A sales tactics video would be great, especially for people like me who are newer to trying to buy collections

I’ve been able to offset the cost of overpaying by buying up and reselling some recent spec books. Of course, I do it as quickly as possible, since those values tend to go down pretty quickly.

Patience and discipline for dealers especially. Sometimes not buying a collection for a long time makes dealers jump needlessly at any collections that’s for sale. Patience and discipline.

I got about 25 short boxes of non key comics in storage. I'm working on bagging an boarding them all then organizing DC , marvel, indie. Then alpha tizing. Then by num. Phew after all this work I'm chg extra . More than ten cents. 50 ct per comic high low 25 cent per comic . Do u think that would be a good idea. Do u think I would have takers

I’ve heard you mention on bad buys that it forces you to slab. What’s the success rate of recouping money after that?
@MintHunterComics10 ай бұрын
Fairly high. I can only think of one purchase in which I overpaid, where I had to go the slabbing route only for them to get disappointing grades (which left me even MORE in the hole.) usually it helps me recoup money after a bad buy!

@robertdeveau744510 ай бұрын
If the book is at least $80 graded, or even more, you have to make sure graded copies are selling regularly at that price hassle-free, otherwise you could be spending another $30 to $40 now and not selling it for months or more, in which case you will have lost more money just due to inflation or opportunity cost. This only applies to dealers or flippers. And if your selling platform has fees, take that into account.
@backroom1210 ай бұрын
Nope , if you pay too much for a book , you chalk it up as a loss and move on . We all have overpaid at some point . It’s just money . You can make more .

James, I think it would be helpful if you gave your definition of "overpaid." That term for a reseller is much different than for the average collector.

You mean to tell me that every comic you have at the antique store is a banger? I ask because I know at my antique/thrift shop, I have good stuff and it is mixed with cannon fodder that is tough to get rid of. But I reason that while you are there grabbing a more expensive book, you'll trudge through my boxes and see something for a dollar and you'll pick up impulse buys and I will push out the junk little by little. I am about to buy a small lot of 100 books, mostly because my son wants one of the books and also because there is some silver age in there. I am sure the grades are mid at best, and I will be lucky to get my money back out of it....But the main impetus for doing this is because I want to have those Silver Age books to throw up on my wall (I only have one table of books with a shelving display behind it). Then at least there is new stock coming in. If you don't freshen up the stock, people will come back once or twice, realize it's the same books again, and then not come back. Sometimes the goal is to feed the regulars so they come back to see whatever else you find and put out to buy. Food for thought anyway.

My antique shop is actually mostly $1 books and for those trying to complete runs. Yes I have plenty of keys and wall books but actually my best sellers are the dollar bins!
@eblanco760510 ай бұрын
@@MintHunterComics in your experience, if you have a complete series, is it better to part out or sell as a full run? Assuming there aren't a lot of keys in the series?
@matthewinman437610 ай бұрын
@@eblanco7605 I can't speak for James, but I also sell books on Ebay and I noticed that if you give someone a complete series/story, it will sell better than just grabbing a bunch of random books and selling them as a lot. In the last few months I have sold off sets of Darkhold : Pages From the Book of Sins and Hellstorm, and multiple sets of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and DC Challenge. People like complete sets. On the flip side, I used to try and sell all my comics for $2 apiece, but the problem I had was that if you don't show the people you are selling to that you see value in these books then neither will they. I switched it up after a few months and added more value books and priced everything per guide and sell it all for 50% off. Now my sales have topped $300 a month. Not a wage to live on, but I do this for the love of my hobby.

Would these tips apply to graded books as well? If not, could you maybe make a video talking about what to do if you overpay for a graded book?
@MintHunterComics10 ай бұрын
Sadly no - if you overpay on slabs you're usually screwed - especially in this market
@diegobelaunde496510 ай бұрын
@@MintHunterComics Do you believe signed graded slabs are a good investment in the long run? For example, I have an ASM 39 signed by Willem Dafoe and a Daredevil 183 signed by Jon Bernthal and Charlie Cox. I don’t think I overpayed for them, but I believe I’ll have to hold on to them for a while to get a decent return on them. What do you think?

You know, if you take the books and separate them by dollar value doesn’t that diminish the idea of making sets? Why not try to sell them by same title? Wolverine, Batman, Batman, Alpha flight, anyway you do it if you put them together as a lot wouldn’t that sell quicker?
