Lovely video, I'm so happy that not only you like Vietnamese food, you also looked into the history and geography to understand why the food is this way. Btw, the food you introduced are street food, not what Vietnamese eat everyday as family meals. A normal family meal would consist of rice, a meat dish, a vegetable dish, and a soup. I think it's a pity that travelers usually don't get to try a normal family meal because it's just as good as our famous street food.

Ah yes you are totally right! I actually did each a lot of home style Vietnamese food in Hue, Da Nang and Saigon, just not Hanoi. I have footage from that and i definitely plan to share that :) There was sooo much more history I wanted to share but didn’t want to bog the video down too much 😅

This was a joy to watch! I'm always looking for interesting videos and your tips of history with vlog-esque scenes is the perfect kind of content for me, at least. It's so rare to find a sincere and simple tour diary with genuine expressions of interest and amusement for the culture you're in. Keep up with the great job, Rachel! Hugs from a brazilian girl dreaming to go overseas!

Welcome to Vietnam 🫰✌️🇻🇳😃 Restaurants, pharmacies and grocery stores run by professional and friendly people with reasonable prices are everywhere on the streets of Vietnam. Visitors do not have to worry about hunger or illness. This is very difficult to establish a complete system in other countries for tourism. Thanks for share.

Phở Thìn: There's actually TWO different "brands" of Thìn because there was two gentlemen that open up shop for it. One was in 1955 the other in the 1970s. You went with the brand from the 70s and they are famous for stir fried beef Phở. The senior Thìn don't have that style at all. Bún Chả: Some place sell crab pring roll with the dish as well. Its pretty expensive with each "nem" costing as much as the dish itself since crab meat is expensive. Bánh cuốn: Pretty legit place, if it was the place on Hàng Than then I've eaten at that place for over 20 years now. Ngõ Đồng Xuân is da bomb. You are legit for going there. Just go front to back in that alley and you get a pretty good feel of what the city have to offer. Bánh dày: You should try the beef meat patty one "giò bò". Personal favorite of mine since giò lụa is less flavorful and spiced than giò bò. Bánh giò: My favorite spot is on Thụy Khuê, their special is a full meal in of itself. Bún đậu and nem chua: Pretty good. Nem chua rán is da bomb though you should try it. Cháo sườn is great. There's a spot that I like but too bad the lady that sells it passed due to COVID and her daughter can't keep up with what mom did. Eaten there since I was a baby. Bánh đúc: no comment since I don't eat it much The chè shop you go to near Chợ Gạo used to be an internet cafe back in the day. I spent more time in there and suffers from secondary smoking there more than I can admit. Comments from a local for the algorithm. Thank you for making the video

Came back from the video you sent yourself and I have to say that when youtube algorithm took me to your video, I just kept watching and didn’t pay attention at how many subscribers and videos you got. I think the video quality is really good and you’re doing well, so keep on producing new videos!

Gostei do vídeo.

Do they give fork? I'm going to Vietnam soon and my biggest worry is eating with chopsticks, since most of the places I've seen only give chopsticks. I don't know how to eat with chopsticks. Is it disrespectful to carry your own fork?

It's well made and edited. But there are some minor wrong details that you got. "Bánh" does refer to anything baked or bread like, and it still also means dessert items like cakes or cookies. "Chè" only means those sweet soup/toppings you got and not any other desserts
@rachcastellinoАй бұрын
Yes! I should’ve said “not necessarily” meaning sweet cakes. That was my mistake. Didn’t realize that about che! Thank you :)
