a wrist strap, and I have become quite adept at dropping it so it hangs off my wrist if it needs to but that leaves me stationary, and I need that hand to get the treats out of my pocket/treat bag, as I cannot carry treats and a lead and a stick. I need to grow an extra arm!!!

@absoluteDogsofficial Жыл бұрын
Hi Jay! 👋 Great question! The double-ended leash helps to minimise pulling and gives you better control of your dog when walking. The double-ended leash also prevents additional pressure from being applied to one spot as well as helping with your dog's natural posture. 😊 Hope this helps! 🐾

In the video they say sliding the hand down the lead is a signal for changing directions, so I'm wondering if another signal could be trained in using a similar game... the trick is making it something they'll notice when they're focused on a trigger

A lot of the games involve using their normal daily food allowance but my dog will eat dry food reluctantly but is not motivated to do anything for it. The games seem to use a lot so that many treats seems too much. Any ideas?
@jaggedone8474

You can reduce the amount you are feeding your dog (breakfast and dinner) by the amount of treats you are rewarding your dog with. You can also use some of the dogs breakfast or dinner as a training treat. The better and higher value the treat, the more your dog will enjoy learning.
@samiam3799

@@jaggedone8474 the problem I’m having with this is the same as the person above. My dog only eats one meal a day and sometimes he is really not that fussed about that. The whole ditch the bowel thing doesn’t work as he just won’t eat it at all if it’s on the floor and if I try to use it for games, he thinks I’m taking the absolute piss 😂 He would quite happily eat training treats all day, but obviously there is no nutritional value in these really, so reducing the amount of real food that he eats to encompass the treats is going to put his health in jeopardy. It’s all very frustrating😢
@jaggedone8474
@jaggedone8474 2 жыл бұрын
@@samiam3799 A couple of suggestions: if your dog is not truly enjoying his food perhaps you might wish to try another brand of food. You can also add small bits of vegetables, fruits, poultry or meat to his meal. Another thing you can do is to enhance his food (and/or treats). Get some dehydrated liver treats and crush it into a powder. Take a cup of his dried food, sprinkle with about one generous tablespoon of the liver powder and add about one and a bit tablespoon of water. Mix all this together and spread out in a single layer and allow this to dry. He should be attracted by the smell and taste of the liver. Other treat suggestions are small cubes of cheese, hotdogs, chicken, ham, etc.

@@samiam3799 I suggest you are feeding your dog waaay too much. Don’t feed him for 24-48 hours and then see if he’s still not interested in food. What “treats” are you using? Human grade roast chicken or steak has plenty of nutritional value and is also a high value reward he’s almost certain to want to work for. Treats should be very small - the size of a pea regardless of the size of your dog. Half a chicken breast is plenty for a long training session

We would always recommend training the dogs alone at first to gain the initial training. Train one of your dogs the skill first and then train the other dogs the skill independently and as soon as all the dogs are looking accomplished and more skilled at the behaviours then you can start to combine the training sessions!

Great video but doesn't help with my dog's issue. He lo es to play and plays very well in the dog park UNTIL someone throws another ball. Sam then leaves our play and is way more interested in their ball usually the first dog to get their ball. It the other owner doesn't care and keeps throwing his ball, knowing full well Sam will get it IO struggle getting Sam's attention back. He tends to even move away from me if he knows I'll take him away. He is amazingly smart and so playful at home. I've switched out to a different ball when we go to the park but that doesn't even help.

This is a great game to play when you or your dog sees this dog in the distance. Start playing the game BEFORE the other dog is so close to you that you are trapped. If we are proactive and scan our environment, we can always move up a driveway, across a street, down an alley, or even ask the other dog owner to hold up so you can safely move out of the way

Hey there! Thanks for commenting! We would really love to help you with your dog training struggles. We've seen many dogs with similar struggles being helped with the power of games and I've no doubt we can help you too 💜 The first thing I would look at is his 'bucket' which is the things paying into the stress bucket throughout the day (it can be good or bad things) Too much excitement/worry can make the bucket overflow and lead to the behaviours you are experiencing. The good news is you can grow the bucket to help him cope with daily life and control these bucket overfills - plus you can help him empty the bucket so he can make better choices when in a calmer state - sounds wonderful doesn't it! 🐾 Give this free eBook a read as there are some little changes you can make that will make a huge difference absolute-dogs.com/blogs/free-resources/calm We suggest checking out this other video on how to stop your dog from jumping up ⬇️kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipani2WDZq9mprc To help with the over-excitement and jumping up on walks, we also suggest checking our 10 days to Stop Jumping course! HI Merran, Thank you for your comment! One of the most valuable components of the A to B games is that we are creating distance . Showing your dog their is value in turning away and assisting them in achieving that relief they're seeking in scary moments is what builds Optimism and Disengagement. When they have permission to turn away they become less worried about the triggers presence. There are a ton of variations we can do such as Rewind, Disengagment Pattern, Orientation Marker, and the Check Me Out Circle, to name a few 😊

Honestly, then they are not ready to be completely off leash, a long line (20 ft. lead) or having them drag their regular lead would be best. You can also move closer to them and see if you can redirect them to go somewhere else, possibly chase a ball, stick or another toy instead.
