Time is something all worlds have but just like anything in worldbuilding it can be more then just background dressing. Today I yap about three fictional worlds and how their use of time helps or hinders the stories they want to tell.

if you like elden ring's worldbuilding, you might also like disco elysium's! here's a quote from the tigsource thread (created prior to its launch) about the game: "It’s non-static as you said. Fantasy settings usually occupy a single period of history, thus forever remaining in a kind of eternal stasis (middle-ages, near-future, cyberpunk, China, you-name-it). Ours has actual six thousand years of history: it spans from its own version of the early Bronze Age (Perikarnassian period) to the early Middle Ages (Franconigerian period), to the Renaissance (Dolorian period), right up to a decade we call “The Seventies”. It’s a world like ours, one that has evolved culturally and technologically over widely varied periods of time. No Truce With the Furies takes place in the modernity of this world." note: no truce with the furies is a name that disco elysium had prior to launch

Hollow Knight is popular for similar reasons-there is not only an ancient civilization that preexists the pale king’s kingdom, which itself has an era of rise and an era of decay, but all of these have physical archeological evidence in the world you explore.

My world is just 1027 years old, old enough for most long lived species to already be dead when born back then, but just enough time so that their descendants might remember. Also my gods are rather active in helping their chosen kind, explaining the state of vastly different technology between countries
