Robertie said to always do what's most difficult first, which here is jumping a prime. That's what led me to the correct play.

Nice format, Marc! I got an idea for these quiz videos: what if you would show us (in the end of video) the position analysis (printed picture or simply on the screen) - i mean with winning chances after possible moves (or PR values for them)?

The correct move also implements a principle Mark has discussed before: which is if you're ahead, you should advance your checkers home instead of blocking - if those are your two options.

Without looking at the answers and before Marc giving the solution I think i'll jump out. If opp misses then i am in the driving seat to victory !

Thanks for the video, Marc. I made the wrong move here. Focused too much on the 5 prime without thinking of escaping first.

Ah, I made the wrong play. I thought that having the 5 prime increased enough bad rolls for the opponent to justify leaving a man back. Seemed so risk-free. But I get it now, and that was a really good explanation. Nice puzzle!

from galore forum i learn a pretty valueble concept - IF you really didnt sure which move is better and IF you do a right move this is calls a MIND FLIP move. and we need to learn them also as a mistakes cuz THIS time we maybe do the right move but next time we choose(flip!) other dicision. matter is not to do the right move but have a knowledge and tactical sense of position for better move. this is not the same as randomly do the right move.

I'm playing 13/7 23/22 (stepping up and covering, if I got those numbers wrong). Extending a prime against 3 checkers seems too powerful to pass up, to me.

It is a difficult choice but surely either way would have similar endings because it's all about the roll of the dice. I would go with the block because the opponent has 3 in your home with a much lower percent of getting out 🤔 Then with the other two free there is room for them to be moved while waiting for that six to get out of the opponents territory 👍✨ Excellent vids as always, cheers to you 🤟🎶

I'm going to play 23/16. I'm ahead in the pip count, and there's 12 checkers on my side of the board. It's too late to build.

Great lesson but surprised you didn’t find the right play and surprised it’s as close as it is at DMP. Should be clear when you see we will control the whole outfield with full freedom when missed. The idea is we aren’t priming. We’re racing. After the roll we’re up 34 pips and huge favorites when they miss the shot. Pay now.

12/18 to block the 3 checkers in my home and increase my prime. 2/3 to have a six for escape.

So difficult. I went with the wrong play. I thought getting hit and potentially ending up on the 24 or 23 or worse, having the 2nd blot picked up would be too big. Theres so many factors at play, it's difficult because I was not sure which prime I'd rather be left on the edge of. I've been listening to too much of Phil Simborg "always remember AND, don't give your opponent AND plays" (hitting and escaping in this case).

Off topic: I’ve heard many say the best sound in the world is the rain hitting the roof of the house. They’re all wrong. Best sound in the world is the dice shuffling in the dice cups. Or the dice hitting the surface. Or the checkers hitting the wooden frame. I can’t decide, but they all beat the rainy sound.

Actually, even better than checkers hitting the wooden frame, is the sound of P40 board metallic checkers hitting the metallic frame. Look it up here on YT.

I would make the 5 prime but I’m not sure whether we should touch our blot in our opp home board… yeah I’ll let it stay and opp will crunch his prime. So 13/7 16/15

Its too easy to just say its a freeroll to jump the prime, the resulting position when getting hit is so so much worse, than if they jump our 5 prime. If you change to position for blue to have both spare checkers on the 4 point - then the plays are more or less equal. If you put one of the spare checkers back on the anchor, its a clear play to make the 5 prime. Hence a lot of the reason for orange to jump out is the blitz value of blue's position - blitz to escape. You also just focused on the 6s for opponent being bad, but in fact its only really 66, 62 and 61 of the 6s which are bad for us. 21 is better than all the other 6s, and 64 doesnt gain equity for them.

No matter what that back 3 pip comes out ! The only threats are double 5's, 6's & or 5/6 Opponent has 3 pips trapped by the time he moves 2 pips out i will have made my 5 prime & begin pounding the crap out of his last pip or at least a block formation on 14,15 something ! & either hope he needs to leave his last pip in or he doesn't suck out & roll alot of doubles
