What to do with root suckers

Consider mulching a six foot circle around your trees. They would grow much faster.

Is a root sucker a tree that comes up by a full grown tree? I have 2 Full grown trees beside each other. There's little trees that pop up,under or around them. I've tried digging the little ones up, at various heights,usually pretty small, and transplant them.. But I haven't had any success in getting them to stay alive. I've watched a few videos on transplanting paw-paws, & somewhere(might have been your video) they said you must go kinda deep on the root, and if I understood correctly, the root from the new tree is actually attached to the root of the full grown tree. I thought they said you want to make sure to get part of the big root. I believe the big root is called a tap root. I thought I did get a small part of the big root, but I must not have. As you can tell, I'm very new to growing trees or anything else with trees to be honest. I grew up in Eastern KY, where we had Paw Paw trees all around. I now live in Sandusky Ohio, and I was surprised to see the 2 trees out back, when I bought this place. My neighbors & friends didn't even know what a Paw Paw was. My Aunt(grew up in KY) lives near me, and she's wanting a couple of my paw-paw trees. I had a couple peach trees by the paw-paws, & I dug up 2 little ones & transplanted them at her house. To my surprise, they are still growing good!-That was 2 yrs. Ago. I'm sorry to write a book in your comment section. So What I need to know is, If you DONT have a video showing how to transplant a little Paw Paw tree, can you please explain to me--in simple terms--,remember I'm a green horn here, how I can transplant the little ones? I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't know if you remember, but I left a comment on one of your previous videos,& I think I ask how to then, and you replied that you needed to do a video on THAT, & You MIGHT do a video on it next. I should have browsed your other videos before leaving this comment. I sometimes do things backwards.😄Thank You for Your time! And Thanks for all the videos you make!!👍

I have some rootsuckers that are extremely close to the main pawpaw tree maybe a inch or two. I would love to transplant it but I am worried because of how close they are.

That in my opinion is too close to the tree to attempt. It could actually cause unwanted damage to the parent. However, if the parent is a grafted tree I would cut the rootsuckers rootsucker off at ground level. If not grafted I would leave them there for the root system of the tree.
