Grocery store poke is good. I get them all the time, I guess not the old poke at the store. Grocery store poke Fish is from Suisan. By local.

Hilo is such a nice place all the big trees and the ocean. The town looked like a mid to small town vibe. Is it only nice to visit or do you think it's a place to stay.

if you're into the slow town vibe, then it's a very nice place - i personally need more stimulation when i travel or live somewhere tho but the island vibe was very strong there haha

Lots of places you missed. Kuhio Grill, Koji's, Paul's, Cafe 100, K's Drive Inn, Moe's, Ken's (open 24 hr), Don's, Miyo's and many others. You could have spent a week and not touched all of the great places to eat.

I liked the Shoyu Chicken at Cafe 100. Wish I had gone to Kuhio Grill and Miyo’s. And Suisan. And Two Ladies! Only had time for two meals in Hilo. My other was at Hawaiian Style Cafe. Had the nice special with Hawaiian food (squid Luau, poke, lomi salmon, chicken long rice….)

Interesting. Naung Mai, Pineapples, Ebisuya, Kanpai are all within 5 blocks of the farmer's market and open late in Hilo. Kanpai has way better Ramen than tonkotsu :)

I would love to have visited Oahu to compare food, but I wanted to try new things in Hilo! I do feel like Maui was a bit more expensive tho but that is the tourist destination

It's not when compared to the other islands and Kona side. Wholesale and labor prices have gone up
